Report: Addazio coming back

According to Football Scoop, which specializes in coaching news and is pretty well sourced, Addazio is coming back for 2019 season. Based on that report and Jarmond's meetings in New York City, it doesn't appear that BC will be making any announcement or extending Addazio beyond his current deal. I don't love this strategy, but I am not the AD. I will have more on the different implications of the non-extension, but for now let's hope it doesn't hurt Early Signing Day.

KICKBACKS ??????????????????????

In watching BC 33 Syracuse 29 OCT 2 ,1993 ON youtube you can really get a clear picture
how far BC football has deteriorated from the HEIGHTS,

Who today would match up with All American Pete Mitchell, with Stephen Boyd and Pete Kendall.

Glenn Foley threw for some 430 plus yards as BC ended its Carrier Dome losing streak.

BC football has descended to the Depths. FLOPPO , BATES ,SPAZZO, DAZZO=SHIT !!!!!!!!

The Dazoshit apologists are dancing in the streets. Jarmond is the weak, spineless AD I suspected from the beginning. How the hell do you reward mediocrity?

Dazzler knows that since he has turned Boston College, which is regarded nationally as a half-assed football program(listen to Todd Blackledge after Miami and Herbstreit on the day of the Clemson game) into a respectable program(I don't think it is yet but the national media people do) that he has more options than he has ever had in his career. If he doesn't get re-signed by BC he can follow Urban to Texas Tech or the Jets, he can work for ESPN or he can take another HC job in the MAC. He is all set.

He doesn't give a shit about having lost to FSU or Syracuse.

The most difficult part of it is that I will have to watch Anthony Brown play QB at BC for the next 2 years come hell or highwater.

Hockey team is getting its act together. Decent result against BU after a win Friday. Would like to know how many times BC has gone undefeated in a back to back against BU.

I am going to pray every day that AB is not the QB, that we don't continually run into 9-10 man boxes, and that we throw more than 5 yds pass the LOS regularly, not just on trick plays.
Of course I've done that regularly for the past 3 years, to no avail. If that doesn't change, I don't know if I'll watch.

That article is nothing but Daz' words from his Syracuse post-game press conference transcribed. It's obvious after this week of recruiting he wasn't getting fired. The more deplorable part than that is Jarmond not publicly announcing he would stay, or defending his decision to the masses of fans that decried Daz' finish to the season and called for change. It's a real slap in the face to donors big or small, former players, the current players, sponsors, and ticket holders. Either Jarmond doesn't care, doesn't have a clue, or is just using BC as a stepping stone and plans to be out before that contract is up and the damage is fully realized. He should have pulled a USC, and issued a freaking tweet, at the least. Extremely disappointed.

Eagle1331 - it’s all about accountability I agree.

Hoskins really turned it on for Ohio St. He threw for almost 500 yards against NW. Compare his mechanics to the "handoff machine" that is AB. Actually, AB could be coached. He just isn't.

Napolean Bonaparte said...

My guess is that a majority of the donors don't closely follow the W-L fortunes of the football team (or any other team for that matter) - otherwise change would come more swiftly. I think we are a minority. And the trustees probably view the administration of athletics as completely within the normal day to day control of Leahy. The only exception would be if there was a well publicized scandal associated with the program where they felt Leahy was not properly handling. That culture won't change until there are a few influential advocates among the trustees with strong feelings - including the chair - or until we have a successor to Leahy appointed who has a greater interest. But recognize that it's only even odds as to whether Leahy's successor would be better or worse when it comes to athletics. If Jarmond's $150 million fundraising campaign comes up woefully short - they'll either pay more attention or conclude there is limited donor interest depending on how Jarmond spins it. But right now - Leahy is running the show when it comes to coaching dismissals that cost money.

Anonymous said...

Yes, sports were at their best under monan who recognized the positive impact. The slow decline under Leahy has been going on for years. Wait until the us news rankings are published next year.

Leahy doesn't advocate for the school he spends it's hard earned money. Another person with no real affiliation with the school.

Geezer eagle said...

Yes. We have the Trifecta - Leahy, Jarmond and Dazoshit. The Outlook is bleak.

If true, very very bad news. Martin Jarmond has done a lot of good things at BC but Jarmond deserves blame for his inability to fire coaches. It's the nature of the business, you fire coaches when they underperform. It's not fun, but you have to do it. Addazio got SIX years--and Jarmond is allowing him to coach a seventh? Ever to be mediocre.

janebc said...

