Here are a few of the stops for Addazio (and based on social media, it seems like Washington, White, Campanile and Gunnell are also out on the road).
Big thanks to Boston College Head Coach @BCCoachAddazio and @BCCoachGunnell for stopping by Sherwood today.@BCFootball pic.twitter.com/foft25QD0H— Chris Grier (@CoachGrier) November 30, 2016
Boston College football coach Steve Addazio just stopped by to see Paramus Catholic at practice today.— Varsity Aces (@VarsityAces) November 29, 2016
The timing of all of this works well too. Addazio is out there selling "we're going bowling and things are just getting better." If you are reading this blog, you have watched more BC Football this season than most high school coaches. If you are reading this blog, you have probably watched more BC Football than most BC recruits. They just aren't paying attention like we do, so when the BC coaches show up smiling and talking about the big win, the recruits and high school coaches don't worry about the ugly losses earlier in the year. As we all know, perception still matters in college football.
Now some of Addazio's critics are think his recruiting has gone down as he's been at BC. I don't fault him in that area. While the third party rankings may not be as high, I do think there is more depth and overall talent each year. And hitting the road like he is should pay off this year and next.

With all this "success", hopefully the Jets come calling soon.
This is prime recruiting time. The season is over. This is his job.
No, not a big deal.
Prepping to play whom? Nothing has been finalized.
I think there may be a misunderstanding here.
ATL. - I guess as a blog writer you need to keep good relations with your sources by writing laudatory pieces like this one, the 'OL puff piece
but seriously? what about your readers ? you are now serving up nauseating Pro-Daz propaganda.

Have your watched our OL get obliterated by ACC talent in every game? Did you notice our DBs lacked foot speed against the ACC opponents? Have you thought about the talent of the 10 QBs Daz recruited? Omg When I watched Rudolf the Red nose reindeer the other night and the island of misfits, I thought of our WR who can't catch a football. At one point I think BC lead the nation in drops. You can't see the recruiting disaster?
Why did Daz produce in one year 4 of the worst losses in BC history. Obviously the talent ain't there. And look st the competing offers our recruits have ...lots of MAC and FBS offers. We can't even compete for ACC recruits. Heck, getting a 3-star is hard for Daz
Daz should hit the road for good.
Ps. Our recruiting ranks put us last in ACC this year and last year.
Right on, Mod. ATL, PLEASE stop being a Daz lap dog. It's no longer amusing.
ATLEagle,
You shooting the position of top PR spokesperson for The Gym Teacher? A shameful piece.
This is getting intolerable. Are you on the payroll? He is doing his job. Not well but he is getting paid ~$2.5 mm so a few pics on social media should help him justify 2 conference wins in 2 years and producing a laughing stock of a program. Iowa State dishes on us. People want us booted from the conference. And btw, he can't coach and he doesn't prep so no sense in staying back at BC. It's not like he is going game plan out a strategy to get our throw game going or something. He is a big bully meat head with little going on upstairs. I appreciate his enthusiasm from time to time but we don't need a cheerleader, we need a coach.
Glad to see that Addazio is out there trying to do his job. But that's a given (you hope) for the money he is being paid. The BC base expects hard work - but its meaningless until it pays off.
I happened across the 1994 Aloha Bowl on You Tube the other day and watched the 1st half. The talent disparity between 22 years ago and today is absolutely staggering. Our O line was huge, physical and downright nasty. We had the best TE and pass rushing DE in the country. Decent speed and athleticism at the skill positions in the defensive secondary. Ball hawking, intense linebackers. We looked like a very legit Top 20 team from top to bottom.
Would have annihilated any BC team of the last 6 years.
did any Freshman this year make a meaningful contribution?
if you're gonna get paid over 2 million bucks to coach football this seems like something you should be doing.
I am baffled by this article
49-0
56-10
52-7
45-7
2-14 in acc play over the last two years
Talent very obviously a problem (one of many)
Coach daz per Michael Sullivan in post game - "Addazio lauds his "no-name" team. No Andre Williams or Tyler Murphy on this roster. Full team effort."" -- This is year 4 - daz doesnt even think hes done a good job recruiting.
Is ATL angling for a spot on the payroll next to that BCI guy?
