Former Eagle Tony Sanchez was having a great first season in the minors until Tuesday when a stray pitch broke his jaw. He will have surgery and is out indefinitely. He should fully recover...let's just hope the bad luck surrounding the Pirates doesn't trickle down to their prospects.

NC State hired Maryland's AD to run their athletic department. I don't feel strongly one way or the other about Yow, but wonder if she'll pressure TOB to finally win.

Hockey beats Northeastern and other links

Sunday was a good day for hockey. The US and Canada played a classic in Vancouver and BC smashed Northeastern in Boston. Brian Gibbons led the way with a hat trick.

I assume most people read the Globe and Herald's coverage of the UNC game, but this ESPNBoston story might have been overlooked.

The baseball team had a nice weekend in New Orleans, but couldn't close out the sweep. Former Eagle Tony Sanchez is adjusting to his first big league camp.

Tony Sanchez is a great prospect, but it looks like his willingness to sign quickly and play in Pittsburgh factored into their selection. The Pirates had nothing but great things to say about Tony.

I don't think HD realizes that Central Michigan will be a tough game.

More on Shinskie from the Globe and his hometown paper. After my initial giddiness, I've come back down to earth about Shinskie. I don't know if he is the answer, but I do think one of our QBs will be good enough to get us to the postseason.

Congrats to Tony Sanchez. Selected by the Pirates fourth overall, Sanchez is now the highest pick in BC's history. After all the controversy about overuse and misuse, BC's hero from Austin Mike Belfiore was selected 45th overall to Arizona.

Dr. Saturday found one of Shinskie's old baseball cards.

HD got some quotes from Shinskie and his high school coach. Needless to say, the coach is effusive in his praise and Shinskie as a recruit. He also echoes many of the things we've all been saying about an older player -- (better work ethic and physical maturity). The unsung hero in this process is Tight Ends coach Dave Brock. It was his relationship and network that put Shinskie on BC's radar.

UConn fans are still clamoring for a game against BC. As long as Gene is around, we can all forget it.

After the impressive showing against Florida State, the ACC named BC's Tony Sanchez the player of the week. Sanchez leads the ACC this season in hits with 25.

The ACC Media named Florida State's Leonard Hamilton the ACC Coach of the Year. Al finished second. It would have been nice to see him recognized, but I don't think Al cares much about those awards. Skinner finishing so far behind as the runner up is a sign that the media is reaching the point where they take Al's success for granted. How else can you explain only 10 first place votes for a coach who won 9 league games in spite of preseason predictions of an 11th place finish.

Here is the the first of many predictions that BC will finish at the bottom of the Atlantic next season. Will the media ever learn? We should have a very good D and enough talent on offense to compete. Speaking of the Atlantic, the BCI guys debated the rumored division shuffle. My take: why bother? Seriously. If you keep moving things in order for things to make sense or build drama and rivalries, your timing will always be off. You can't force things. Parity and the ebb and flows of a program will keep things unpredictable. My suggestion is keep the divisions as is and let the rivalries build over time. Plus, I don't want to lose Clemson from the schedule!

HD wrote a nice article on the OLine. These guys will carry the team next year. I also eagerly await hearing what Devine has to say about his new players and what changes he plans to make.
