Excellent. a bold choice. Jarmond has a lot of upside.

It is a new day on the Heights.

Yay.

I'm sure he has a reasonably good idea of the situation he's walking into, but it'll still be jarring once he's in the seat. For example, going from THE Ohio State and their filled 100k seat stadium to a 1/4 filled 40k seat alumni. He has his work cut out for him but I like the hire and am optimistic. He's seen a major, successful Athletic Dept run from the inside and been a senior participant in its running. Assuming of course this isn't more "fake news", welcome to the Heights, Martin, and I wish you the very best of luck.

I'd really like to think that a guy with so much career potential wouldn't come to BC unless we were serious about improving athletics.

That means spending money.

Pete Thamel of SI reporting it's official. I really like the hire. Jarmond was second in command at Ohio State, so while he might not have had the final say on decisions, he was certainly involved and knows what it takes to run an athletic department. Thamel also notes he was a top candidate for the Syracuse and Mississippi State jobs. I always expect mediocre, safe, low upside choices from BC. I think Jarmond could build something special (as long as he has the support of the administration, which, given the hire, I am optimistic about).

a worthy swing for the fences. the only other AD i liked as much as Jarmond was Jackson the Nova AD, but very happy we are coming away with one of the better (on paper) candidates.

best case scenario is he aces the Christian hire (no way that guy is the HC in 12 months), gets fans back in the seats for football and hoops, raises a lot of $ to improve facilities, maybe aces an Addazio replacement, and then gets hired away in 4-5 years for greener pastures leaving us in far better shape.

This is the most exciting hire at BC in a while. Bates, Donahue, Christian, Spaz and Daz all had very limited upside, and as it turns out, very low floors. Jarmond seems like he has the potential to come in and turn this thing around. I love his youth and his resume. I also love that BC actually made a minority hire.

Don't get me wrong, I don't see BC competing for national championships. I just want to see BC competing and see fans in the seats.

We have fallen so far that the turnaround won't happen overnight, but for the first time in a number of years I am excited to see what is in store for BC athletics.

Ever to Excel!

This is the most significant reason to be optimistic about BC and its commitment to college athletics in a very long time. I'm pleasantly surprised and encouraged.

Another note about Jarmond, he handled scheduling for OSU Football and they play the likes of Texas, TCU, and Oregon in the near future. Perhaps BC's OOC opponents could get a bit of an upgrade?

All about upside.

The knocks about limited experience are true, but still, I'd rather have youth, talent, and drive over a retreat from a mid-major. Past success also does not guarantee future results. He'll have a couple opportunities to put his mark on the program in the next 12-24 months. Let's all wish him the best.

Unfortunately the position we are in makes the job unattractive for a lot quality candidates. This is the most exciting hire we've made in 10 years.

Hopefully this is step one in a renewed commitment to athletics.

Consider making a donation to the Flynn Fund over the next couple weeks to salute the hire and give him the resources he needs to get things in gear. I know I will.

A high-risk, high-reward type of pick. Any outcome is possible-- he could flame out or he could hire the coaches that restore BC to the year-in, year-out top-25 position in football and basketball that we had a decade ago. It's a completely different hire than we've come to expect at BC, and his youth and big-time sports background are refreshing. While he's admittedly risky without a hiring track record, he should have an excellent support network in Gene Smith and his other previous connections. I'm optimistic and excited. Welcome to the Heights, Martin!

I know only time will tell, but this feels immeasurably different from the hires that Legal Eagle mentioned. This is swinging for the fences and re-invigorating on multiple levels.

Welcome to BC, Martin!

Five years from now the BC athletics program will still be as much of a joke as it is right now.

I am frankly amazed that BC actually made a bold move like this. Jarmond's already raised the level of enthusiasm even before his official introduction. I would love to know who whispered in Fr. Leahy's ear.

dixie, sadly the whisperer is probably a bald over-confident loser often found in Alumni stadium.

Daz is alike a cockroach - great survival instincts.... he must have called his buddy urban and got the word....