@Napoleon has it right. The Dazzler obviously does not have the skill set to be a head coach. There is just an intangible that he does not have. He worked with Timmy T in an offense that you give the 260 pounder the ball and let him run with it. You saw how that worked in the pros. Daz tried the same scheme with a 190 pound qb and after a broken ankle, you saw how that worked out. You saw how he brought in Murphy and let him run with it. He then brought in a 6 ft 5, 250 lb, Towles and wouldn't let him run with it. He wanted Hilliman to run with it in a "three yards and a cloud of dust" mentality. He doesn't know how to run a dynamic offense because he says that he doesn't have the horses. I say that he doesn't know how. Jags says that he had the same type of player and produced and I say that he is right. Matt Ryan came out of the same environment at 6 ft 4. BC needs a dynamic coach and if they don't bring in TC to "sweep out the mess" as interim AD or someone like him, BC may soon be playing North Dakota State for the NCAA championship not in hockey but in football and not in D-1.
BB - scary... i was thinking the exact same thing. Ha!!!
ATL maybe jealous of THIS
Rubin was BCI's biggest homer and, to my surprise, it paid off. He is in homer heaven now serving up the yum-yums for Bates and Daz! "thank you Dan," they always say, "you're such a good boy."
Maybe ATL is thinking of getting the AD job?? Heck he might be a good choice! #ATL4AD
or maybe Daz's criticism of bloggers has shaken the normally implacable ATL
I think the issue in ATL's post was that he did not find fault in Daz's recruiting. He should have been more specific to say that he did not find fault with his efforts, since Daz is putting in the time, but that his results have been unacceptably poor.
I do appreciate ATL's updates, as it is good to hear what is happening, and he is certainly entitled to his opinions and spin just as all the commentators are as well. ATL tends to be hopeful and positive, while others are not, but at the end of the day it is his blog.
ATL, you have been excoriated for your defense of Daz. Dont you even care to defend your flawed logic?
Bottom line is Daz can do nothing right according to all the experts here. He makes a bowl game with this "weak' schedule and he sucks. If he doesn't make a bowl game with this "weak" schedule, he sucks. If he doesn't beat Clemson and Louisville on a regular basis he sucks. I would love some of these players that all you turds routinely call worthless and weak to get two minutes with you so you can see how pathetic they are. They would rip your head off. But hey, according to you they suck and aren't worthy of wearing "your" alma maters colors. Seriously?? Get a life! Go root for another team because you suck as fans. You offer no support to the staff, the players, nobody so what's the point? If somebody happens to write something remotely positive about a player or a coach or anything related to the football program the black cloud reappears and you bash them to death cause god forbid anyone say something positive. They beat Wake and NC State but of course that isn't good enough but God knows if they lost those games you would have lost your minds! It's never good enough for you all unless BC is ranked #1 and is the best in the country..that being said, find another team and take your black cloud of negativity somewhere else..
Well crap Rei, should no one be held accountable for the abysmal failure of the football program and the athletic department in general? I don't hold it against the players for the state of the program, and most people here don't either. Most players have actually received praise for winning despite Daz's incompetence and for sticking around and giving 100% effort during these past dark and gloomy years. That said, why should the guy in charge of the football program and the guy in charge of the athletic department not be held accountable? If they were CEOs at any company, they'd have been given the boot a long time ago.
P.S., I wish there was an edit option for your posted comments.
Rei - Can you show us the way and please list the top 10 list of "positives" about Daz's results at BC?
Absolutely Bravesbill people should be held accountable but the constant whining and bashing of anything and everything involved with the program is tired and old. You may not hold it against the players but plenty of people on this blog do, routinely saying that they are not worthy of playing at this level and they are no good. If you bash the recruiting of Daz then you by default are saying the players suck no? Some of the comments here directed towards the players have been disgusting. Of course the Coach and AD should be held accountable and there is plenty to hold them accountable for but at the same time if this is your team and you call yourself a fan then at a certain point people need to get behind them do you not agree? The fact that people still complain after they beat Wake is a joke. That was a great win whether or not it was the picture perfect performance some fans routinely expect. Bottom line is they found a way to win. They won two more ACC games than they did last year, is that in itself not an improvement? I'm not saying the program should hang their hat on those two victories and there is still much improvement needed but it's an improvement. If they win this bowl game they finish 7-6 is that not better than where they finished last year?
what is your definition of a successful year that meets your expectations mod? Please explain.....
I am psyched they won 6 games this year. They clearly should have won 7, GT. The Syracuse game was an abomination from coaches to players. Two weeks to prepare for your nemesis, at home, their fucking QB suplexes your DB on the sideline out of bounds and there is isn't an allout bench clearing brawl. That as all I needed to see to know the mentality of the team(coaches players etc). They are good kids but we need more football players. A lot of them are tough as nails but that was bullshit was Syracuse did. Remember Al Washington skull fuck Brad Butler after he cheap shotted Kiwi? That is how a football team responds to bullshit.
