Ugly but I'll take it

My dad is out of the country and called me after the game. "Hey, congrats! Another win." I had to explain this wasn't the type of game where the final score or even game stats told the whole story. But after the start of the season, I am willing to accept sloppy, frustrating 20-point wins.

Initial thoughts:
-- The line play was uneven but got better once they pulled Ramsey and put in Hall
-- Dropping into heavy zone is probably the best way to play Ryan
-- The defense played well
-- The special teams looked Petercuskie-esque

I'll have my second viewing thoughts and grade reports late Sunday night.

After Georgia Tech's loss today, our first three victories have lost some of their luster. And while I'm still optimistic, it's clear that this team shouldn't take anything for granted. The last thing we want to see is a letdown against ND (yes, that seems increasingly impossible, but still). And we're really going to have to gear up for the latter part of our schedule, because our toughest games are not behind us yet.

Uh... Wake Forest won.

I'll certainly take our first 3 wins. A win in Atlanta still the strongest. Wake winning helps us by giving Maryland an early loss in ACC. Bottom line is to stay focused and take care of business on our side of the conference. FSU and @Clemson will shape up to be marquee matchups.

Alex, if you can read, TM was referring to the Ga Tech loss to Virginia, not Wake's win.

@ bravesbill: relax bro, either your spewing negativity about the BC program or getting on particular commenters. Take a deep breath.

BravesBill: I believe TM's first sentence reads "After Georgia Tech's loss today, our first three victories have lost some of their luster." (Emphasis mine.)

After Wake came back to win against Maryland, our win against Wake doesn't look so lackluster, particularly considering it was the first game of the year and Wake still had all of their swagger from last season.

Number 1, criticism is not negativism. I have been quite fair to BC's performances this season so far. Check my blog if you do no believe me. Second, I was just defending TM after Alex attacked him. Third, I did not mean to attack Alex.

Hey guys,

I guess what I meant to say was that all of our conference opponents so far have shown some weakness beyond losing to BC, so I agree with Coach Jags and everyone else who has said BC needs to keep up the intensity. The first three wins (and Army) represent the best start we've had in years, but it's not like we blew away a bunch of top 10 teams and have nothing but cupcakes from here out.

I agree with Brian:

"Bottom line is to stay focused and take care of business on our side of the conference. FSU and @Clemson will shape up to be marquee matchups."

I think the most impressive and encouraging part of our four wins is the new philosophy/confident in marching down the field late in the game with a lead. I was very encouraged when we were leading the Ga Tech game in the 4th quarter and Logan/Jags kept putting the ball in the air.

In late game scenarios when BC is winning, the old regime (read: TOB and his coaching staff) would have run the ball up the gut 3 times, ate up some clock and punted the ball away. Everyone - the team, the coaching staff, and the fans - would get nervous that the other team would come back and score/take the lead. I think this lead to a lot of the WTF games we experienced under TOB. The key is to stay aggressive late in games, and have confidence in both your defense and offense to win games in the end.
