Donahue adds depth with transfer
The Donahue staff grabbed a critical transfer in former Monmouth forward Travis Taylor. Taylor will be eligible for the 2011-2012 season and have two years remaining in his college career. Although we won't know his impact for another season, Taylor was very good for Monmouth (arguably their best player). Plus we really need the depth after we graduate all of this year's seniors. This is a solid (and much needed) pickup. I also expect at least one more incoming transfer this summer to bolster the 2011-2012 team.

"He was suspended for seven games last season for “violating team rules” and the team went 2-5 during that span."
Perfect fit!! I was worried all of Donahue's players were going to obey "team rules".
Not sure what happened to my original post, but here goes...
When Noreen transfers to West Virginiia (a big time basketball program) and we get a guy from Monmouth, my concern is that these aren't ACC caliber players. I know he's filling holes and that Craig Smith and Dudley weren't prize recruits, but it still makes me wonder if we're recruiting guys that can compete in the ACC.
Reggie Jackson is a star, we can't surround him with mid-major type players.
I'm not worried about a transfer who played big minutes and was able to score. We'll take that experience on a team that will be very young in 2011-2012.
thinking back to the early Skinner years, this is more or less what his recruiting looked like. bell was reasonably prized, but the team around him were basically reaches in the greater context of the Big East at the time, and it worked for us. Thinking about Michael Cotton who transferred from Oklahoma after getting no substantial minutes, Xavier Singletary who came over from Howard...as well as traditional commitments from guys whose saw a chance to play significant minutes at a BCS-level school and were contributors like Kenny Harley, Kenny Walls, Beerbohm, and Uka Agbai. Donahue has to crawl before he can walk I guess, as much as we would like to think he could pick up right where we left off.
now, having moved to the ACC, you'd hope that we wouldn't have to revert to that strategy again, but you can at least see a precedent there where a new coach needs to take this first step like this before moving up the stairs.
That's a really good point Ry. Guys like X, Beerbohm and Uka really were solid rotation players and achieved a lot of regular season success as seniors. We cannot realistically expect to compete for the Harrison Barnes-type recruits. Not any time in the next 3-5 years anyway. However, I think we are laying the groundwork with increased attention to AAU circuit and events like that Elite Camp recently run. My hope is that Donahue is able to build a team similarly structured to his Cornell team, only with more ACC-athleticism and natural talent. Tough, smart and lights out shooters. Not sure about Coach Donahue's defensive mantra, but we gotta improve that as well.
makes me nervous seeing Kreider here. I know it is probably nothing out of the ordinary, but it was just a reminder that he likely isn't going to be around for four years.
Very much so, although I can't blame anyone for taking the money and running.
This is a great pickup. He is explosive and I think can help our team go far.
I think Donahue is already doing some great things for BC it is clear he is working hard now with 6 recruits. Let's keep in mind he has yet to coach any games as BC's head coach but once the wins start coming in I expect us to see some of the top recruits coming in.
Kreider isn't going anywhere...at least not for another year. His game is still a bit raw: He skates with his head down for one and maybe going to this camp can make him better. I won't say what he does after 2010-2011, though. Same for Samuelsson.
yeah i didn't think he'd be leaving this year...but there is the obvious likelihood that he doesn't graduate with his class
