That wasn't fun

I had high hopes for the NIT. I thought BC even had a chance to win it. But after a solid first quarter, things fell apart and Western Kentucky never looked back. Losing stinks, but the way in which BC lost was also frustrating. They turned the ball over too often. They allowed way too many easy WKU baskets with bad D. Robinson and Bowman got points, but in an inefficient manner and couldn't score during BC's long droughts.

I know BC only had two days to prepare for the team and the new rules, but they didn't seem ready. And having a former WKU staffer as an assistant should have made the usual scouting challenges easier. BC couldn't find good shots and did not move the ball well or get much in transition.

If Robinson returns and Hawkins gets a 6th year, BC will be good next year. I just don't have much hope they will be special until the talent really improves. The NIT was just another example of this team not being ready to compete anytime anywhere against anyone.

They cannot win on the road.

Is everyone still on team JC?

Ok with being embarrassed. Like that?

WKU shot 25-35 on 2 pointers

Mitchell only guy who plays D.

Defense wins in college hoops, see final four teams and KenPom defensive rating.

What will change next year? Time for a change, don't push Mark Schmidt who won his first NCAA game ever in 17 year of coaching.

Be bold for once.

This team was wildly inconsistent, and often gave clinics on how to play crappy D and turn the ball over. I understand that our ranks are thin, but this was reflective of inadequate coaching. Very frustrating end to a season that had its share of excitement.

It would be interesting to see how much the experimental 3-point line (farther back) affected our 3-point shooting. I had the feeling that the players were uncertain about where they were on the floor in relation to the line. Their movements on longer shots did not flow or seem automatic. I suspect the new line played with their heads.

Of course, that doesn't excuse the sloppy passing and the inability to move (fatigue?).

The game was another example of our kids being shoved around by larger, more mature players. The refs really let Western throw their weight around; e.g., BC didn't get a free throw until the 2nd half.

I didn't care much for Western's lack of class--taunting...the last second dunk...lets hope their bad behavior is not rewarded.

20 wins would have been nice. Lets hope next season is better...

There are no excuses next season. See how it goes and make a decision then.

Only an asshat would fire the coach now(6-19 wins). It is self defeating. The time to do it was after last season. Should have been Jarmonds first move.

If Christian gets back either Robinson or the guy from Illinois State then they should make the tournament next season. If they don't then can him(like I said before the season started).

Wasn't impressed with the Mark Schmidt half time interview but he can coach.

The glass is half full. WE beat 5 teams in NCAA tournament. Next year if we don't finish in top 5 say good-bye to jim.
Big gamble Jared Dudley , Danya Abrams , Howard Eisley. Great recruiting and their
drive will bring sucess.

No excuses, but selection show was Sunday night. Travel sometime on Monday to the opponent's home court. Play Tuesday night = recipe for a loss (certainly this year).

NIT should be played at a neutral site or in Madison Square Garden. I guess that's not possible, but still....

32, 16, 8, 4, 2. I think all the games were played in MSG in the original format, probably over two weekends. I might be wrong.

Anyway - if we want better treatment and fairness, we have to improve quite a bit.

I was impressed with South Carolina last year (as an example) and how their tough defense brought them to the Final Four. All teams going deep play tough defense, instead of the "wave at them as they go by" defense that we employ.

Go BC - get better!

We are in the ACC. Dudley or Eisley giving a pre-game pep talk is fine, otherwise they have no business coaching BC. Ewing at Georgetown paid his dues as an assistant.
Christian has 2 road wins in the last 3 seasons. That is just two more than anyone reading this and one was against a pitiful Pitt team this year. For all the progress this season by the players, getting embarrassed by WKU was a reminder of the limited potential Jim Christian has as our coach. Good riddance.

curran,

JC has played 41 roads games at BC and won 4 (lost over 90% of road games). Of those 4 games, 3 teams had losing records, and 1 (VT in 2014-15) had a winning record of 21-11

this year, BC ranks 14/15 in defense in ACC and #239 nationally

why is it that people want this guy back?

It seems that both Addazio and Christian managed to do just barely enough this year to save their jobs.

Howard Eisley hasnt paid his dues as an assistant?

curranac said...

i didn’t realize Eisley had been an NBA assistant since 2010, but they doesn’t mean he has any AAU contacts or can recruit in the ACC. Tom Crean would be a much better candidate.

curranac said...

Ever to Exel.

Knucklehead said...

Been talking Crean for a year.

Pearl Washington said...

Yeah JC has 4 years under his belt and has 4 recruits who play minutes.

That is a problem.

Should maybe have 7-8

End the charade

Very Obvious choice for BCHC candidate. I doubt BC could land him.

We were among the worst, if not the worst, P5 basketball program in terms of infrastructure and talent when Christian took over. The process has been slow but there is clear progress.

Speaking of a slow process, Tom Crean took forever to rebuild one of the best programs in college basketball and then failed to sustain success there. If you think he would succeed at BC when he didn't at Indiana, I don't know what to tell you. There's no doubt that there are a number of college coaches who could reinvigorate BC -- whether we are willing to pay them, and whether they'd come here if we fired a coach for no apparent reason are open questions. That Tom Crean is not one of those individuals is blindingly obvious.

"Clear Progress" is not a very useful standard. While there is progress from 0-16 in ACC play, We've still not progressed very much in 4 years. Is any hint of progress enough? I would not think so.

The question is whether JC s the guy to lead BC for the next few years. I do not think he is the guy.

yet he seems to be safe. jarmond is proving himself to be a low-energy, status-quo kind of guy like bates and will not do anything.

so seeking to get to mediocre is still alive and well at BC - Football and hoops. What a big disappointment.

Mod, going from single digits wins to 19 wins when your third best player didn't play is biggest turn around in the NCAA.
Plus the team has an obvious weakness, winning on the road. Improve there at all and you make the NCAA tournament.

You are dumb.

Pretty sure WKU had the same amount of time to prepare for the new rules. Typical lame BC excuse.
