RING THAT VICTORY BELL! BC upsets NC State for first ACC win in two seasons!

It wasn't perfect nor pretty, but who cares? BC won an ACC game! The same issues abound, but BC overcame them with a great defensive performance and a few key plays. Kam Moore sealed the win with a huge INT on NC State's last drive.

For those wanting Daz gone, this doesn't help your cause. BC now has a very winnable game against UConn that would lift the team to five wins. Five wins remains the true grey area in the "stay or go" debate. And if he pulls off another win at Wake or an upset somewhere else, he is clearly staying. But don't worry about that for now. Celebrate the win. It has to feel good for the players.

I will have second viewing thoughts and grades up late Sunday.

Post-game Periscope

Speaking of neither perfect nor pretty, I did another post-game periscope. I apologize for the hasty nature and my rec soccer dad coaching gear, but that is how I roll on Saturdays! Feedback always appreciated. It seems like the night-time Periscopes get better participation. Let me know if I should try a Prime Time one this week. Maybe 10 pm ET on Thursday?

You certainly have to "give the devil his due". Pasqualoni called the defensive signals and was outstanding. The half back pass brought back memories of Frank Gifford sans Kathy Lee.

Agreed. PP should call plays from hear on out.

In today's college football, to hold a team to 14 points is impressive. That just isn't done these days.

A victory!!!! Yay! Go BC!

700 days or 100 weeks (such numerologically pure numbers!) of agony between last ACC win on November 29, 2014 and today

interestingly -- and forgive me jesuits if this is heretical - but 700 is a number associated with the Phoenix and resurrection: "According to Peignot, it is the symbol of the Resurrection as an image of the Phoenix, this mythological bird that, once burnt, reappeared of its ashes. In Greek, the numerical value of Phoenix, FOINIX, gives indeed 700 = 500+70+10+50+10+60.
hurrah. "

and a possible bowl game if we beat Wake and UConn... doable!

BC always perform well when no one expects it; especially us. Phenomenal job all around. About time!!!!!!!

Nice win.

The tactical decisions in the Syracuse game were egregious though. Dazzler would have to beat Wake and UCONN to keep his job, if we had an AD. Since we don't he gets a pass this season and will be the head coach next season.

The QB situation next season will be interesting. Ultimately the quality of the QB next season determines if Dazzler is around long-term, there is no way he starts Wade or Brown next season with his ass on the line. Look for another transfer.

The narrative changes after one win? Come on.

CT:

The narrative has to change a little. Addazio's offense is not good. He's not a good game manager. But if he wins six games, he is safe. At 6-6 BC goes bowling and we are not firing a .500 coach. We just aren't.

Any win is a good win.

We're at that point.

Propers to the OC.

If Wade can't beat out Towles, I mean, yikes?

Congrats to coaches and players. BC threw the ball 34 times for over 200 yards. Where has that approach been the last two years. If you only throw it 20 times a game the QB and receivers look rusty. Sweeney and Walker looked good. The D shut down the run. Hope we see more of the same Saturday. 2. Is it really a compelling argument that if the HC gets to five wins he stays? Averaging four wins over a two year period is acceptable coaching? Daz's record his first three years at BC was 17-21. The coach at NCST. was 18-20. They are both 4-4 this year with losses in the future. Has either done well or are they both on the hot seat?

Ned & CT - yes kinda scary that suddenly with 1 win, everything changes.... If NCSU did not throw bone-head pic in end zone, we likely wold be having a different conversation today. But football is all about strange little twists and turns...

UConn looks bad so 5-7 seems posisble. Wake looks like they are not so good eitehr - losing to Army....we could go 2-6 in ACC and 6-6 overall and go to bad bowl

and that makes Daz safe... nuts...

The big positive yesterday is that Daz seems to have let PAsq completely run the D.. and it showed...

and Daz seems to have completely let Loeffler run the O and it showed....

So, it is possible that Daz knows the Daz-Way is the wrong way and is doing something new - very hard to believe....but the team looked different yesterday, and looked pretty good, compared to last 2 years..

If no move to fire Bates is made before end of school year (which is likely), Daz is likely safe no matter how he finishes out. Too hard to hire a new AD & bring a new head coach in before start of 2017 season.

That is, of course, moot if we were able to hire a certain candidate for AD who could also serve as head coach for football for a year or two........

TC for AD and HC in 2017

Three additional points:
1) This game was won because Sweeney and Walker caught passes(mostly Sweeney). Callinan still sucks like I said 3 months ago. I foresee Jeff Smith edging Callinan off the field going forward.

2) The second NC State touchdown was a complete unequivocal home job. So I take seven off the board for "the pack" when I look at the final score.

3) The offensive line is so bad pass blocking sometimes that there are "natural" screen passes available when Towles drops back to pass. Loeffler could use that to his advantage.

Coaching on both sides of the ball was very good. The pressure "D" employed by PP was very effective and should have been used against Syracuse. Must give credit also to Loeffler for creativity (it ,however, kills me to do so). They will probably go 6-6 which will get the "Cement Bowl" and Daz will think he is a genius and next year he will predict that he will guide BC to the ACC Championship game. My thoughts about the situation has not changed , however. Blow it up , but I am happy for the young men who have worked so hard representing BC. NCST should fire their OC for his play calling with 1st and goal at the 2 yd. line. Two rushes into the middle which had not worked all day. There are so many incompetents in the College and Pro ranks coaching today - it is shocking !!! If you have a young son who has any interest in this field , encourage him to pursue his dream !!!!

@knucklehead: Does look like another transfer.

Better than even odds we beat UConn - but not a slam dunk. About even odds we beat Wake. No chance vs. Louisville or FSU absent a miracle. Extremely happy for the win and for the BC kids (players and student fans). As it had become desperation time - the staff finally threw out the Daz play book, took some risks and tried to surprise the defense with something unexpected and it worked. The other reason we won was plain dumb luck - especially on the last series of downs for NCS and a gift wrapped interception. Of course, any talk about a bowl seems ludicrous when you consider the first 3 wins and the "quality" of the 4 losses. In any event - Daz gets another year and I hope he is successful. But please - Bates has to go.

Do Wagner, Umass and Buffalo really count as wins?!

Geezer eagle said...

Not Wagner. Total travesty.

wagner counts toward the 6 wins needed for bowl eligibility
