Can BC win a national championship?
ESPN thinks the pieces are there: friendly schedule, returning talent, luck. This is a classic ESPN filler article but I like the spirit of it all. 2007 though should be a lesson to us all. If we remain undefeated we will climb in the rankings. However, 2007 was also rare in that so many heavy weights dropped games early, clearing any logjams. If BC were to go undefeated, we would need some help getting into the national championship game. An extra win from the ACC Championship game would help our BCS standings and the Herzy story would get some humans to vote. We would also need the traditional powers to lose a game or two. I am not buying my plane tickets yet, but this is a reminder that we shouldn't lower expectations. We are a better team than the team our staff is poor mouthing in the press (TOB style).
Here is Part II of BC Draft's interview with Weber State's coach.
Tough break for Jamie Silva. Let's hope he makes a full comeback next year.
Virginia Tech fans respect our team.

As far as uniform stuff goes, anyone notice we have black pants for practices now? I've been away since we started pads & contact.

That is just horrific news about Silva. One of my all-time favorite BC players from the Oughts.
Don't see anyway that black is incorporated into the color scheme. It's never been there and my guess is it's just part of the practice gear they sent to the team for spring ball before everything got customized for the season. I'm not saying this to talk out of my as$ either, a) because it makes sense and b) it's exactly what's going on at UCF right now, where they're still deciding on uniform schemes so for this season they're basically practicing and playing in whatever Nike has scrapped together that resembles a uniform for them..
Let's not get hurt in the first two games and get well-prepared for VT. They blew us out last year. Let's hope we can close the gap or somehow even win the game.
National Championship? Come on, we have to crawl before we can walk.
Having said that - Go BC - one game at a time, team!
Lighten up Krack. Nobody really thinks we are "Goin' to the 'Ship."
But everybody does think we are heading in the right direction (except for a few negative nancys, absent of late, but who will appear on this blog before long)!
Exactly, I doubt anyone has a realistic thought that we're going to the NC this year (although us optimists definitely have the thought on the list of preseason football daydreams) but to see us on the list and to see the solid core of players on both sides of the ball that will be here for a few years is definitely encouraging for the future.
I get my hopes up every year (although Matty Ice's senior year they were the highest, GODDAMN florida state). I truly think being a BC fan is bad for my health - it feels like we are always so close to greatness or crap. It's exhausting rooting for us.
It's so true Galvin. I'll never forget Florida State either, although it always (sort of) helps to remember that we lost to Maryland the week after, which really put the nail in the coffin.
I've approached every year expecting the national championship, this one's no different!
I'm so ready for this season to start. If we get halfway decent play out of our QB, it could be a memorable one - even with Weber State.
I'm "up" Dustbowl - and truly excited. I like to sneak up on the national scene and fly under the radar for awhile.
If we can beat Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and NC State in Raleigh (they are sick of losing to us and are out for revenge) - well then the collective BC heart rate will be up going into Tallahassee - I'll even go to that one. If we could ever go 6 and 0, BC fans everywhere will be going nuts. Can you imagine what the atmosphere would be for the Clemson game, assuming we beat Maryland under this scenario? Yes, I can dream with the best of us.
I really believe that offensively, our receivers can get open. Will our QB be able to get the ball to them? - that's the main question.
We need to take the load off Montel, so he can break even bigger ones :-)
Let's go, Coach Tranquil - open up the playbook and let's go for a fun ride.
You are unfortunately right Walter. Even more unfortunately, I was at that Maryland game with my little brother. He was a freshman at Maryland at the time. Horrible memories (for my brother too, he's smaller than I am so he took a beating accordingly).
all this talk about the new receivers... but let's not forget montel in the passing game. i really think under a good screen he could just go crazy in the open field.
