Kevin Rogers was fired

I tweeted as soon as I heard. I know I was wrong on the Ryan Day as OC stuff, so take this for all that you deem it worthy.

The 'leave' excuse protects both sides from looking worse. In some sense, I actually understand making a change now. If the offense and the staff are not working, you better make a change while there is still time to save the season. I was told that Spaz and Gene were in agreement on the move.

I will post more as it develops. I expect many to say I am wrong on this.

If this is true, then I guess Spaz and Gene aren't messing around. 20 points through the first two games of the season are brutal, but it's hard for anybody on the outside to know the full story.

"I was told that Spaz and Gene were in agreement on the move"

This is cause for concern -- two knuckleheads in agreement!

and let it be said that these are the same guys who kept Gary Tranquill at OC for 2 YEARS!

How much rope does GDF have in his position? I'm starting to wonder if its enough to hang himself.

The alarming part for me now is no longer that we have a less experienced play caller, but rather we have a less experienced play caller working within a system that was created by a guy who was bad enough to be fired 2 weeks into the season.

1) If this doesn't say institutional instability then I don't know what does. How on earth are we supposed to sell recruits on the program when there's so much upheaval on a yearly basis. Has GDF turned into Al Davis? What the heck is going on over there anymore?

2) If this is actually true then I have to say that colluding and using Rogers's "health" as a cover-up is dishonest, sleazy and disgusting. I really thought BC would have held itself to a higher standard than that.

I have a friend who knows Whipple and Turner...he told me a lot of disturbing things about GDF's interview with Whipple and also the whole story on the Turner departure last year. Blauds finally scratching the surface on this story 2 years later? Good reporting

Very good reporting.

This is awful, but it does happen to slake my thirst for blood after Saturday's debacle.
I suspect the admins will only take so much of GDF acting rashly. On the other hand, though it's not like Rogers made a good impression - he never said anything complimentary about BC other than they paid him a lot of money, talked a lot about how great ND was and, bottom line, even in the NW game, couldn't keep the offense on the field long enough to keep our D from wearing out by the 4Q. Here's hoping Brock is the answer.

And for more......new depth chart came out today

On offense, Spinney and Richman are completely off the depth chart. We have no senior starters on offense. Are they hurt or demoted?

On defense, 4 starters from last week out: Max Holloway, Kaleb Ramsey, Steele Devito and CJ jones. Injuries for Jones and Ramsey. Demotion for the other two???

Is all this change a bogus way by Spaz to shake things up. Remember he did something like this against VT two years ago with disastrous results.

the boat is a rockin'

The insane asylum at chestnut hill!!

Tonight at BC NYC alumni event, someone asked Gene "Will Rogers ever coach at BC again?" Gene immediately went on the defensive and said BC had fired coaches before and wouldn't be afraid to do it again. If they had fired him they would have told everyone. If the news is true that Rogers was fired, Gene lying would be absolutely unacceptable and a shame.

People in critical roles in organizations lie all the time in order to protect one thing or another. So, this is not surprising, but I am more disturbed by the fact that this guy GDF)can continue to function this way. Obviously someone is giving him "the big green light." This years recruiting class was fairly slim to begin with, and now this. Hopefully someone is checking in with all of them. One offensive touchdown in two games isn't going to impress much. Sadly, if I was a HS athlete with some degree of talent I would definitely be looking in a different direction at this point because on the surface this looks like a big mess. I wish GDF would "call it a day" already.

The inept handling of the Rogers departure parallels the Turner rift, the Jags fiasco, and the attrition of players.

The adults here must be held accountable for a football program in total disarray three weeks into a new season.

We shall suffer through a season of excuses and confusion, with our only hope being that there will be a clean sweep the first week in December.

GDF can go, too, as BC's ship heads straight for the iceberg as he rearranges the deck chairs on this Titanic.

This is very interesting.

If Rogers was fired, I would very much like to know how much of a free hand he had at calling the plays and whether or not he was constrained in any way.

If that was the case, tensions can mount very quickly. If he was fired, was it for cause? Or do we have to pay his entire salary like Jags.

I'd say that Spaz/DeFilippo have some explaining to do. I know that the first two games were terrible offensively, but to fire a guy and call it a leave of absence is troublinjg in my mind.

Once O'Brien left, GDF is proving that he doesn't have the skills to run a major college football operation IMO.

Perhaps an empty Alumni Stadium on Saturday will force the cocktail sippers at St. Mary's to take a closer look at the current mess..... sorry, venting too much here but to think that I waited an entire year for BC football, and this is the result. My only consolation is being grateful that I didn't waste my money renewing my season tickets.

This is getting ridiculous.

How do you go from 10-win seasons (including an 11-3 in 2008) with a ridiculously smart and talented QB in Matt Ryan just three years ago ... and now we're stuck with this? Wouldn't a competent staff be able to parlay the success of their QB Matt Ryan (duh, the most important position) into recruiting another high-quality quarterback?

Obviously losing Montel Harris is a major setback, but c'mon. The 2-5 start last year, the 0-2 start this year ... it's frustrating as a BC fan.

"The first two games were horrible offensively"

We stunk in the Red Zone, but it's tough to shrug off 375 yards through the air to WR's that weren't exactly lighting the world on fire so far this year.

I love the blog but I'm not buying it. Unless your sources are unimpeachable I think you're too ready to think the worst of Gene and Spaz.

Walter said...

I need to know if this is true or not. I agree that someone that stuck with Nyquill for 2 years could fire Rogers after TWO games.

I understand where you are coming from. I obviously can't prove it beyond what I am sharing.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...

Honestly, at this point I don't see how anyone CAN'T be ready to think the worst of Gene and Spaz. Every bit of new information that comes to light about the past 3 years only paints an uglier and uglier picture of the program, and of those two in particular. Putting blinders on doesn't make stuff disappear.

One thing that's always been said about BC, almost as a justification for our lack of major success (i.e. championships, BCS bids, big wins) despite near constant above-average results, is that "we go about things the right way"--we run a tight, clean ship; we're a classy organization; we take care to protect our student-athletes, seeing to it that they not only graduate, but develop as students and athletes and people in general. That is BC's athletic reputation.

That is more than just being called into question at this point--it's crashing all around us with every one of these administrative blunders. And that'll be more damaging in the long-term than any amount of mere losing.

Walter said...

Sorry, I meant to say I agree that it's difficult to imagine someone that could stick with tranq for 2 years could fire someone else after just 2 games.
