Report: BC hires Steve Addazio

SI's Pete Thamel is reporting Temple Coach Steve Addazio has been hired as BC's next coach. I didn't see that one coming. Did anyone?

I will hold my longer post until later and official word comes from BC. Gut reaction is he's a decent, safe hire. I don't see him taking us to the next level, but I think he can reach TOB's level of success.

Think I just canceled my season tickets. Please tell me why I should be excited. Temple sucks.

I probably shouldn't feel disappointed; but I do. We're all to blame for raising false hopes.

There was no way BC would ever spend what was needed.

While his history at Florida is a plus, his most recent season at Temple is hardly encouraging.

Does this mean Montel harris is welcome back on campus?

Please, please tell me this means Kevin Rogers is coming back to BC. That would be so hilarious.

I wanted Diaco. I don't know Addazio well, but not sure I am that excited about him. Feels like a let down. ugh

Kudos to Bates for keeping this hire completely underwraps. Color me impressed.

While it's not a sexy hire, I'm definitely on board with it. Addazio has NC winning pedigree. He knows what it takes to win at a high level.

Welcome to the Heights Steve! (And welcome back Ryan Day and Kevin Rogers?????)

BC going cheap again. Ever to Excel indeed.

For all those questioning Diaco over Addazio, consider this:

We were excited about Diaco because of all the hype surrounding him. Addazio was in his position two years ago. Addazio is more of a definite because:

A. The man has actually won national championships (as opposed to just getting to play for one)

B. He has head coaching experience

A spaz lookalike old man and a bunch of old bc assistants who sucked. we needed to clean house. bc is a joke. you can go to stanford, northwestern, Vanderbilt or even duke now. all superior academically with a bigger commitment to football. duke is investing massively in football and has a great coach. we are bottom of the pile in the acc.

Well, on www.bceagles.com, they've made Addazio's hiring official.

Here is the only analogy I can think of to how I feel. Let's say this guy asks this girl out. She gets all excited because he might take her to the finest steakhouse or for gourmet seafood.

A few days later, he calls and tells her he's taking her to Applebees.

I feel like the girl right now.

It's more like Denny's for me.

Yeah, Temple was 4-7 this year, but it was also their first year jumping from MAC to Big East. Sure Big East is pretty shitty, but it's obviously still better than the MAC; any team jumping up a conference tier is going to struggle the first year.

Certainly less sexy/exciting than Golden/Diaco, but does anyone know who is actually a better coach, other than just based off reputation/heresay?

When I look at Addazio I see solid pedigree under unarguably one of the nations best coaches (Urban), with recruiting connections in the Northeast, South, and Midwest.

Plus he recruited Montel Harris to Temple, so he's not as dumb as Spaz...

I'm willing to give him a chance certainly, and hard to say it is a real bad hire, even if it's not excellent.

This guy was ran out of Florida. They hated him. Run up the middle 3x and punt type offense.

I am underwhelmed, but I have been watching college football for 40 of my 46 years and I have learned that a lot of underwhelming coaches have achieved BCS level success. Here is what I like about him:

Coached with Urban Meyer and won 2 national titles with the Gators. He knows how to win.

Has a solid background in coaching the offensive line. We need to get back to O-line U and he just may be the guy to do it.

Is a New England native and I'm hoping he will defend New England recruiting, something Spaz was a dismal failure at.

I'm guessing Diaco either asked for too much money or backed away when the Wisconsin job came open. I knew there was no chance with Golden. BC cannot afford to pay a competitive wage, pay off Spaz and buyout Golden's contract. Simple math there folks!

Now that I've had the naivety wiped out of my eyes I can't believe that Diaco would prefer Wisconsin and that Rose Bowl and Big 10 pressure to BC. He's clearly a psychopath. Looks like we dodged a bullet there.

How could we not like a guy who's coming to us straight from temple? Oh. Nevermind.

What kind of a stepping stone does a 53 year old look for? (not a trick question)

Keep in mind that Coughlin was considered an underwhelming pick in the early 90's. I am trying not to panic. I really wanted Diaco but there are plenty of coaches who can be successful with the BC job.
