There will be plenty of names kicked around for Don Brown's replacement. If Addazio's track record means anything, he is likely going to hire either someone he knows or someone from within his network (meaning someone that coached with a Holtz, Davie, Meyer, or Pasqualoni). I don't see an obvious internal candidate to promote. Lempa is closer to retirement than promotion and doesn't have Brown's past success. I don't think Albert has done enough recruiting wise to earn rolling the dice with him as a first-time coordinator. Here are a few guys who will probably be mentioned right away.
Chuck Heater -- Heater was Addazio's Defensive Coordinator at Temple. I don't know if there was any bad blood or hurt feelings with Addazio not bringing Heater with him to BC. Since then Heater has done well as Marshall's DC. He's old, but consistent and coached at all levels. He knows Addazio and could probably transition easily. I don't know if he would have the same recruiting success as Brown nor do I know if he would keep the same scheme.
Scott Shafer -- Maryland just hired Shafer, so this might seem unlikely, but maybe Addazio can sell him on total autonomy at BC. At Maryland, D.J. Durkin will be the Head Coach and a defensive play caller. In the run up to the season finale, Addazio praised Shafer again and again. Maybe he can pry him away.
Kevin Cosgrove -- New Mexico's current Defensive Coordinator. I can see Addazio leaning on a Davie guy. BC can offer a raise. Cosgrove has a long track record but New Mexico's results weren't great this year.

Al Golden?
I agree with a previous comment on another post.. next year is going to probably suck just as bad as this year.. why not give AL Washington a shot? D is his game. He's proven a good recruiter for the school. He's a future HC. He learned under Brown. F it... let him have a go...
We expect a coach who delivered an "F" this year and whose program is in disarray to handle this well? Congrats to Don Brown, but he was the one serious coaching asset we had left!
Bates has not demonstrated the leadership skills needed to drive the changes the athletic department needs.
Administration indifference leads to student and Fan apathy which leads to underachievement and then the cycle starts over.
Serious change us needed. The question is how to make it happen?
The answer is simple, and it has nothing to do with Brad Bates. BC needs a President committed to athletics. Leahy shuffling his feet and not committing the proper resources ($$$$$) to grow the athletic department is the main cause of BCs problems.
What is Bud Foster doing these days? His scheme fits perfectly. Fuente retaining him???
Joe: The answer is simple, and it has nothing to do with Leahy. BC needs big time donors who give a damn about our athletics program. Rest assured, Leahy/Bates would be happy to direct every dollar of the $100mil you give straight into the athletic programs of your choosing.
I would give Randy Edsall a call as well. Boston College ties, defensive coaching history and needs to re-start somewhere. He is not getting another HC job for a while realistically OR he might be Addazio's replacement. The hardnosed discipline guys have done well at Boston College historically.
The answer lies in Hingham.
as blist previously noted, what is the role of Bates in this? conspiracy theories abound...
Bates wants to be UM AD, his dream job, where as of today he remains a front-running candidate.....
Gary Tranquil Syndrome.
Spaz, loser that he was, lacked the stature to bring in a real OC... so he scraped the bottom of the barrel and got Tranq (only years later did we find out that Tranq was not the worst - as Fitch was even worse)
Who is signing up for the last year of team Daz?
I think the suggestion of Heater sounds about right.. already a Daz toady... making peanuts elsewhere....BC will be a big improvement...
the Temple Trio, Heater, Loeffler and Daz ... together again.....
uggghhhhhh
some great responses here. "the answer lies in Hingham" - LOL. the "temple trio" - good grief, please no!
i have a feeling Addazio will botch this hire. oh, and he also has to get a new OC. so Daz has 2 hires to make - i don't like this at all.
we are not officially in "the ship be sinking" mode, but the boat is taking on water and the crew is taking the covers off of the life rafts. these next 2 hires may be the best indicator of whether we are trending back towards another 500 season or whether next year is going to be a 3-9 stinker.

While one or two big money donors would obv be nice, its not the problem, the money is there. They need a President who values the investment in athletics and what it can do for the university as a whole when successful (ironic since BC perhaps has been the university to benefit the most from a popular athletics program with Flutie). Leahy has been here for 20 years and just lines his pockets with $$ from athletics while putting nothing back into the program, he has far outstayed his welcome, and if you can't see that, then you need to get a little more educated.
