Twitter, the message boards and my Periscope were filled with "Addazio safe" talk. This game certainly helps that cause. I don't know how the season will play out and don't take back what I wrote after the Virginia Tech loss, but he is starting to look safe. Win two more and he is coming back. But I am not going to focus on that. Instead I want to enjoy BC winning and playing exciting football.
I will have second viewing thoughts and grades up late Sunday.
The post-game Periscope is below.

Daz was an excellent coach today.
Daz was an excellent coach last week
Let's hope this continues and not worry about firing a guy on a roll.
Very happy for team and coaches today.
T'was BC football like it should be.
And yes it was a beautiful thing
Who were these guys today? I sat on my couch completely stunned. I'm actually starting to think they have a chance against Florida State.
Ever to be mediocre. I dislike Daz because he has gotten me to not care about BC. He will do just enough to go 5-7 or 6-6. School will be stuck with him. Two exciting wins in back to back weeks and I didn’t even bother to turn on the game.
Well it was a good game
And now Florida State is a game of interest.
Enjoy it
Rich. You are right on the money. Will be watching Friday. Will see what we are. I hope it continues to be “Beautiful”
Section D, Wrong. Dazzler didn't improve the last two weeks. The team is doing the same things it has for years. There was nothing new except everyone played well on offense for the entire game(Execution of plays is the players responsibility-especially now that we see they can play well and that it isn't talent). Line, RB's, QB and receivers. There have been periods of time when some areas have played well but not all together at the same time in the same game. The offense hasn't been this productive in all aspects against a decent opponent in 3-4 years.
Dazzler hasn't changed in the last two games. He is the same coach that he has always been. Stupid comment.
The big change has been at Center. Baker sucked at center. Petrula has been dominating there which has vastly improved the o-line. Since he was put at center the offense has improved exponentially. QB has time, can see the field and run as needed. I don't thin they have had a false start in the last 4 games. Dillion has enough room to run free and that is all he needs, just enough room.
If the Dazzler wins out, I give him a second chance...
The players are plying better. But the play calling has been much improved. The TEs have been involved more in the past two games than all season. The variability of play calling (an freaking flea flicker?!?) has improved.
I’m not sure if dad turned over play calling to Loeffler or if he just acknowledged that the playbook is more than 2 pages long. Either way, I see this as indication that we were in self-imposed exile the first half of the year.
Minor changes because the line is blocking.
Mod34, welcome back, bro. Missed ya.
Mod is back!!!!!! A beautiful thing indeed!
Did you see? Mod is back. After the 2 wins, I guess that he took his head out of the oven.
Notre Dame loss is looking better.
To Addazio's credit, not much has changed the past two weeks other than execution. Our play calling has been a bit more aggressive, but that's it. The team is just getting better and we aren't playing top flight defenses in Clem and VT anymore.
Also to Daz's credit, dating back to game 1 of this season, we have been much more aggressive in using all 4 downs. We were very effective at that today with NO hesitation -- moving so quickly on 4th down that we caused UVA to blow 2 time outs.
There's no denying the positive trends. The team is fun to watch. Daz is a total jerk, but, setting that aside, I hope he succeeds -- he can recruit and this team is young. If its improvement bears fruit like it has the past two weeks...he's building something. Those are big ifs but our program is in precarious shape and the easiest way for it to get on more solid ground is if Daz succeeds. So, I hope he does.
Let's keep this up.
I hope FSU comes to Boston ill-prepared and that we beat them in the Red Bandanna Game - like USC.
That was something unthinkable not long ago.
Then we get a bye week, awaiting high-flying NC State. But they get hungry Notre Dame and hungry Clemson, before coming to lowly Boston College.
Maybe there might be a letdown.
Wouldn't it be something to beat them as well.
Go BC - beat FSU. Prepare well after dinner tomorrow at the Stockyard. ☺️
Dillon is the difference. The 75 yard run last week had nothing to do with the line. He broke two tackles. Both of whom came in unblocked. Same thing on that first down run today when he was stuffed on the left edge-one guy can't bring him down, he did the same shove move he did last week. He weakens the will to tackle.
