First look at the new depth chart

BC released a spring depth chart and prospectus. This can and will change before September, but this snap shot is a good indicator of how things will develop. Here are a few thoughts and points worth noting. Share anything else that surprised you in the comments section:

-- Crane as the clear starter. I believe the staff entered the offseason with an open mind. So far it seems like Crane is stepping up and putting the doubt to rest.
-- Davis ahead of Boek. The JUCO transfer has only been on campus a few weeks, so this isn't too surprising. I also thinks it speaks to Davis' potential and progress.
-- Thomas Claiborne starting at OG. Considering he's only been on this side of the ball for half a season, he's obviously taking to it quickly.
-- Lack of depth at TE and DE. Injuries and graduation have made us thin at a few spots. We need McMichael and Allan Smith to comeback healthy this fall.
-- Toal and Herzy not definite as starters. With the way Spaz rotates, all our LBs will get plenty of snaps. I'm glad we have depth, but Herzy and Toal are two of our best. They should start against Kent State.
-- Mulrooney on offense. We need bodies back there for spring. I wonder if they'll move him back to D once the other freshmen show up.

OK 2 QUESTIONABLE apparent redshirts

Quigley??? Seriously? come on. The kid can't be any worse than what we have to offer now (that is: FG less than 30 yards).

Redshirting Okorhora and Atkinson???? COME ON. Anderson is an absolute DISGRACE. If you want to Redshirt either one of those guys, fine. But both??? As of now, we need a extra safety to watch our regular safety's back.

If I am misreading the depth chart, i apologize, I'm pretty intoxicated. But if I'm not, this is not pleasing to me - at this point - at all...

I don't understand where you are getting the redshirt idea from. Maybe the fact that they aren't on the depth chart? If it's that no one is on the depth chart until they show up at camp.

I agree that Anderson blows and cannot be trusted by himself back there.

LA, this is only guys who are on campus and healthy now. So no freshmen coming this summer and no injured guys like Raji.

That's the real story of the spring/summer; not simply who steps in at QB, but which freshman see the field/make a contribution this fall.

I too was initially surprised at just Haden and Fletcher on the depth chart, but I guess that fear's premature.

Sad no Bennett > Aponavicius. Kicking game is going to be even more important than last year, I would think, with the defense keeping us in games.

Also, not to beat a dead horse, but the legacy of TOB's weak recruiting in his final two seasons is going to be felt this season and the next, making the play of this class of freshman all that more imperative.

I saw Haden, but forgot he enrolled early. Many apologies.

Does anybody know the status of BJ Raji?

Ted, Raji is hurt but should be back by the season.

You missed the number one issue. WE DONT HAVE A NEW KICKER!

J Mac I think you're the one missing something here. We have a kicker coming - Quigley - but he is not enrolled currently so he is not on the roster for the Spring game.

Also, is Bennett done? Or is he just hurt this spring?

I certainly HOPE they start Mark Herzlich! Not only is he an excellent LB, he also stirs up the players and the crowd with his enthusiasm from the moment he steps foot on the field. He is a smart player and exciting to watch. We'll be watching him and hearing about him for years to come!!

Quigley arrives in the summer; they'll have Flutie handle the punting duties for the spring game. He's done this for the past few years anyway, as Ayers always missed spring ball with the baseball team
