Report: Admissions Office reject Hockey's Tolvanen

I can't claim to know the ins and outs of this issue, but according to USHR, incoming freshman Eeli Tolvanen is no longer BC bound. Allegedly it is due to an Admissions issue.
I find it interesting that this news comes just a day after the Football team slipped in a very, very late academic qualifier. You would hope that the school had a consistent policy on athletic admissions. Ultimately we are still a school and trying to keep some semblance of an educational mission with our players. I get it. However, we do need some leeway and the coaches need to know how far they can go.

If he didn't actually finish high school that's one thing. But if it's strictly grades we have an issue here. Yorks kids r never mentioned having academic issues and he needs a little leeway from Admissions sometimes

It could be anything. Did he score well on the SAT/GRE? Was he not issued credentials to attend school in the United States?

The football DT passed the SAT late and BC stuck with him. Not sure there are any real parallels to the hockey case.

Obviously, he is a foreign player who may not mesh with the American education system. Mehdi Abdesmad of football came from an essentially trade school in Montreal. By the way, he did make the field in the NFL and then got hurt. Will this hockey player even want to come to BC since he will be a first round hockey pick?

Get back to what made BC MIH great, Jerry. We don't need these one and done's.

Concentrate in Greater Boston, Massachusetts, New England, New Jersey, rest of the country, etc.

Totally agree with Big Jack. I would rather see BC fail in sports then to be turned into a sports factory.

It could be a TOEFL issue. Grades may not be the problem

Ive seen admissions cases where grades were fine but a questionable TOEFL prevented a candidate from being admissible.

TOEFL?

TOEFL is an English language proficiency test. Just a Google search away!

I barely speak Jersey with a Georgia accent.

The hockey news reports are saying was an issue of not having enough high school credits to have qualified as a high school graduate. I think JBQ has the gist of it...education systems not meshing.

Why Google when you can ask BC alums and wait for an answer?

Damn. Excuse me. I'll never ask again. Tough crowd.
