What are the experts saying about BC's bubble?

It is probably premature, but what the heck? The bracketologists are listing BC, so we might as well track their thoughts.

Fox Sports' Howie Schwab has BC as a 10 seed.

Bracketville has us in the First Four. CBS hasn't updated in the new year, but had us in the First Four also.

Last week ESPN had us as 12 seed.

I had hoped that we wouldn't be so bubblicious by now but the pundits still are not totally sold on BC. The Wake win didn't mean much, which means Thursday's game probably won't mean much either. In their Tuesday recap (based on Monday's results) Bracketology 101 has BC last four in. Lunardi has us as the last four in.

This is SI's take on the ACC Spring. Everyone is focused on Rogers and rightfully so. I don't think Rogers' changes will be drastic schematically. I think it will be more about can he get Rettig to mature and get the offense to execute better.

Even though Lunardi is on the bandwagon, I am more encouraged that the more accurate Bracketology 101 has BC in the Tournament. Those guys have BC among the last four in and among the "First Four" games. The cynic in me says that it will be a certainty that BC is included in the first "First Four." Because the "First Four" is like being in the Tournament but not really.

What do all the Bracketologists think of BC?

ESPN's Joe Lunardi gets all the attention but there is now a growing army of bracketologists speculating on who will make the big dance. According to all of them, BC is in. The consensus is that we are an 8 or a 9 seed.

Our RPI remains steady at 47.

Basketball team has work to do

The loss to Miami was a setback. However, it is what other teams did over the weekend that has me worried. Many major conference bubble teams helped themselves and Maryland's upset of UNC took off a bit of the luster from our earlier win at Chapel Hill.

He hasn't updated his online version yet, but last night Lunardi said BC was one of his last four in. Our RPI slipped to 54. The Bracketology 101 crew remains confident that BC will get in and has our Eagles as a 9 seed.

The bracket forecasters appreciated the Duke win. BC is off the bubble but still not a great seed. Here are the rundowns.

-- ESPN has BC as a 11 seed.

-- Bracketology 101 thinks BC is an 8 seed.

-- Hoops Report has BC as a 9.

I don't know how high BC can move up. If they hit a roll and win the ACC Tourney, it would probably earn a 4. Split the final few games and win 1 ACC tourney game and it probably means an 8 or 9. Lose out and the bubble comes back.

The win streak was just what the hoops team needed.

-- Bracketology 101 is not as optimistic. They slotted BC for an 11 seed.

Sleeper, Bubble team or NIT?

Expectations were low for the basketball team. Preseason, we were picked anywhere from 8th to 11th in the ACC. A good start, followed by a sloppy holiday schedule and concluded with two ugly non-conference losses has further muddled the outlook. How good is this team? I don't know. The ACC slate will tell us that. What this team needs to accomplish to continue our current tournament run is a little more clear.

Despite what ESPN says, if the season ended today we would not be invited to the Big Dance. In fact the Robert Morris loss and the Kansas blowout will stay with us long past this week. Unless we have a winning ACC record, those two games will have us on the bubble.

If we have a winning ACC conference record...we're in. No question. The conference is not at its best, but this wouldn't be debatable.

If we go 8-8 in the ACC...we are probably in. We will be called a bubble team, but since the ACC expanded with Florida State, every only one ACC team with a 8-8 conference record or better has not been invited to the tournament.

If we go 7-9...I think we are out. Robert Morris comes back to haunt.

If we go 5-11...that would leave us at 15-15. We are not even going to the NIT.

I still think 7 wins is possible. First the team needs to get out of its funk. A strong showing against Wake this weekend would be refreshing.
