Late Christmas present from Spaz

This rumor has been floating around for a while, but tonight it is official: Albert Louis-Jean is coming to BC. This is big for a lot of reasons. It keeps a top Massachusetts prospect home. It gives us a potential difference maker in our thinning defensive secondary. It also shows that Spaz and Company can close on a guy who was a Miami commit. ALJ decommitted when the Canes fired Randy Shannon, but BC still had to sell him on the program and on the advantages of playing close to home.

He is expected to enroll early and will hopefully make an impact in 2011. Let's hope this is a sign that BC is going to close their recruiting class with a bang.

There are times where Spaz looks like he's in over his head. Recruiting rankings are often dubious.

In spite of both of those facts, Spaz has been impressive in his two seasons as head recruiter. If we were winning division titles with the recruit rankings that we had most of the ought's (and we improve kids at the same rate), then the future is truly bright. I bet Louis-Jean is starting at boundary corner next year and field after Fletcher graduates...a truly impact pick up!!

I'm a Spaz supporter, especially when it comes to giving him time to building the program. And I'm excited about recruiting, especially with the big name recruits and our standard BC guys. I will say that I'm expecting big things from him next year. Given recruiting trends, I'm hoping for a breakout year. Rettig needs to work on his accuracy and reads; we'll need a better QB than Tranq. I think really it's going to come down to position coaching over the next few years if we're going to make a BCS bowl.

Jim Noel and Jean Louis is a great young foundation for our secondary.

Between Jean-Louis, Pierre-Louis, and Noel, I hope BC continues to build a strong Haitian football tradition(Cherilus is another example). Boston and greater new england has a vibrant and growing Haitian community, it would be to BC's great benefit (on and off the field) to bring the Haitian community closer to our fold.

Per wiki: "There are over 10.5 million Catholics in Haiti - about 80% of the total population.". An unstated reason for BC's Haitian connection

City of Champions.
There's a strong chance Spaz's extension directly led to this signing, after ALJ saw Shannon get canned and Joe Pa get days and days older.

Erik - Word on the street is that PSU is flying down all of Joe Pa's family to Florida for their bowl game. They have never offered to do that, and the whole family has never attended a bowl game together from what I've heard. He may not be coaching next year after all, which could have played into ALJ's decision. I think PSU is gently forcing him out by letting all his assistants interview for other jobs..

I really like that we have a lot of Mass guys starting in the near future. It has to help the local recruiting scene, and these guys will hopefully be able to sell other local guys on the perks of staying at home despite the lure of warmer weather, easier classes, and southern belles

Tranquill "has not decided on whether he will be back for a third year"

This is from a few days ago, but I don't remember anyone mentioning it here.

Great recruiting, BC Coaching Staff.

I wish Albert Louis-Jean all the luck and success at BC. It will be great to see our local stars (Jim Noel, and other Fr may be stepping up next year) in the defensive backfield, behind our strong LB corps.

Nice job, Coach Spaz.

I like the idea of bringing in Haitian recruits. Once again, this is a defensive player. There are big problems on the offensive side of the ball that need to be corrected "pronto". I also note a "sadistic streak" on the part of Spaziani in his treatment of the "drown the puppy" squad of the "short timer" seniors. All of the injuries in practice should "raise some eyebrows". How does Flutie (not beloved by Spaz) tear a hamstring when he isn't even allowed to play? Then when he is opened up on the operating table, there is no tear. What is going on?

Love the signing and the added talent to go with our sudden depth at DB in the 2011 class. Is Spaz planning on converting any of these DBs to WR? WR talent seems like the one glaring deficiency in this class.

This is a great snag!

Good job Spaz and welcome aboard Albert!! This is shaping into the best class we've had in years.

Spaz + Donahue + York = Golden Age for BC athletics

This class is missing WRs but it's mostly due to how our depth is concentrated.

Larmond and Lee still have another 2 years.

Swigert, Coleman, Amidon and Philips all have 3 more.

Any big time receivers looking at that logjam are gonna go somewhere else they can play sooner. Wouldn't be surprised if we pick up a 2 star or something as the class closes.

Any big time receiver should be able to garner playing time over those guys. I find it very hard to believe that the presence of Lee, Swigert and Amidon would be a deterrent to an interested top-flight WR.

I dunno Ry if I'm looking at a team returning 95% of it's receiving yards I might look elsewhere.

Philips and Swigert prove this point. Both had offers from some quality programs but chose BC. I'm guessing it had more to do with our thin depth than it did the prospect of playing with Uncle Dave, Mars or a true feshman. This time last year our best returning receivers were Momah and Flutie so playing time was basically guaranteed.
