This recruiting class is critical because it is the first coming off a losing Addazio season and it is the first with the new staff. Getting these two guys early is a good sign and hopefully just the start of verbals to the program.

Recruiting picks up
The 2017 Football recruiting class just got bigger. Addazio and company picked up verbal commitments from New York Tight End Devan Lawson and Maryland Running Back Travis Levy. Of the two, Levy carries the higher rating and the better offer list. But Lawson comes from a productive area (Rockland County, NY) and has the type of body and skills that can be slotted for a Tight End but moved to another position if needed.

You're the MAC of posters. We do indeed need to aim higher.
Shocker of the millennium, mod rushes to the interweb to be the first one to whine on another ATL post. Not to mention, you're completely wrong, Levy is anything but a MAC level recruit. It's also March, I'm sure since you're lazy and only look at Rivals, your opinion will change once Georgia Tech offers and he gets a ratings bump.
the running back looks good. the TE had one other offer from Buffalo.
i'm with Mod - i'm not sure why we aren't aiming higher, especially at RB. Andre Williams was in the Heisman ceremony, Hilliman was all-acc freshmen team, and we run the ball more than basically everyone but georgia tech - why aren't we able to land some legitimate 4*'s or at least talk to them.

There are only about 300 4 star players. Pretty much all of them are gone once you get past the top 25. There are 3 times as many 3 stars, that's where we will have to do our homework, and recruit hard those kids who fit our system best.
Read also that we picked up a DE (Kwity Paye)out of Bishop Hendricken in Warwick, RI (school of Will Blackmon and David Emma). Kid had offers from BYU and Toledo.
Looking at the issue from a Wall Street Journal perspective, if you build it, they will come. Towles is coming because he saw what Murphy did. Most very good recruits want a shot at going pro. From that perspective, Tom Coughlin was a very good spokesman for BC. Addazio came in preaching that idea. So far, it has all been "chirp". He has his chance next year with a very good staff structure. If he pulls a "rabbit out of a hat", then more power to him. Let's put the guns back under the bed until at least October.
Recruits use BC as a placeholder, to be sure that they have spot while they seek out better ones. We've especially seen this with select Massachusetts recruits. Daz needs to use this to his advantage so he can land in Bristol next January with the best possible negotiating leverage.
Since nobody can lose in the spring, he can create positive rumors and press coverage about his "two elite QBs", Wade and Towles. One was injured, the other miscoached (according to the story). He has his agent and PR person put out the word that BC would have gone back to a bowl last year if Wade hadn't gotten hurt, and with two top QBs a comeback is assured. Obviously this is nonsense; both are JAGs. But the national media and the rest of the shallow media types need to fill space during the spring and summer, and so they'll regurgitate this line and nobody will know the difference until the ACC schedule starts.
Then by August he needs to generate a Top-15 class on paper, based on leaked verbals. That will generate amazing press as "verbal" after "verbal" rolls in. Now, you'll say, that's nonsense, there's NO WAY he's getting a top-15 class.
Ah, but this is where the "safety" factor comes into play. Daz doesn't need a real commitment, because he knows he'll be gone by this September (stand by). He just needs a bunch of elite guys to make the ultimate in soft commitments to BC, while making clear to the Ohio States and Clemsons that of course the "verbal" is nonsense. Since this will all be done by September, there's no harm, no foul. All the "verbals" will still get to go to Columbus and Tallahassee and Athens for visits right through the fall.
But then doesn't it kill Daz to have his recruiting class vaporize in September? No, not if he vaporizes it "on principle". See, Daz knows he can't cut it. Daz knows Spaz was SO incompetent that by accident he was able to win games the first two years, just because of God-awful coaching before he arrived. Daz knows Temple went into the Top-20 after they had a losing season in his last year--showing he was the problem rather than the solution. Daz saw he couldn't win one ACC game with an elite defense, because he couldn't make any adjustments for the loss of his QB. And Daz knows he can't deliver on the promise of the new offensive assistants and the "remodeled offense" and the "Jim Reid" defense and whatnot.
So he needs to go the JOB route. He needs to claim that BC ADMISSIONS got in the way, because they are RACIST!!! He "stands for principle" in the face of these awful RACISTS interfering with his program, with his effort to mold young men. He screams that he will stick with the program because he loves the kids he has, but by golly he can't stand by and let the dreams of his recruits (who he can't name, of course) be sullied because Admissions has completely over-the-top, random standards that nobody can meet.
This way, he runs to the media with a "poor me" story, without actually quitting the job. BC of course has no use for the awful publicity, so they cut him loose and maintain most of his salary. Daz then makes the sports radio and podcast circuit through the fall, badmouthing BC at every turn. The media laps it up, while Daz raises his profile as a "tell it like it is" type of guy. The WWL sees another Madden in the making, and hires him on to replace Corso on Gameday. That means Daz collects full freight on "two" jobs, since the ESPN salary doesn't offset the BC settlement since Daz is no longer in coaching.
As Simmons says, "who says no?" (beyond BC, who doesn't count).
Hoib - i appreciate that. i don't follow what you mean by "pretty much all of them are gone" - its March, there are plenty of players who have not committed:
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/rn300jr/sort/rank/class/2017
we have offers out to four RBs with 4* ratings (i'm including AJ Dillon as a 4 star because he'll get bumped up whenever he commits, assuming he doesn't commit to BC):
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/103/class/2017/page/offers
when it is this early in the process it would be nice to be a bit more selective. every year with Addazio it seems like we have jumped on a handful of players who have no other D1 offers. the recruiting from Addazio, a supposed recruiting guru for Florida dynasty teams, is underwhelming to say the least.
El Miz mentioned A.J.Dillon who is a 4 star out of Lawrence Academy. He is big and fast -6'1" -230lbs and there is another young man from Andover who plays at Proctor Academy who is highly rated . I believe that his name is Alexander Marshall(Tight End) - 6'7" 240lbs.We must be able to sign at least a few of these highly regarded local kids !!!! We can not lose all of these "TOP NOTCH" local kids to the "Penn States and Stanfords as we did last year. " etc. Addazio had stated that it was his intention to tie a "Rope" around Mass and New England and not let the top notch talent to sign elsewhere. This is the year that his statement must become reality !!

What I mean is they are out of our reach. Look at this years team recruiting rankings to see how many 4 star guys got picked up below the #25 ranked team. I understand it can be a bit of a catch 22, but virtually all the recruits at that ranking go to the big powers.
Yeah - can't say I have been impressed with Daz's recruiting so far (not sure why hes getting a rep for being good at it) -- not that I care or even understand the star system very well (i.e. does a guy who commits to BC early suffer in system cause then he isnt talking to better schools?) -- but the results on the field has shown he hasn't done anything special as far as recruiting yet.
He will have next year to prove the naysayers wrong.
Mod _ i will say i think you are being a little harsh on Daz for his comments on Xtian --- Did you really expect him to say anything different? - would it even be appropriate for him to say something different (i.e xtian stinks and should be fired)
31 non FSU & CU 4 star divide by 12 teams that's 2.5 per team. How many of those 31 could be admitted to BC assuming they want to go? As I said the game for us is at the 3 star level.