There is no way you can watch this play calling and say it's business as usual. Loeffler is using his TEs, using Smith better, the flea flicker to a small white dude, and spelling Dillon with Hilliman better. The play calling IS different. Dillon has changed everything. There are literally eight in the box on nearly every 1st and 2nd down because you need three guys to tackle him. DBs want no part of him, you can see it when they half ass those attempts at his legs.
With this dominant win, the haters need to acknowledge Addazios will be back next year and enjoy the team's success. 4-3 with a big game at home next week....
Next two games will either bring us back to reality or will confirm that things are improving. Daz will not be safe unless he wins two more games. UConn should be a given but the other three opponents are no walk in the park.
I will be happy if we finish 7-5 but I fear that we are looking at 6-6 which will put us in no man’s land with Daz straddling the fence between staying or going. If that is the case it will be interesting to see how Jarmond plays it. My guess is that he will let the bowl game outcome determine the fate of Daz.
Because someone thinks Adazzio is a horrible coach, he's a hater? He is a terrible coach and shouldn't be back no matter what happens.
Dam the mixed emotions. Happy for the win. If daz coaches with aggression , plays to win, recruits , puts forth great effort and is committed to doing what it takes he will keep his job. Great 2 weeks!!!!! I'm proud of the boys. Anthony brown is the most talented passer on a bc roster since Ryan sprinkle in the athleticism and wow. Dillon is super talented. I do t trust him to get the most out of him and the rest of the young team.
Hard to say who or what is right or who deserves credit and who doesn't. All we know is that they are playing with passion and confidence. And that's all that matters. This looks like a group who didn't give up (players and coaches) and who might have found themselves. I hope it continues. The only good thing about losing is that it makes winning so much sweeter! Next stop - FSU. Go get 'em boys - play football!
Really stunning how two wins convinces people the worst coach in school history should be back. Pathetic. Now 28 - 31 at BC, 13 - 24 in ACC.
Right, he's suddenly figured it all out.
I know. What a bunch of fair weather fans whose opinions shift with the winds. All of a sudden Daz is the second coming of Joe Paterno.
Well, we are young at Center and QB and RB Dillon.
Benefit of the doubt - it takes a while to get these guys into the flow. Plus Brown has been dinged up and couldn't even practice before the VT game, I think.
So Loeffler used a basic offensive package that was offensive - but not in the right sense from our viewpoint.
Now that he is able to expand the playbook, we have the players to respond.
Petrula is amazing as well. The adjustment to college itself is major, and I think he is/will study Finance. Let's give these guys full credit because they have plenty on their plates.
Dillon has the defense worried sick and it was said that UVA designed their plan to stop him. That alone has expanded our opportunities.
Anyway, others know more about coaching and play selection, but when passes are CAUGHT, good things can and did happen.
Go BC - keep it up.
Was in SB... Winbush is pretty much unstoppable if he doesn’t have to throw. Defense was good but Darnold is more Rick Mirer than Drew Bledsoe.
TGS and Georgia. I luv that the team won two games as an underdog. And yes Daz did something to turn the tables.
But no one is forgetting what a lousy coach he is.
2 upsets do not wash away years of failure.
Still practically speaking, he will beat Uconn, get 5 wins and BC will bring him back.
Did anyone expect he'd beat Clemson,ND or VT? Of course not. Only bad loss. Is Wake.
I'd luv to see a new coach take over, but think the odds are that he will be back.
If we beat either FSU or NC State then Daz is probably safe but that is a tall order even with the improved play. Daz needs at least two more wins to stay so Syracuse and UConn are his best bets.
If they lose 3 out of the next 4, all the comments will shift back to fire Daz and I suspect Jarmond will let him go. My sense is that they go 2-2 and the great debate will extend into 2018.
DAZZLE-NOT is still the idiot he has always been. If he is going to continue to blight
"THE HEIGHTS" some way must be found to give Scott Loeffler , Jim Reid , Ricky Brown
at least a 33 % rise in salary.