I don't place the lion's share of blame for this decision on Jarmond, but on the ever-arrogant Leahy. I believe Jarmond's hands are tied. I do wish Jarmond had made some type of statement to the fans, but that would have been a lot to expect of him. The silence about Daz's complete incompetence at $2.7 is deafening. If there is any P-5 program that treats its fans with more disregard than BC, I would like to know which one. What amazes me is BC's stupidity - even from a mercenary point of view - and willingness to endure an empty stadium and what will surely be a losing record next year. It makes no sense from an economic point of view. Apparently, no lesson whatsoever was learned from the Spaz debacle. The football program is once again to be allowed to fall into ruin, and a re-build needed for the second time in a decade. Why would anyone pay to watch an Addazio-coached team when they can pull up some Youtube clips of the 1970 Army-Yale game? Punting on 4th and 1 inside your opponent's 45 at the end of the game - it still boggles the mind

I dislike Leahy greatly, but to say the President of 20+ years has no real affiliation with the University is false.

As for the landscaping comment, I remember my sophomore year, Leahy's first, there were lots of things to address, but Leahy's famous quote was "we are focused on landscaping". That says all you need to know about the man. In my opinion, he has been a complete failure as President. Academically we have stagnated and athletically we are pathetic. The endowment has increased, but thats not due to him, that is due to a 10 year bull market. He needs to be forced into retirement in St. Mary's.

STL_eagle said...

What did you guys expect really expect after a 7-5 season with wins against Virginia Tech and Miami with two years left on his contract. Personally I think Jarmond has done a good job setting up the opportunity to get rid of Daz with the inevitable regression that is likely to occur next year. My biggest fear has been rewarding seven win Steve with a long-term extension in the name of continuity.

I agree that it would have been great to see change come this year since another year of Daz will be painful but all signs point to a divorce next year which is a year before his contract expires unless Daz pulls a rabbit out of his hat.

Regarding Leahy, it sure does seem like it is time for some fresh leadership but if you look at BC’s campus facilities, academic reputation and endowment size now versus 20 years ago it is hard to argue that Leahy has been a failure but with respect to athletics there is no doubt that Leahy has failed in part because he never really tried and has never really believed that success in athletics is important.

No Sun Bowl or Music City. Yeesh Military?? That’s a horrible bowl

bceagle91 said...

Knucklehead, this year's rankings were bad enough. Tied for 38th among national universities. We were tied with William & Mary and UC - Davis, just behind the University of Florida and Brandeis. Seriously. 11 spots behind Wake Forest. BU was 42nd. It wouldn't shock me if next year, our rankings were reversed.

1st Responders against Boise State. Year 6! It’ll be beautiful!!

What in the hell is the First Responder’s Bowl? Where is that? This could be a 6-3 game.

It's in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl. I don't think we have a shot. Boise State isn't much worse than Syracuse, in my opinion.

If you have been working somewhere and you have not improved anything related to your primary responsibility then you are a failure. My opinion is that if he attended the unversity he would more concerned with improving the academic reputation not allowing it to settle and decline.

Mod, that's just brutal. They seem to think we won't notice the difference between playing at the Cotton Bowl versus playing in the Cotton Bowl. Nice try. And a rematch of a 2005 bowl game? I'm pretty sure none of the players from that game are still playing in college - call it a hunch. Boise State might fall out of the rankings after losing their conference championship game at home, but they'll be tough to beat. And we know how well prepared the Eagles are in bowl games.

And current players were anywhere from 5-8 years old

Just shows you the level of respect for BC. Uva and VT get better bowls but were worse than BC this year. I know GT is feeling the same today.

Bravesbill said...

Boise St isn’t that great. Good defense, horrible offense. Lost to Fresno St in the ME championship game at home. Will be really low scoring.

ObserverCollege said...

SERIOUS: I'm guessing Loeffler (and Todd Fitch) are saying: "That's right, that's your offense Daz". I would imagine that's the best response in a job interview.

I can see the Bowling Green people: "Coach Loeffler, you managed to get BC to be a top-65 ranking while constrained with Steve ADDAZIO'S offense!!???"

I'd like to see Addazio move on, maybe to be OC of the LA Rams. Wouldn't they benefit from bringing in the father of their offense? Too bad they have to scuffle along without him.

