Forget storylines, let's talk critical info from camp

Everyone wants to talk storylines about Summer Camp (here, here and here). All the narratives tend to get a little repetitive and derivative. Monday was just the first practice, so nothing is decided. Instead let's focus on the important things like:

Was anyone injured the first day?
Not according to BC's official report nor the media in attendance. Someone will go down before the first game. Keep your finger's crossed it is not anyone critical to the team's success in 2017.

Where are they practicing?
Shea is a construction site now, so the team has to practice on the Alumni Field. That's not ideal due to the size constraints and the heat. But it really shouldn't matter all that much. The team practices in the stadium when the bubble is up.

During the summer, Addazio held camps on Newton. The logistics of transporting the whole team there for August would be a logistical nightmare.

Was there anything of note that BC didn't mention?
According to Thamel, AJ Dillon is 247 lbs. He looked big in his recruiting videos (but that was in comparison to New England prep schoolers). At 247, he is going to look big among ACC players. At that size, he might not need a great. He can just run over people.

I really like Travis Levy, I truly believe he'll be the top running back by the end of the year.

Dillon being a 250lb 19 year old is a concern for me. He isn't going to end up playing to the 4 star ranking.

Levy is legit. He is going to prove again that the recruiting rankings mean very little.

If he's 250 pounds of muscle and still runs a 4.45 (as advertised) I think that's a good thing

Andre Williams weighed 216 as a freshman, 227 as a senior. a freshman being 20 pounds heavier than peak Andre Williams seems problematic.

Wolford last year was 6'2 250 - is Dillon going to play FB? seems unlikely he's going to have ACC RB speed at that weight. if he does, he could be special.

He holds the 100 meter and 200 meter records for his high school. Not saying his high school pumps out ACC caliber talent but that's still saying something. And he clocked in the 4.4s last year in the 40

440? Sounds like Khead's verbal SAT. Math was 410.

I wonder if he can catch(doesn't matter this year with QB's we have)? I smell a position change or BC got him because they committed to him playing RB. Michigan would have switched him DE or Hback.

Dink and Dump passing is our specialty. Maybe he can catch too? Also, do we think he's red-shirting? Prob not as this is a similar situation to J. Hilliman's 1st season. Prob guaranteed no redshirt in order to flip from UofM.

Offensive Personnel Thoughts...

Down field threat = 1, Jeff Smith. Double-teamed.

Thadd Smith = Screen Machine in the flats, thats it (although he did catch that TD against Duke that was wrongfully overturned).

Tight Ends = only good for Red Zone, 3rd & short security blanket and blocking for J. Hilliman's up the middle 2 yard gainers... The same goes for Callahan

M. Walker - Not sure what to make of him at this point.

Don't tell me D. Wade can run, he can't. Is he serviceable? Sure. But doesn't increase our offensive output from last year highhandedly.

Overall, we are looking at another bad offensive season. Defense will be good once again via our DLine, LBs and I even expect better secondary play as well

If passing game can work i.e. accurate both short and long with over 30 attempts a game it will open up space for the running attack. The offense has to be much more explosive than the last couple of years. That isn't asking too much. 2. Walker and both Smiths have deep speed. Didn't Thad Smith catch 70 yard TD pass from Flutie against Duke? Plus the pentagon named their best anti missile system after him. They are presently deploying it in South Korea.

Your first five words said it all, NED

TGS, I am beyond the sat and the gmat at this point. Maybe someday you will get there, squid.

Disagree on the TE assessment completely. Sweeney is the only known commodity on offense this season. He is a quality ACC level player.

Fair, Knuckle. Buck stops there

Dillon was nearly 240 in high school. Short but great HS career. The broken leg is disconcerting, but I think UM would maybe have moved him to LB. Standard size for that, really. Too much new talent in Ann Arbor, guy just wants to tote it. 247 is huge and 4.55 at that weight (his HS time) is impressive. Looking forward to watching him.

Ah, football chatter is back. I love it!

agree with Knuckle on TE - Sweeney has good hands and developed into a reliable pass catcher last year.

i'd put OL play above QB play in terms of "break even" - if the line is as bad as it has been then we can't run or pass and this season/daz's career is DOA.

if the line is back to where it was in Daz's first 2 years then we'll be able to run at the very least. nice stable of RB in Hilliman, Jones, Levy which goes from good to great if we honestly have a 250 lb freshman RB that runs a 4.5 40.

J Smith looked good last year and Callinan is a good enough blocker to be the 3rd WR.
just by playing the #'s someone out of Robinson, Walker, White, Lewis, Flutie, Thad Smith, Glines, McStravick, Borgersen, Garrison should emerge. that is 10 guys, all of whom were average or better recruits - can't one of them run fast and catch?
