A win is a win...I think

It wasn't pretty but it gets us that much closer to where we need to be. Our best players came through and Williams had a career day.

I will brave a second viewing and have grades up late Sunday.

The difference between this year and last year is that when we come out flat and uninspired, play pathetic against an inferior opponent, we somehow find a way to win.

We have 3 tough games remaining. We could lose all 3 or we could win all 3. I think we win against NC State and Maryland but lose on the road to Syracuse.

"I will brave a second viewing"

I had the Navy vs Hawaii game on CBS cable at the same time as BC. Jeez, the production quality was Division III on a bad day. Honestly surprised that ESPN show it on their network.

I disagree Bill. A win is a win. Period. We need every win we can get. It was not a good game. Tackling was terrible. D assignments were blown. But credit to the O, Retrig, and Williams for coming through.

New Mexico played us tough. The best they've played all year. But we still won. As EB said, last year we would have lost our nerve and given up. This we year we have a win and are one step closer to bowl eligibility.

Try to stiffle the puke when you brave the second viewing.

Also, it should be noted we have a winning record. At the last few years that should not be taken for granted

Trap game -- coming after our biggest win of the year against an opponent no one thought much of. Road game -- we've sucked on the road. Biggest game of the year for NMST, or at least Doug Martin to show his former employer up. Let's not forget these kids have been Spaz-ified for the previous 3-4 years. Nice to have the W.

Don't look now, VT is up by two TDs at the half over Miami

As an old infantry man once said, 'Any bayonet fight you walk away from is a great one'. Go Eagles, beat the Wolf Pack!

VT indeed beat Miami and has the inside track to play Florida St. NM St came out very inspired and BC was flat. Except for the big plays from Williams and Willis, they would have won. You have to give them and their coach a lot of credit. Obviously, they put at least "eight in the box". If a good team does this, BC will have to respond with Rettig. For some unknown reason, he is "gun shy" and has become just a spear carrier for Williams.

First road win in almost 2 years. 5 wins for the first time in 3 years. I'll take it.

Watch the perfunctory handshake between Martin and Addazio zt the end of the game. martin blows him off and Addazio looks pissed.

A win for the Offense and a loss for the Defense - but a W and we're happy.

Sending a team to that faraway location was probably not the best decision BB ever made.

Noe we are at the point we can rumble into a very successful season. However, an awful lot depends on our injury outlook.

Will Ramsey be able to anchor the DLine? If not, we are in trouble, IMHO.

Where do we stand with Defensive Backs? Was Sylvia hurt? the stream was so poor, I couldn't see who was playing at times. #28 true Freshman Milano was out there, as an example. With all due respect o players, we can't be successful with true freshen as DBs at this critical point in our season.

Go BC - beat the Wolfpack on Senior Day. We are in a dogfight for a Bowl bid with UNC coming on strong and Maryland and Syracuse waiting on the road.

I am not looking ahead except to say that the Syracuse Game will have huge implications for us - like many times in the old days. Rightly so, in many respects.

I don't know how they feel about it right now, but it's the renewal of a potentially great regional rivalry within the Atlantic Division.

This is what college football is all about - exciting right into the last game of the season!

Go BC - Beat NC State.

lbkjj I noticed the same thing.. I was wondering if it was just me that got that impression... I understand Martin wanted to go say hi to his old players and some of those handshakes/hugs looked meaningful to him, but it definitely seemed he was blowing off the coach...