I don't see things trending in a positive direction.Milano and Gutapfel are big losses for this team next season. The offense is not good now and won't be next season. The kicking game was good and will be good because Al Washington is coaching it.
Irony is you have Special Teams coach of the year on a team with one of the worst headcoaches in college sports.
I think Dazzler is good person but again we need more football players. He isn't your local congressman. He is head fucking football coach.
Reid,
The offensive line sucks. They do not belong starting on the BC line. Backups fine. They are not talented enough to be starters. That is their fault and the coaches fault.
rei - i knew your would whiff on listing positives.
A successful year for BC football is at minimum a winning ACC record and at least 8-4 overall with decent OOC opponents. A decent bowl and a competitive game. Ranked in top 20 or least within sniffing distance.
... and not more than one loss by more than 14 points... (one WTF game only)
Knuckle I agree with you on the Syracuse game, that was really bad. Again, I by no means am arguing things are perfect but we are 6-6 and going to a bowl. Now we can argue till the cows come home about beating patsies, etc but this is where we stand and if I remember correctly we were nowhere near a bowl last year. The team easily could have packed it in this year and threw the season away but they didn't and keep fighting and scrapping to pull out a victory at Wake...one that most of us probably thought they would lose agreed? Amongst the negative there is some positive and contrary to what everyone wants to believe there is some young talent on this team...QB and O line, just like this year, will be a big factor....
I will get back to you on the positives...it's a long list mod, gonna take me awhile to put together...
That is what I said. I am psyched they won 6 games. They reached their goal(no sarcasm). Could you imagine what their record would be with an average offense and some football mentality? The offense is easily repairable. Sign a few good o-lineman who don't need coaching. Or fire Frye who has not developed 1 single o-lineman in the last 3 years - his players.
A line gives Towles confidence to stand in the pocket or know where the running lanes are going to be so he doesn't have read the rush every fucking play. It makes the RB's better for the same reason.
And then sign 1-2 animals who can lead the team. I don't see any leadership on the field especially from the offense. No outward football mentality.
Back to Syracuse. That game would have gotten someone in a high coaching level fired at any other Power 5 school in America. On every single level it was a disgrace.
REI the weasel.... so predictable..
ReiDaDor -I think I questioned Mod prior to the season what he thought success would be this year - and i think we both and others on this blog said somewhere along 8 wins given the current schedule
People on this blog aren't currently just changing their mind and complaining cause nothing is good enough - we had expectations that were not met.
And beyond not meeting such expectations expected 4 of the worst losses in BC football history
and as far as the players are concerned - no one throws them under the bus more than Daz himself
Washington has nothing to do with kicking success or lack of success right.
Kicking coaches are very specialized and generally run private programs outside of collegiate programs.
Al is more responsible for kick coverage/returns, outside of that he has little effect on the success of knoll.
Seems to me that meeting expectations would be a winning record 7-5 with a 4-4 ACC record and 3-1 OOC record assuming they schedule a stretch/interesting OOC game such as ND, USC, Penn State, etc. Clearly doing better than that would be welcome.
By this standard BC performed below expectations but admittedly did better than last year and for that I am happy. That said players, coaches and fans should expect more, particularly given the lopsided blowouts this year. A bowl win would go a long way towards the idea of "progress" versus a year ago.
Rei, criticizing the recruiting of Daz is not blaming the players. Daz does not and has not recruited P5 caliber players for the most part, which is a significant cause of BC's decline. And even if one were to blame the players, why does that make you a bad fan?
@Bravesbill: To expand on your point, Jags said that he recruited the same type of player as does Daz. He was able to win because he had that intangible magnetism that defines success. Jags had the same profile as did Ara Parseghian. Daz was the offensive coordinator on a national championship run at Florida with Tim Tebow. The emphasis is that he was not the head coach. Urban Meyer had the intangibles. He won the championship. Daz was just along for the ride. Just like Spaz who was a great d.c., Addazio was a great o.c. He is just not head coaching material. Paying him 2.6 million per for eight years does not make it so. He was floundering at Temple. His offense of "play not to lose" and "keep the game close" belies the enthusiasm generated by Jags. "Reidador" has no clue to what makes a successful and imaginative program which generates enthusiasm and positive vibes. Jags is the o.c. on a nowhere program at Georgia State. They went to Wisconsin and lost by six.
