Report: Daz closing in on Jim Reid

According to Blauds and some Iowa folks, Addazio is closing in on Jim Reid as Defensive Coordinator. If this comes together, I am okay with it. At 65, Reid is a little older than you would want, but his track record is very good. This would be Reid's second stint as DC at BC. In his one season at the Heights, he guided the awesome 1994 Defense to 7th overall ranking. Offenses, personnel and approaches are very different, but I can say as an eye-witness, that defense was very, very aggressive.

In more relevant times, Reid was Defensive Coordinator at Virginia from 2010 to 2012. During that time he helped turn the Cavaliers into one of the better Ds in the ACC. Their ACC Rankings each year:

2010 -- 10th in the ACC
2011 -- 4th in the ACC
2012 -- 5th in the ACC

Reid has numerous ties to New England and Massachusetts. Like Brown, it appears like Addazio's old mentor Paul Pasqualoni served as the match-maker (Reid was on Pasqualoni's final Syracuse staff). I don't know what he would be like as a recruiter, but Reid can clearly take the talent we have and keep it as a functional, effective unit.

Jim Reid has a very good history with developing strong and aggressive defenses...age has nothing to do with it

could also be Daz know he has to win next year. Reid seems like a great coach for next year, and worry about age (if that's a worry) later.

In my opinion the difference between Tranq and Reid is that Tranq had retired multiple times prior to BC. Reid hasn't been out of the game or recruiting yet.

With the foundation laid by Brown, this won't be difficult. What about the "big headache" of the offense?

it really does feel like a Tranq hiring. I dont know that 1994 BC defense is much of a reference point (that was over 20 years ago).

Doesnt seem like hes much of a recruiter

Also doesnt sound like they are going to make any coaching changes on offense? - is that fair to assume at this point?

so far this is all seems like a dazaster

I certainly know that Jim Reid has extensive experience and have no problem with his age. However, the primary major concern IMHO is on the offensive side of the ball - Who is the Offensive Co-ordinator - Fitch or Addazio ??? - or a combination of both which will lead to the same chaotic scenarios as this past year. And are we pursuing the same run, run, and pass on third down philosophy as Addazio has embraced in his past history. IT DOES NOT WORK !!!!! My attitude is far from being optimistic for next year despite some talent on the offensive side of the ball -reason being - who will direct this effort and give this offensive group the tools (game plan)to succeed . By the way, is Wagner going to be on our schedule ??? We should win a number of games with the OOC schedule !! Happy New Year !!!

Reid will be good. Al Washington provides the talent and Jim gets them in the right position.

Tommie C is gone from the Giants today. I think that we are all waiting to see if Bates heads to the far north. If he does, then you bring in Coughlin as an interim AD.