As I have said on this site before, look an hour down 95 to Providence College. A small, catholic, private, basketball only college. They just committed $30mm to redo their entire athletic facility. They just won a National Championship in hockey after being a Hockey East afterthought for a long time. And they have a President who cares, who is committed to building the athletic department and committing the resources, because he realizes what it can do for the general academic reputation.
Our family has donated way more money to the BC Athletic department than they deserve, for over 40 years. Considering the mediocre product and the way they treat the fan base, they don't deserve a fucking penny. The school is going to face a major problem in the near future, if they don't get serious about current day athletics, they will become the next Holy Cross.
Knuck
If doable Foster would be great. He'd actually be an upgrade from Brown, IMO. We know he wants to be an HC, so maybe he'd take the leap to come to BC to position himself to be the HC here if Daz bombs next year. I'm sure he'd love to put a hurting on Va Tech after they shafted him by stepping over him for Fuente. Might be to threatening to Daz though.
hOOb - Foster staying on at VT (as of 11/28). Has that changed?
FOSTER STAYS LINK
So "unknown" what's your point? We ought to drop football and put everything into hoops? B/c 30mil will barely buy uniforms of an FBS team. Here's a list of private schools fielding FBS football, ranked by endowment. Plot this out by win-loss record over past 5 years and you'll notice a trend: We fall exactly where that model predicts we'd be. The schools that perform better than us have wayy more cash. Yes, it's an arms race, and if you don't have big time cash, you can't compete unless you're willing to sacrifice other things that make a university great. Cf. TCU and Baylor: They're competitive but nowhere near to cracking the US New Top 30 (and they're in Texas.) Yes, there are tradeoffs. That's economics 101, friends. I'd love to have my cake and eat it, too. Just waiting for someone to explain how that's possible.
Stanford - $22 bil
Notre Dame - $10 bil
Northwestern - 10 bil
Duke - 7 bil
Rice - 5.6 bil
USC - 5.6 bil
Vanderbilt - 4 bil
BC - 2.2 bil
SMU - 1.5 bil
TCU - 1.5 bil
Syracuse - 1.2 bil
Wake - 1.1 bil
Baylor - 1.1 bil
Tulane - 1.1 bil
BYU - 1 bil
Miami - 865 mil
I would not dare compare Providence to Boston College. That school is a dump. They need to refurb the entire place. Frankly it is a misappropriation of funds to put that money into athletics.
The problem with Boston College right now is that it is run by non-graduates. Who gives a fuck when you can work their for a few years build your resume and then move on . . . to Michigan.
there
amdg, thats not my point at all, actually, you listing the endowments is your way of saying exactly what you accuse me of saying, BC can't compete so why not just accept being a shitty FB program like Wake, not my point at all.
Going through that list, lets see the schools listed below BC that have invested in facilities : SMU - Beautiful facilities, TCU - Stadium upgrades recently and great facilities, Cuse - New indoor facility and dome upgrades coming, Wake - building new indoor facility, Baylor - obviously, Tulane - New stadium, Miami - opened new ball arena 10 years ago.
Being in an arms race is not backward looking, its an investment in the future. What a shocker, the private schools that you listed who have taken athletics seriously for years, are all miles ahead of BC and have much larger endowments. Do you think that success in athletics could have a potential effect on endowment size ? The rest are investing in athletics now, so they'll be leaving BC in the dust soon enough. Basically all YOURE arguing is that BC should just accept being shitty because they have a small endowment. The way to see improvement is to invest, plain and simple.
My only argument, is that if Father Leahy wanted this done, it would be done by now. Bottom line, the money or the ability to finance facility upgrades is there.
And using Providence College as a comparison is absolutely relevant, the fact that a small basketball only school (with far less athletic income and a much smaller endowment) is able to upgrade their facility while BC drags their feet shows how far behind the times BC is falling, and they are upgrading the entire campus on an aside.
If I'm Bates or Don Brown, get me the fuck out of this cheap shit hole. No reason to waste their prime earning years with a cheap shit hole that won't properly support them.
Tenuta's name was mentioned on BCI, he'd be as seamless a fit as I could think of to replace Brown.
Nay nay - the guy is Ng at this stage of his career imho.
In the Spring, I visited the BC campus for the second time. The Yawkey Center is impressive. There is a giant picture of Ted Williams (before he was frozen). The Red Sox were an inspiration, both economically and emotionally, in the early years of BC football. What happened?
