BC churns through Football coaches fast

I think in the whole scheme of College Football, BC is a good job. You live in a great area, there is little pressure and you have specific recruiting niches. But the data makes it look like the football offices have a revolving door. Since 1990, Vanderbilt and Baylor are the only Power 5 schools that have changed their head coach more than BC. Those two schools have made seven changes. BC has made six. I know outsiders don't care, but each one of BC's changes can be explained away. Two were from Coughlin and TOB moving on to new opportunities. Spaz was fired for not winning enough and Jags was fired after a power struggle with Gene. Addazio is obviously still around and relatively safe.

But in the end, I don't think the turnover is holding the program back. As the article mentions, our winning percentage during that time is .550. I don't care if we make another move soon. I just want too see a great coach and have him stay at BC for a long time.

Addazio is relatively safe? After this season, he has 3 years left at about $2.5 million a year. That's a lot of money to eat. OK, last year, we went 7-6 and won a bowl game. Anyone reading this blog knows that record was a lot of smoke and mirrors. We saw 3 absolute blowout losses and padded our record with out of conference patsies. With a more difficult schedule next year, we're probably looking at 4-8 or 5-7 (though the latter could make us bowl-eligible). With a new AD, I would think a record like that would trigger a review. I can't see us being competitive with Clemson, FSU and Louisville.

IS there no BC guy or group of BC guy from 25 good-great years who could step in and do
a better than mediocre job? Hopefully they would have loyalty to BC.
The Basketball picture is obvious Jared , Danya and company.

BCeagle 91, you just described my exact feelings.
Anne Marie, I feel your pain.

@Georgia Eagle: The pain just won't go away. Aspirin doesn't work and I don't drink. We now have a pope who is taking away that measure of support. Maybe the answer is to root for Dabo and his evangelization of football.

Anne Marie, I'd certainly prefer someone with BC ties but I'd be happy with a competent outsider who learns to love the school. We need to get off the graduate transfer merry-go-round and do a better job of developing football and basketball players. And do a better job of retaining the latter.

JBQ, Don't worry. I drink enough for the both of us - especially after a BC football or basketball game.

The ACC is tough. We are competing against programs that have the best coaches, a legacy of high level success and have talent that we cannot procure as consistently(for regional and academic reasons).

If we are a)beating Duke, WF, Virginia, UCONN, NC State and Syracuse b)winning our out of conference games(typically third rate programs) and c)competitive against FSU, Clemson, VT, Louisville, ND at home then I don't complain much.

The problem I have with Dazzler(and the program right now) is that the o-line has not improved. We absolutely need that to be successful against very good teams. The other concern I have going forward is the secondary. Don Brown recruited and "coached up" consistent talent in those positions(we have a good players sporadically but not the NFL level talent that Brown supplied every year) but his players are moving on.

@Georgia Eagle: Well said. Does that mean if BC "rights the ship" that you will stop drinking? Maybe, BC is going through its "Job" from the Bible days.

JBQ, BC will need to win the national championship for me to give up my favorite pastime. Since that's not happening, it's almost time for an ice-cold vodka and tonic.

Clemson doesn't have Watson anymore, I think BC will be more competitive this year. Not saying they'll be competing for an ACC championship but they should have a decent year.
