Media Guide released!

Another sign the football season is near: BC released their media guide. The timing coincides with the ACC Media Days that started Sunday. It might not mean much to the casual BC fan, but the media guide is a huge project for the Sports Information Department. Congrats to them on publishing the 2015 version.

Is it worth reading the media guide? It is full of fact and figures, so it can be a little dull. However, the athlete profiles are always well done. For many of the players, their Media Guide bio is our first detailed introduction to them. The media guide is also a great source for team history and records.

The summer roster was also released. The only real news there is that Nat Dixon is still listed. On social media it seems like he might have left the team. I am sure the Sport Information department will clear that up soon.

Quick take on Media Guide and Depth Chart

BC has been putting its media guide online for more than a decade. But this year it is in a much more reader friendly format (see below). The guide is a huge and difficult project every year, so congrats to the team for another job well done. I also thank them for the new format and embedded code. While there are only a few of us who keep referencing back to the doc over time, the format improvement is welcome.

The biggest news in the whole document is the preseason depth chart. While it will change before the start of the season, it still offers a glimpse into the direction the staff is heading.

Of note...

-- Richman is at LG, Spinney is at C and Cleary is at RT. In my outside opinion the problems with last year's offensive line began when they moved guys from positions of strength to new spots within the line (Richman from LG to C and Cleary from T to G). Now you have three guys who will start in the same positions they finished last year. Wetzel and White are not as experienced at their respective spots, but I think we will be ok upfront.
-- Momah as a starter. I feel like Momah's potential has been wasted a bit with bad QBs and misguided redshirt year on Defense. Maybe this year it will all click. I don't think it is a slight to Swigert either since there should be plenty of snaps for the 2nd team WRs.
-- Nick Clancy still in the mix. Clancy is another guy who showed promise early in his career but has seen his playing time diminish bit. I guess we are fortunate to have plenty of depth at LB.

Media Guide 2009 is here!

BC released their annual Football Media Guide today. You can click around on the PDF version here. Congrats to BC Sports Information for putting out another great book.

There was a decent amount of banter on the message boards about the depth chart. Don't read too much into any of it. The key position -- QB -- won't be settled until close to kickoff and will probably drag into the season too. Due to rotations, depth charts for most of the defense and WRs is also unimportant. The real interesting area will be left guard. Right now Emmett Cleary is listed above Richman. I expect a few other guys to be in the mix there too.

Other areas of interest include the usual history and stats sections as well as the full bios of the new coaches.

Regardless of whether you read every page or just skim it, the best part of the media guide is that it is one more reminder that the season is approaching.
