Bell honored and other links

These are mostly from earlier in the week, but I didn't have time to comment on them all here.

I always get a chuckle out of the awkward forced history required by our conference shift. This year at the ACC Tournament, the Conference will name Troy Bell and "ACC Legend" despite never playing in the conference. Troy certainly deserves to be recognized and there is no way the Big East will ever do it. In the end it is just another reason to bring a former player closer to the program. That's a good thing.

Snow Junior College named former Eagle Paul Peterson their new head coach. I am very happy for Paul and his success, although I wish his career path had him headed towards BC. Aside from a GA year under TOB at NC State, all of his professional experience has been out West. And the western FCS and JUCO ranks are very different from BC's niche. Hopefully he leverages success at Snow into either a head job at a four year school or as a coordinator in a Power 5.

Here is a link to Brent Musberger and Doug Flutie discussing the famous Hail Mary. He thinks it was the most special of his career.

Recruiting news and other links

My gut tells me that our chances with Hayden Rettig really depend on how BC does this season. If we show that we've turned the corner and can run a dynamic offense, then maybe he'll want to join his brother at the Heights. Maryland DE prospect has BC interested, but he hasn't visited campus yet. Ricky Town is 2015 prospect and already receiving interest from major programs. Wyoming is not a usual stop on our recruiting searches, but BC has offered DE prospect Donnie White Jr.

South Jersey is proud of Johnny Gaudreau.

Mike Mayock praised Kuechly's potential in the Globe and in SI.com.

Not BC-related, but here is a great read on how some coaches have been hired. I think there is a happy medium between a committee and one man calling the shots. As we've seen there can be mixed results if there is no one questioning one-man show.

Catching up with Troy Bell.

Underappreciated: Troy Bell

This article on the difficulty of averaging more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game in college included a little factoid about former Eagle Troy Bell:
Troy Bell is the only player from any of the Big Six conferences to average 20-plus points in three seasons since 1999. Bell averaged 20.4 in 2000-01, 21.6 in 2001-02 and 25.2 in 2002-03.

With all that has happened since he left (Smith, Dudley, the ACC move) I feel like many BC fans have already lost perspective on how good Troy Bell was. Little nuggets like this serve as nice reminders.