These recruits might love Daz's enthusiasm until they type into google "Boston College Football Blog" and hit "comments section" and then they see the shiz-storm on this site, BCI, EagleOutsider, etc. So I'd like to formally welcome all recruits who are immediately pulling a 180, as they should.
I understand that people were underwhelmed by this season but as ugly as it was at times it was an improvement from last year. Bravesbill I'm not only talking about criticizing the recruiting of Daz. Go back and read old posts and you will find plenty comments made by people here absolutely degrading and ridiculing the players saying they are not worthy, untalented and gutless. I'm not making it up, it's there if you want to go find it. To me, that's unacceptable.
I wouldn't say "gutless", that's just mean. But untalented and not worthy? Sure.
Rei-La-La -- you are making shit up now..... "degrading and ridiculing the players" please
and where's your list of positives. I'll start the list for you..
1. Pathetic 2016 season with 4 historic blowouts was better than 0-ACC 2015
2. [to be added by no-follow-through-millennial Rei-La-la]
Peanut - if recruits are making decisions about their career from some pissant BC blogs, they are stupid and need some adult supervision.. Blog-turn-off does not happen....
If the future players think BC blogs are bad, wait until they see the blogs that cover the big and successful programs.
I definitely wish BC had a football/basketball coach or AD like this. Would be such a breath of fresh air. https://www.facebook.com/MyCN2Sports/videos/1331698613541637/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED
TC talked about the 1994 Aloha Bowl at 10:16am post.
Well, also check out the 1994 Season Opening Game at Michigan in front of a full house. We had a brand new Head Coach and probably many new on staff - and a brand new, untested Quarterback from Brockton, MA.
Check out the first play. We ultimately lost, but Michigan was scared to death for the entire game as BC went ahead 12 to 0.
This was BC "Pro-Style" Football. Whatever we are watching now is a whole different deal.
When I attended our first game at Clemson as a member of the ACC I wasn't worried. I didn't know if we would win, but I knew we would compete and that Clemson would know that our Pro-Style offense would make them sore all week.
BC football can't play that way now, but we pretend that we can.
It's baffling. Our line isn't much bigger than our guys in 1994, and no where near what we had 10 years ago.
Thanks ATL for giving us a forum.
I will never boo or personally disparage a college athlete. BJK's 4th and 5th paragraph says it all.
Honestly I couldn't care less if BC losses in the Continental Toilet Bowl this year, Addazio needs to focus on building a team for next year. Nothing has been more embarrassing then losing by 40 points every time we play a top ACC opponent. I want to see BC land a few 4* recruits at the very least, haven't seen BC land a 5* recruit in over a decade. I believe Brian Toal was the last 5* recruit BC landed. I guess in reality stars don't matter however it would be nice if BC could at least compete in the ACC again.
When you lose, you don't deserve support from the fan base; thought that would be obvious.
BC shouldn't be losing by over 40 points against top ACC opponents. An 8-4 record was expected this year, anything worse was a disappointment. If BC beat GT and Syracuse, I would've considered it a successful season. However BC barely made a crappy bowl game with the easiest schedule of any power 5 conference team in the nation.
I don't think the team improved from last year. In fact I think we regressed. Yes we won more games, but if you look at the product on the field it's abysmal.
It's some of the worst football I have ever watched. Our two best wins were shit show games. At wake we were dominated in every statistical category and - by a miracle - won the game. I don't view that as an improvement.
Remove all wins and losses and all stats, bottoms line is that the product is horrible. It's not fun to watch and the game plan puts our athletes in a position to lose. I don't blame any of the kids at all for this. I blame the leadership.
Well stated, Jerz and Chris.
Mod..I think anyone that thinks a recruit is going to base his decision on what a bunch of no nothing blowhards say on a blog is a joke in itself. It's nice though that you think a recruit would actually care about what you say though..some positives..
1. Their record improved from last year
2. They made a bowl which didn't happen last year
3. Jeff Smith converted nicely to WR and improved as the year went on
4. Other younger WR' s also improved over the course of the year
5. Identified some younger talent on defense that got a solid year of experience and will be back better, stronger, faster next year
6. Finally found somebody that can consistently kick a football through the uprights
7. Won 2 ACC games (won zero last year)
Those are a few positives but I know that is nowhere near what you want. We aren't consistently out recruiting and beating Alabama, OSU and Clemson every year so go ahead and fire away about what a joke the program is..maybe someday your dreamworld might become a reality!
