Thoughts on BC's promotional poster

BC released its 2017 promotional poster. It looks cool enough that it should keep the players happy. As much as the Athletic Department would like this to gain traction beyond current BC fans, the poster remains something only the dedicated care about.

However, the skyline and "Boston's College" slogan point to the Athletic Department's ambition. They want to be embraced locally. A poster won't do it, but the goal is admirable. Winning games will be the best first step.

Vintage BC posters

There are no BC Calendars this year. However, Asgard -- the company behind the old calendars -- still has a lot of cool Christmas gift ideas. You can buy a vintage BC poster (above) or classic art and products from old comic books, other sports teams or other gift sets. If you are still trying to find a good gift, take a look and be sure to use their discount for readers of this blog.

How to buy:
1. Go to www.asgardpress.com, and use the promo code "atleagle16."

Or

2. Just click on the link below. http://www.asgardpress.com/?promocode=atleagle16

(A heads-up, the site doesn't calculate the 10% discount until the very end, so don't worry when you don't see the discount when you put the calendar in your shopping cart.)

I do get a referral on all the purchases made through the link.

2014 Poster

BC released their 2014 promotional poster. It is certainly a change from past years, but I like it. Replacing the action shots and guys in uniform with the Gasson rotunda and the seniors in ties and blazers is different. Plus it reinforces the image and structure that Addazio is selling. These things are more about marketing to future players than current fans but this poster works on both levels.

Kiwi in Africa and other links

If you haven't watched this clip of Kiwi in Uganda helping cancer and AIDS patients, give it five minutes. I try not to overplay the all "BC guys are great people" narrative, but you have to appreciate Kiwi lending his time and celebrity to this cause. Considering his grandfather was murdered and his family run out, there are a million reasons not to go back to Uganda. Yet he is and trying to do some good. Good for him.

After a few rough years, BC's Defense is our calling card once again.

Volleyball lost to Wake Forest.

Basketball Season Poster is out. I don't know why, but I still find these sorts of things interesting. The team posters (and media guides) are like little time capsules. I wish someone and BC would digitize and post all the old posters.

Team Poster 2012

Here is our 2012 poster. No stars, lots of players and an emphasis on BC's iconic buildings. I like it.

2011 Football Poster

BC released its new poster this morning. My thoughts below the image.

I am really glad they ditched the cliched players posing theme that every college uses. I like the idea of the action shot. My only complaint though is that there is a lot going on in this image and you can't identify some of the players without their numbers. As for the slogan: "everyday is gameday"...not bad. Let's hope Spaz -- whose gameday acumen is in question -- shares that mentality as he preps and coaches the team this year.
