Addazio's first recruiting update

Addazio is not wasting any time trying to solidify this transitional recruiting class. The first stumble was losing top-ranked kicker Michael Geiger to Michigan State. While disappointing, I don't think it should cause anyone to panic. We have time to find another kicker or could wait until next recruiting season.

Meanwhile Addazio and Day have been visiting all the other commitments to reaffirm their relationship with BC. They seem to be well received. What's interesting is that Atam Ntantang tweeted that he is expecting a visit from Mike Siravo on Tuesday. Is that the first hint that Siravo might be staying in some capacity? Even with the good first impressions, I expect other Spaz commitments will stray. It is only natural.

Outside of locking down the guys who committed to Spaz, Addazio is also trying to flip some kids to BC. Rumored targets included Florida Running Back Robert Davis and Asiantii Woulard. Woulard would be a big indicator of BC's future direction. We already have two QBs committed. A third would show that Addazio wants to transition to dual threat QBs sooner rather than later.

I guess change is inevitable, but I love the pro-style QB tradition we have.

Thanks for pumping out the updates lately Bill.

given that we have Freese for another year, the Kicker de-committing is probably a good thing. i'd rather have an extra schollie to use on a skill position or another position of need like the Lines instead of redshirting a backup kicker.

Losing the K is awful. You don't want to play a true Frosh K in 2014. Best case scenario, you are able to redshirt a K for a year before playing him in games that matter. BC's margin of error is too slight to not have a solid kicking game. Could easily envision losing a few games due to missed fgs.

Also, Dazz's favorite excuse at Temple was the "transition" from pro-QB style to "dual threat"

Very interesting comment by Alvarez re: BIG 10 expansion. The league was worried about Penn. St. leaving for an east coast conference.( ACC).Thus Rutgers and Maryland. The Big 10 payout per team was $24 mil last year. S.I. projected a payout of over $40 mil five years hence. Assume that figure is accurate( although it may be somewhat high) PSU would have little incentive to leave the BIG 10 for the ACC. The financial hit would be too steep. However if the ACC implemented an unequal distribution scheme PSU could be enticed. 2. The Big 10 is generating much of it's revenue from their own cable network. Were the ACC to add PSU, a cable network and ND as a full member it's income may exceed the Big 10. ND and PSU would have to be paid a higher share of the revenue but the end result might be a stronger, more stable conference with increased funds for all. Who would complain if ND and PSU took out $45-50 mil yearly if everyone else got over $30 mil. 3. For the Big 10 to pay each of the 14 programs over $40 mil annually it will have to generate nearly $600 mil. Could an expanded ACC get to that number? Presently ESPN pays about $250 mil for all of it's broadcasting rights. If those rights went north of $300 mil and a cable network ( maybe in association with the Pac 12 network) could produce an extra $100 mil your total would be $400 mil for the regular season. Post season b-ball and football money would be in the $160 to $200 mil area. All could benefit from this approach.

"Losing the K is awful." -- again, no it isn't. in the 2011 recruiting class our 2nd highest rated recruit was Alex Howell, K from SC. he redshirted in 2012 and was a freshman last year. he will be a sophomore next year and we will have 2 years of eligibility post-Freese. plenty of time to find another guy, and plenty of more pressing issues for this football team than redshirting a backup K.

I don't get trying to get another QB. Boyle is not a traditional pro-style QB and Myles Willis, while like going to be a RB or WR, runs a pretty dynamic offense down in Georgia...

We already have our next kicker in Howell. Losing this kid isnt that big a deal.

We had a kicker from San Diego before Freese and Aponvicious who was also one of our highest rated recruits. he was a total bust/fraud like the guy who recruited him.

Kicker rankings mean nothing.

If any school has proven this Boston College has with Aponovi. . . . you take a guy out of the stands and he can kick 35 yards and in after 2-3 months of practice.

I do not agree with a run first philosophy and a dual threat QB. I prefer a pro-style QB, a good o-line and A running back.

Since we have ZERO on the o-line and ZERO in the back field Addazio better start flipping people over to us from those positions. NOT trying to keep the WR's and K's that the WORST COACH IN BC HISTORY recruited.

Complete non-sequitor, but Kuechley is leading the NFL in tackles as a rookie. I love that guy.

It's nice to see that Western freakin Kentucky was able to hire a better coach than BC.

Bravesbill -- are you serious? Petrino couldn't sniff a "real" job right now. he's an f-ing weasel that BC wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

Bravesbill said...

He is a weasel but he's also a legitimate college football coach. He got a raw deal at Arkansas.

really? a raw deal? he used school funds to hire someone he was having an affair with. then got in a motorcycle accident with her on the back and lied about it to the Athletic Director. Calls for a firing if you ask me
