Not everyone shared our excitement about the new live eagle mascot. PETA told Boston Magazine that they don't believe any live animal should ever be used for sporting events. The organization has reached out to BC but have not planned any sort of protest yet.
I hope BC holds firm with this new tradition. Protests are predictable, but as long as a respected organization like Zoo New England handles the bird, I don't think any harm will come to any person or animal.

The next time I care what those loons think will be the first.
Tell them to call Colorado, or any other school that have used live animals for years. The bald eagle is no longer endangered.
If BC backed down I would be upset with Bates. It is an 9 Year Old Eagle 100% maintained by a well respected Zoo. How many other schools have live mascots? Lots. How many are sooner handled by students learning how to take care of animals? Lots. He's doing this the right way... shut up PETA...
totally silly. Bates should not listen.
this also implies that BC has a legitimate home field advantage. it doesn't even get that loud! GET LOST PETA!