JaneBC's on it with the observation that BC's silence is a real tell. I thought for recruiting purposes that they would hire a dinky "extension" of one year at a cut rate. At this point, BC is giving Addazio the rope to hang himself. He probably knows it, given his point that Loeffler indeed will stick around through bowl prep. You would think Addazio would have enough time to prep HIS offense to let Loeffler go.

BC might lose a couple more recruits with the uncertainty. I suspect they'll go 5-7 or 6-6 next season. It would be just like Daz to wind up in a bowl at 5-7 because there aren't enough 6-6 teams to go around.

Regardless, after that setback, you can release Addazio pretty readily. He's taken on ownership of the team's performance with the recent comments, and that won't serve him well. Probably his best bet is to coach this year and give ESPN a freebie as a commentator next bowl season. He'll be available.

CT said...

They changed the methodology of the us news rankings. Get over it.

JBQ said...

@CT: "It all depends on what the meaning of 'is' is". Sure the rules changed but it still reads 38th. It used to read like 29th.---- Boise State beat Fresno State a couple of weeks ago. This was a rematch and this time Fresno State won. Boise has an up tempo offense and a solid defense.---If BC plays around meaning if they run the same "snake offense", they will lose.

Geezer eagle said...

Remember, Dazoshit plays not to lose. Translation - he plays to lose. And to think we have another year of this asshole.

GET SOME OF THE REAL MONEY PEOPLE WHO are interested in sports and have them announce
until we have a new coach NO MONEY.
What players since the Jags departure could have played in the glory years of
Bicknell , Coughlin , O'Brien , Jags. A hand full at best.
Three amazing Quarterbacks Doug , Glenn , Matt and a host of very good ones including
the Hasselbacks , Scott Mutryn etc. Numerous great backs and receivers .WE made life
difficult for the fake Irish .
LEAHY and DAZZO=SHIT two peas in a pod.

CTeeeee, They changed it. It impacted everyone equally and BC dropped. So the ranking dropped relative every other school analyzed. Do I need to explain it further?

BC fan since the 1960s said...

UVA and VT got invited to better bowls because they travel better than BC - and you can't blame those cities for going with teams that will bring the most people.

The coaching situation is probably not the AD's fault. If he wanted to force a coaching change he was probably told he (the AD) would be fired - for cause.

Beyond the people on this blog, there is incredible apathy in this area when it comes to BC sports. Boston is not Ann Arbor, or Tuscaloosa, or Columbus, or Tallahassee, etc. - and when you combine that with football not being on the priority list of the administration, the school can basically do anything it wants with no repercussions.

I wish them the best and hope they win the Dallas Bowl and go undefeated next year - but I am done for now. Will come back when there is a new HC; hopefully in 2020. See you then and best wishes to all.

@BC fan since the 1960s: Hold the door open and get out of the way. There is a "gaggle of fans" following you out the door.

BCAlum2000 said...

The day of Gameday and the Clemson match, the game was discussed in every news update on 90.9 (NPR). Their sports announcements NEVER mention BC. The point, when you win and you are successful, the hype follows. Win some friggin games and there will be no apathy. Start 7-2 and then lose to Clemson, a horrible FSU team and a mediocre Syracuse team that just lost the prior week 36-0, and that equals apathy.

As for the US News change in methodology, agreed, it effected everyone in some way. The excuse that it hurt a smaller school like BC more is BS seeing as how Wake Forest and similar schools were unchanged. Leahy has sucked. The endowment growth has ZERO to do with him.

BCAlum2000 said...

The tweet by Jarmond is a focking joke. Seriously, who the eff do you think you are tricking?

Texmexeagle said...

He tricked a lot of oblivious BC "fans" which we have quite a few of.

Anonymous said...

You think he was referring to the game as the cotton bowl or the facility? If he was trying to pull a fast one wouldn't he mention 1985 or flutie. The tweet isn't saying anything bit what it says. Give it a rest with the anti-leadership crybaby bullshit.

BCAlum2000 said...

If he was not trying to be cute at the least and pull a fast one at the most, he would have said at "the venerable Cotton Bowl Stadium" or something to that effect.

To bc eagle 91 and BC Alum 2000 - I believe good landscaping and good athletics are entirely compatible. Look at Stanford and Duke - beautifully landscaped campuses and excellent athletics. I believe we can be good at both.
