A nice start

I would consider leaving the ACC if it meant we never had to play Wake Forest again. I can never relax against the Deacons. This had all the makings of a typical Wake meltdown, but things were different. Jags kept the team calm and kept attacking. Good win.

Quick thoughts before I post my review...
-- I liked the attacking offense
-- I think the D played pretty well (though I may feel differently after watching it back)
-- Mixed day on special teams
-- Good turnout from the BC fans

Finally, congrats to Jags. We have a long way to go and it was a far from perfect day, but he and his staff are a breath of fresh air and I am looking forward to next week and the rest of the season.

Grades and second viewing thoughts will be posted Sunday.

As a passionate college football fan, I thought Jags' debut was phenomenal. I was very concerned going in knowing our history with Wake Forest and given the fact that we have a new coaching staff. You can imagine my depths of dispair when we were quickly down 14-0 to the defending conference champs. But, that only served to make the game more exciting.

I have not seen such a wide open BC offense since Foley-Coughlin. And this defense is by far better than any Coughlin ever fielded. There is a lot of criticism of the defense. First, this Wake offense is very, very difficult to defend. Everyone is going to yield a ton of yards to this squad. Keep in mind, the BC defense only gave up 14 points (granted it took 3 Tribble INT's to kill a few Wake drives). Further, they gave up a mere 2 yards rushing, despite losing B.J. Raji. 2 yards!! I think Spaz has finally figured out the mis-direction.

And how about that offense? Granted, they only had 52 yards on the ground, but they also had two backs injured and 3 new starters on the O-line. Ryan took too many shots for my comfort, but overall, I like the quicker, more svelt line, and I saw some amazing blocks! And the receivers were tremendous. They made clutch catch after clucth catch.

Folks, this team is only going to get better. Yes, we have a lot to work on, but I am tickled pink to come away with a conference victory in an exciting game. Nationally, this game is getting zero play. But,I'm telling you, this is one of the more exciting BC teams from top-to-bottom since the Flutie era. I have been resistant to annointing Matt Ryan asa big time QB, but I cannot think of another QB I would rather have on this BC team.

It was a great day at Alumni yesterday. If nothing else, it was great to see 1) a packed house before school has officially gotten underway, and 2) a game plan that reflected what Jags, Logan, and Spaz set out to do.

The offense spread the field nicely, allowing a number of receivers (Brandon Robinson, in particular) to find seams. This is critical given the fact that most of our guys are short and will have trouble going over the top. Did we run the ball yesterday?

The team definitely had a few jitters to work out early, and I was not pleased by Wake's ability to march down the field with such ease...

That said, BC came out on top, and it looked like the team is buying into the new scheme. Hopefully, the off-field issues will sort themselves out and the Eagles can keep rolling. Next weekend could be a lot of fun.

Bill- I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Bill, you're right about good fan presence. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of alumni around, actually ran into lots of old friends. I know it was Labor Day weekend, but it was awesome to see a ton of Super Fans from different years in the crowd (lots of different sayings on the shirts as we walked around the stadium). I hope that alumni and current students continue to show up early and cheer loudly! Go Eagles!
