Fletcher signs with Jets

After going undrafted, Donnie Fletcher signed a free agent deal with the New York Jets. I am happy for Fletcher and his family. Let's hope the new NFL roster rules will allow him to make a good impression. Being a free agent still makes him a long shot to make the final team. However, plenty of his former teammates have built NFL careers after going undrafted. Good luck, Donnie.

BC posted an video interview with new women's basketball coach Erik Johnson. It seems like he has the right approach to turning the program around.

Donnie Fletcher couldn't have gone this far without his aunt and uncle. Also note how important Ben Sirmans was in recruiting him. Sirmans was the lead recruiter on Kuechly too.

BC held a Draft party last night. It seems like a good idea to raise interest and please donors. Maybe they do it again when we have another first rounder.

Who benefits the most from BC's Pro Day?

Wednesday is BC's Pro Day. Luke Kuechly is the main draw but he'll be surrounded by former teammates and select players from UMass, Harvard and Holy Cross. At this point Kuechly is highly likely to be a first-round draft pick. Donnie Fletcher still has a chance to be a late-round pick. Everyone one else is fighting to get a chance. If the guys below impress at the Pro Day, they may get signed. Here are the guys who have a chance to impress on Wednesday.

1. WR Ifeanyi Momah. Momah's season was cut short, so he needs this day more than most. I don't think he will put up huge speed numbers, but his size will impress in person. It is a passing league so I expect someone to sign a good player who also happens to be 6'6.
2. DE Max Holloway. Holloway has got to be incredible if he wants anyone to take a chance on him. He's not well known, not ideal size and only has three years of game tape.
3. P Ryan Quigley Quigley became a great directional punter. Is that worth a draft pick? Probably not, but if he shows some power to go with his touch, I think he will get a get interest from a few teams.

Mark Spinney and Dan Williams are long, long shots to get drafted, but they can play multiple positions. If they work out well, a good agent should get them with an NFL team. The event starts at 11 AM and will run until 2 PM. Pro Day is closed to the public.

The Beanpot starts tonight. BC is in the late game against Northeastern. I apologize for the lack of a preview, but I haven't been able to watch much BC hockey lately. The Heights put up a good piece. If you have some sort of sports package you can watch the game on NESN.

Women's basketball lost to Wake Forest. They remain winless in conference but still have a few winnable games left on their schedule.

I'm glad BC wrote this article on Steele Divitto. If the Globe won't write it, BC might as well promote it on their own site. You also have to be impressed with Steele's maturity.

Women's hoops blownout and other links

If more people cared, I think there would be outrage about the Women's basketball team. Wednesday night North Carolina ran them out of the building, winning 77-46. BC is now the only ACC team yet to get a conference win and only has five wins overall. The concern is that this is Crawley's fourth season and the decline has been steady. BC fans can be patient but I think BC needs to show a little more fight as the season winds down.

Donnie Fletcher is making the most of his time at the Senior Bowl practices. This report noted that he had speed in one on one drills. He also showed strength and pushed a WR around.

One of BC's Plan B recruits -- Jameson McShea -- decided not to commit and is going to Harvard. Gene told Around the Res that this class would have 18-19 recruits. If Spaz is on the same page, he better scrounge up some new verbals quickly.

Even though Lunardi is on the bandwagon, I am more encouraged that the more accurate Bracketology 101 has BC in the Tournament. Those guys have BC among the last four in and among the "First Four" games. The cynic in me says that it will be a certainty that BC is included in the first "First Four." Because the "First Four" is like being in the Tournament but not really.