Lest anyone forget REMEMEMBER what Ryan Day's departure meant to a TOTAL LACK
of offense BC team meant. Lose these guys and EVER MORE WRETCHEDNESS.
LETS not go that route again.
IT has been most exciting to return to good football "FOR BOSTON"
The offensive explosions of the past two weeks are actually a greater damnation of Adazzio then ever. The fact that this team had it in them, only to be so inept previously, is fully on the coach(es).
I was listening to part of the game on the radio. And hearing those two idiots was laughable. At one point Cronin in response to a comment about the negativity said something to the effect of, people need to understand expectations. The expectation is to be bowl eligible by winning 7 games. This puts you in the top 35 in the nation (completely false). You then hope to be consistent and then fight your way into the top 25 with the outside chance that a Matt Ryan type guy comes around every other decade and you make it into the top 10. What a loser. Outside of the blatantly false statement that having 7 wins makes you a top 35 team. If this idiot is speaking with the voice of the coaches and administration, its no wonder they accept Adazzio and his play to keep it close and pray that maybe you win every once in a while mentality, permeates. Funny how this moron had nothing to say about the spate of blow out losses (4 of the 10 worst in the past year plus) or the fact that the offense has been ranked 100+ for three straight years. What a joke.
As for the remaining schedule; Florida State is not a good football team at the moment. Its shocking that a program with that kind of recruiting could not weather the loss of their starting QB and has completely imploded. NC St is a good squad, but we always play them well (sort of like UVA in fact). UConn is terrible. Syracuse is a team we should beat at home, but we always seem to play like garbage against them.
Looking back at the schedule, we have lost to three legit top 10 teams in ND, Clemson and VT. The loss to Wake was terrible.
There's a reason why we are playing significantly better on the road than at home. It's our damn PA announcer who takes us out of every game. With him in the booth Friday night it will be difficult to overcome his high-pitched, unenthusiastic whine.
I will preface this comment by saying that I called for Addazio’s job after the VT loss. Offense looked terrible. If you know your weaknesses after 3 years and can’t address them youre incompetent.
That being said, I don’t understand the negativity. Give credit where credit is due. The playcalling and execution has been phenomenal, night and day. We have to keep in mind he’s starting a freshman at running back, Center, and quarterback. The adjustment from high school to the ACC is not always a smooth one. Is anyone shocked it took Brown half a year to feel confident in the pocket? Or for Dillon to realize no DB in the nation wants to see him in the open field? Or that Petrula might be the best offensive line recruit we’ve had since Castonzo. Who’s to say any of these kids (who clearly have a *ton* of potential) stick around if he leaves.
He lost the second best player on the defense and leader in the locker room (Strachan) for the year and somehow we sit at 4-4. Beat FSU and we’re going bowling. Get over your complex of hating your own team and enjoy the run.
I don't think anyone here is in danger of thinking Daz is a great coach. We'll give him credit for (a) being a solid recruiter. This team has loads of young talent. And (b) sometimes finding good coordinators to overcome his shortcomings. Hasn't always been the case but Day, Brown, now perhaps Loef (time will tell) are coordinators we can win with. Daz will never, ever be a great game day/situational coach. Period. But we hope he can learn to compensate; maybe that's what witnessing this year.
In general, I'm pessimistic on coaching changes. They make fans feel great, but the high is short term. The odds aren't in your favor that they'll improve things. There's loads of data bearing this out yet time and again fan bases irrationally believe their school can beat the odds. Even storied programs like ND and Michigan had to wallow in bad years bc of a bunch of hires that seemed amazing on paper and sucked in real life. (& even w the right guy, panic sets in fast. Brian Kelley looked like toast last year.) So basically, yeah, if Daz seems to be putting it together -- and admin has several more games before it has to make that judgment -- then our odds are better if we stick with him. Time will tell.
Meantime, yeah, thanks for two very entertaining games. Go Eagles!

