There are probably many Patriot fans reading this blog who think Tom Brady should be the NFL Most Valuable Player. Brady is great, but Ryan has been the best QB in football this season and leader of the NFL's most prolific offense.
I don't have a say, but here are some other people weighing in:
CBS: Matt Ryan lock for MVP?
Mike Florio: One key stat favors Matt Ryan for MVP
Football Outsiders: Matt Ryan Is the 2016 NFL MVP
Here's a list of QBs with a higher yards per attempt than Matt Ryan since 2000:— HSAC (@Harvard_Sports) January 2, 2017
Kurt Warner, 2000 (Greatest Show on Turf)
That's it.
Why should any BC fan really care about who wins an NFL award? Aside from Matt being a passionate BC supporter, Matt winning helps BC. In the past 20 years -- even when we reached No. 2 -- there is always a perception and narrative problem with BC. We are nice little underdogs, but never elite. Matt has been shaking that perception too since he entered the NFL. Winning the NFL's top prize changes that perception for him and indirectly for BC.
BC produces great players. It would be nice for that to be recognized.

go matt!
Matt is a perfect example that traditional , pro-style, pocket passers can still win. But Daz is a trend follower and dual-threat QBs are all the rage.
or in Daz's offense, zero-threat QBs
If BC wants to turn it around, recruit a clone of USCs QB.
I remember when BC games were as fun to watch as tonight's Rose Bowl. sigh
Tonight's game along with Michagen-FSU were far more exciting than the playoffs.
Darnold is ridiculously good and he's only a redshirt freshman. And boy did Franklin Daz that game away.
Agree BB. Bad ending for PSU. Even with Saquon Barkley you can't run out the clock. A first down was all they needed.
The combo of USC OL (time) WR (ultra speed size) and QB (poise and Uber accuracy) was amazing. James Franklin had to know it too.
One successful 1st down with play action and PSU wins.
An arm combined with the ability to see multiple receivers and quickly release = a lot of money. That's what the great ones can do and Ryan falls into that category. Hope he wins it as he is having a terrific season.
Mod, the sad thing was that Franklin Dazzed it away in PSUs last two possessions. He called nothing but runs when USC was selling out for the run and bringing 8-9 into the box. Barkley really had no chance. 1 play action pass would have sealed the deal.
Good luck to Matt Ryan. Hope he wins. Did Daz really try to help OSU prepare for the Clemson game? If so he was working against the best interests of the ACC and BC. Is he the Kim Philby of the conference? Has that activity violated his contract? Is his aiding, assisting or encouraging Meyer in defeating the ACC champ and depriving the ACC of the national title game money a loyal act? Is his conduct comparable to the Wake Forrest announcer undermining his program? Shouldn't Daz be fired for cause? If Bates were bold enough to do so and then hire Chip Kelly he would be a hero. He would deserve an extension. No buyout would be required in that scenario. 2. The SEC record in bowl games is 6-6. It should be 5-7 but Miss. St. was able to block a field goal and defeat a powerful 6-6 MAC team by one point. As Bob Stoops says don't believe the propaganda.
If bc wants to get better it needs USC's o-lineman. The QB is unreal but our problem is o-line.
PSU got a first down, then USC stopped them/used TO's. Franklin didn't throw on the 2nd to last drive for a reason. You saw why on the last drive. Plus the RB is his best player so why take it out of his hands.
The only reasonable argument against Franklin is that he didn't play for it on the last drive. He could have ran clock, calmed the team down and reset the game(it worked in the 1st half). I wouldn't have done that but based on the outcome that is the only gripe to have with Franklin.
Frankly, if the USC kicker didn't miss 2 fg's, the tipped passes in the 3rd Q didn't lead directly to TD's for PSU the game would have been a blowout.
Let's say the kicker hits 2/3 and they get 1 TD from tipped passes instead of 2. That is 10 pts and realistically 17.
Game was not lost by FRanklin.
Plus, he did the opposite of dazzler on the last drive and threw the ball. Your argument is irrational.
There are some serious daddy issues when it comes to headcoach with slot of you-all.
The field was pretty for a rosebowl. cut grass to low.
Field was pretty shotty
Did not play for OT. Freaking auto correct on the phones sucks.
oh knuckle... daddy issue? maybe you are talking about yourself... dumb
But back to football. USC was the dominant offense. Everyone knew that if USC got the ball back, they could score quickly and would take chances. USC's offense was much better than PSU's defense.
everyone knew that if USC got to OT, USC would likely win.
with 2 minutes left, PSU had to get a First down. This is was their best opportunity to win. Then and there. That was the opportunity. They played conservative. and that backfired.
on the last series, they threw the ball to get to FG range. They suddenly got brave again (and it back fired). Should have been braver at 2 minutes.
Knuckle, I mistakenly said their last two possessions. In reality, I was referring to their two possessions in the 4th quarter when they were up 14 and then 7. They didn't pass the ball at all. They just tried to run out the clock which you can't do against a potent offense like USC's, hence the Dazzing the game away comment. And I have no problem with Franklin trying to make something happen with that last possession, with McSorley playing well after those two picks in the first quarter. His first down run play was an odd call though. McSorley was clearly to blame on that last possession. You can't throw up two balls like that at the end of a game.
Mod, that is ridiculous. You know you and the other malcontents on here want every coach fired because you cannot stand up to your own papa.
There were two 14 point swings in the game. PSU was knocking out USC players left and right. The field was like Kelly Rink.
Nobody knew what the outcome of that game was going to be until it was over.
Bullshitter.
Knucklehead - the one time I agree with you. BC success starts and ends with o-line ( and d-line). The tradition is there and it is ignored. Nothing but good things happen when a quarterback has time; running backs get yards and the opposing team is looking over their shoulder or getting beat up to the point the 4th quarter is BC time. I hope I am alive long enough to see it again.
TheNFL's top prize is the Lombardi trophy for winning the Superbowl .... not the MVP award. It will be a nice award for MVP, but if we really want something special, the Superbowl is what he and you should wish for (even over an MVP).
knucklehead, you are much flakier than i ever imagined. very weird.
did i say anything about firing PSU's coach? no,i did not because he is an excellent coach. I would believe it was the OC who called the conservative shit at the end.
The true story is simple. Franklin pulled a Dazoshit and went conservative and lost. Sound familiar?
Mod, Bullshit.
Anyone who thinks that throwing the ball 50 yards down field twice with a minute to go and chance to take the game to OT,Both were passes were picked off essentially, needs their head shrunk.
Screwed up thought process.