I noticed the same thing BJK alluded to regarding the DBs. Sylvia seemed to be on the sidelines disabled. Milano was playing. With Rositano and Sylvia missing the secondary is seriously depleted. Maybe they should use McCaffrey, a solid special teams tackler at safety. Or play Joy, Stizak and Duggan more at LB and move Keyes back to DB. A win is a win even if not pretty. The O was explosive with AW, Rettig and Willis. Rettig belatedly hit multiple targets. The D wasn't stellar. But if Daniels and Asprilla make those early interceptions it's a different game. BC now averages 20 points a game on the road and 33 at home. A huge improvement over last year. They've played nine games and seven have been solid performances. 2. All BC fans should thank Fr. Leahy and the BOT for making the upgrade in the sports department( BB and Daz). Unlike Mao's Great Leap Forward BC's athletic Great Leap Forward didn't result in the starvation of forty million. The future is bright.3. The world waited almost two thousand years foe a Pope from South America. We finally have one. The world has waited almost 400 years for a Mayor from Savin Hill and he has arrived. Plus he's a BC grad. Joy to the world. It may behoove BB to get a 15 year license from the city for game days. Expand the tailgating hours from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p. m. In exchange for this increase all BC kickoffs are at 1 p.m. or before. Accommodate and pacify the neighbors. If the networks want to show BC at night do it on an away game. 4.At Espn and Cbs there will be no mention of Heisman and running back in the same sentence. If that were permitted then they would have to praise AW and by inference BC. That is to be avoided at all costs. At the end of the year will BC be rated higher or lower than ND? 5.UVA and Florida may be looking for new coaches in 2013. Could Daz get some of their high value commits? Don't put any stock in the rumor that Muschamp's replacement will be Daz and that BC would then hire Weiss of Kansas.

some interesting points, Ned.

A- agree on Andre Williams not being mentioned in the Heisman race even though the #'s he is putting up and the team's turnaround are both impressive. he currently leads the nation in rushing yards with 1471. his 12 TDs has him tied for 7th. the real question is will we be able to capitalize on Williams' success (and possible Doak Walker award) with a big time recruit or two on signing day. that would be ideal. i look forward to watching Andre on Sundays.

B- good idea on the new mayor and possible new negotiations for the tailgating issues. hopefully Bates reaches out and gets creative - there's absolutely zero reason for the ridiculous rules currently in place.

C- i had to LOL at the suggestion of Addazio returning to Florida -- UF fans still absolutely despise Addazio (his tenure at OC coincided with some "bad" UF teams) and i think there'd be an open revolt in Gainesville if that was even floated. i believe that Addazio is building something here.

D - related to basketball but worth bringing up -- former BC target Jon Severe (who wound up committing to Fordham) was 7/10 from 3 and scored 28 points in their opening night win. former BC target Alec Peters had 12 points and 8 rebounds for valpairaso in his first start. Donahue's inability to beat out lesser schools for talent is beyond troubling - his "great in game coach" title is being fast overshadowed by the bizarre roster management/recruiting. this season will determine his future at BC. UMASS absolutely embarrassed us the last time we played (82-46 ass kicking in the Anderson/Clifford/Odio et al rookie year) and should have a pretty good team this year with Chaz Williams (PG from Brooklyn NY) having a very similar game to Cotton from PC who torched Rahon. if we can't get the defense and rebounding under control, this is Donahue's last year on the Heights.

I'm happy for the win and not taking for granted where we've come from, but i can't shake the thought that when our team lined up head to head with what people are saying is the worst team in FBS, we were not better on any given play.

It took the Daniels INT to stop their O in the 2nd half.
It took a huge AW run TD + another big AW run TD + a Kickoff return TD to beat them by two TDs.

That doesn't make me feel warm & fuzzy.

The boys will play better this week I bet.

EL MIZ said...

BC getting drubbed by UMASS, down by 13 with 7 to play. Chaz Williams (as I predicted) is killing us in the second half.

Enough is enough, Donahue is on the hot seat and must go at the end of the season if the program doesn't turn around.

Bravesbill said...

I'm officially on the fire Donahue bandwagon now. What a pathetic start to the season.

EL MIZ said...

agree. #FIREDONAHUE. there are no excuses left. this is a poorly constructed roster, a team that too often cannot execute defensively, a team that for 3 years running has had no size and major rebounding issues that have not been addressed. recruiting is below average.

this season is going to get ugly fast. UMASS and Providence are two of the easier games. i do not see us matching last year's win total (16).

after the 6 sacks last year, with no new impact players on D, the ability to generate pressure is really remarkable.
