Addazio should name a starting QB this week

It is almost time. This is the last week of summer camp. Next week is game week. Now is the time to pick a QB. Yet Addazio seems in no hurry.

Wade still remains the favorite for the job. The fact that he hasn't made the competition a slam dunk case is really a half-full/half-empty proposition. It is great that Brown has shown enough promise to make it a tough decision. it is disconcerting that Wade isn't a clear cut choice.

Addazio will decide soon, so you might ask: "what's the rush?" I think this is Addazio's chance to get the team ready and behind one guy. A few extra days will change the mentality around the team.

Plus, there is very little downside to naming a guy now. Whoever gets the No. 2 slot will need to understand that he is only one snap away. The backup needs to buy in. If anything, waiting might just anger the No. 2.

Whoever wins is going to be on a short leash. Addazio needs to win and can't let one guy fall apart when a similar option is on the bench. This season could be a bumpy ride. Let's start to get through those bumps now when there is still time to fix things.

Addazio typically picks the more experienced guy; unless you hear otherwise, just expect Wade to be the starter.

My guess is that he's told the 2 guys and maybe the team, but doesn't want to tip his hand to NIU. Take a look at where the best lineman is playing. If it's at right tackle, then it's probably Wade.

What a surprise another year and still a mess at qb.

If the car has a lousy engine the rest doesn't matter.

Two MAJOR INCOMPETENTS SPAZ - DAZIO

Does no one remember the string of great, very good ,good, great QBs beginning with
Doug FLUTIE and ending with Matt Ryan ???????????

Anne, I don't want to go back to those days if they produce people like you.

@Jeremy Brooks: Your response was uncalled for. Anne is controversial but enthusiastic. Didn't your mother teach you some class?

Imagine Wade's mind set. He's in the game. He sees #75. Lindy lined up in front of him.

Lindy is the @dude" who whiffed and missed sone how a gigantic lineman who smashed Wade and ended his season.

With fear like this, Wade could pull a shinskie and line up under guard for the snap.

Let's hope Lindy has improved - a lot

Lindstrom was a 260 pound true freshman for that Florida State game

@JBQ there is a difference between enthusiastic and obnoxious. Spamming the same thing over and over and every blog crosses that line.

@Jeremy Brooks: I buy your explanation. However, that is what you should have said.

NYCeagle. Any other excuses you'd like offer? One above is BS

How is an undersized, true freshman an excuse? Its bad strategy sure, but a pretty solid explanation.

He's had two years to gain experience and two years to bulk up. Everyone has a bad play in sports. The good athletes learn and move on.

Your entire judgment on a player is based on one play from 2 years ago. A lot of great analysis you did to come to that conclusion

Costanzo was undersized and got tossed around his first year. There is precedent for an undersized lineman to develop.

Good point. I remember he had a tough time at VT. He went on to be a first round draft pick.

Also Matt Ryan didn't fare too well against Syracuse in his first start. Granted the LV Whitworth dropped TD pass didn't help.

I got a sense that Brown was making more big plays in the second half of camp - so you never know. I agree - the choice has been made - and they just want to keep NIU guessing. Not sure it makes a big difference though.

Lindy is no costanzo. Yes that was one bad play, but I've not seen plays to match Daz's soaring rhetoric. Lindy should be motivated to live up to the hype

OL 2017 is the major question mark for the season. There is some reason for optimism. - experience. Weight. Time together. - but to date no real success on the line of scrimmage against any winning ACC program.

Hope this is the year they succeed

BC is rated #70, but #85 by Sagarin.

NIU is rated #101, but #77 by Sagarin.

Go BC - blow them out.

Great insight Section D. As usual.

I wonder if we may see both Wade and Brown take quality snaps this year. I am thinking of a scenario in which the backup is getting one series in each half of games if there isn't actually much separation between the two. Not a fan of this approach.

I don't see a big advantage to keeping NIU guessing about who the starting QB is going to be week 1.

I like that we're being slept on. No added pressure. Just go out there and prove people wrong every week