1. Injuries are part of the game. We are hardly the only team in the country dealing with this issue.
2. Why is it that in year 5, we are still pointing to "youth" as an excuse?

Hiring coaches is 50/50 at best. That I agree with. That said, you cant use this fear to stick with a coach for eternity when he clearly isnt producing. Dont forget that this team has been ranked 100+ in offense in each of the past 3+ years. Dont forget that half of the 10 worse defeats in the history of the program have come in the past two years. At some point, you need to cut ties and start new. Even FSU and VT finally cut ties with their legendary coaches. Look at the results of those two moves. Adazzio is not even worth mentioning in the same breath as Bowden and Beamer.
Youth should not be an excuse in year 5, I agree. If there’s one big criticism of Addazio it has been that his rosters are consistently somewhat shallow in depth. But just take a second and acknowledge that Dillon and Brown could be the best backfield duo this program has had in 25 years. That’s undoubtedly something to be excited about, and Daz is the one who got them here.
Yeah.
Darnolds line is half injured. He lost some very good skill players. No equivalency to Mirer or Bledsoe. Better than both.
Sounds like there is alot of personal animosity towards Dazzler. TGS gets a tingle in his pants when Dazzler talks so he wants him gone.
If Dazzler wins he can stay. Assuming he continues to win, he provides two big pluses: he runs a clean program and he goes to church on Sunday(good to have him espouse the culture of the school and good for recruiting).
I will say it again for the impaired, you TGS. If Dazzler wins he can stay.
@BCAlum2000: You make good points. Time will tell.
Knucklehead, you are such a flip-flopper. Instead of shifting with the winds ( half the people in here), take a position and stick with it. It's called conviction.
Can we just stay in the moment and not root for the team to lose because you hate the coach ? If you blame him for losing to Wake, you have to credit him for beating Louisville and UVa . We have a big game at home against Fla St on Friday. Enjoy the ride and the possibility their might be some energy at Alumni. Those of you who are pining for MattRyan or dreaming of ACC championships, you're kidding yourselves and missing the point of BC football.
So what is the point of BC football - endless years of mediocre football with an occasional crappy bowl? If that's what you want, Train, Daz is your man. Ever to be mediocre.
Many of us thought that we might be 4 wins and 4 losses after the first 8 games.
We didn't expect to lose to WF at home or to defeat Louisville on the road.
Losses to Notre Dame, Clemson and Virginia Tech we're thought to be losses on the possibility side, with NIU, Central Michigan and UVA on the win side.
We now have a 4 game season, in which we could win them all, lose them all, go 3 and 1, 2 and 2 or 1 and 3.
Currently we are trending up. Will it be enough to defeat FSU? I hope so and I hope our team really buckles down in practice Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
FSU has to travel on Thursday.
Go BC - beat FSU and go into your bye week on a 3 game win streak feeling absolutely great about yourselves.
If the UVA game was huge, the FSU game is also - more so.
Given academic standards nobody should expect BC to challenge for the ACC championship every year like a few schools in our conference but we should not settle for mediocrity.
There is no reason for minimum expectations to be 7-5 or better each and every year (4-4 ACC and 3-1 non-conference) with above expectations to contend for the ACC. Obviously there will down years but seasons like 2012 and 2015 should be far and few between.
Also, I have seen quite a few of our players being interviewed this season and I like what I have seen.
Yes,they are young and could make mistakes & but they look like serious young men who are also serious about their studies and possibilities after college.
Go BC. Players, thank you for representing Boston College so well.
STL, I agree with your view point.
No flip flop. If he continues to win he can stay. Nuance. No flip flop. If he keeps winning you want him fired anyway. Conviction gets people in trouble when they cannot see they are wrong.
Again, if he continues to win he can stay.
Right Big.
And those loses are to top 10 teams. The beating we took seems to be paying off against the mediocre teams.
Friday is going to be big. FSU is an above average team bit not anywhere near top 10. A win would be very very good.
I dislike Addazio, but I could never root against the kids so that he'd be fired. I want them to win every game from here on out.
I'm still wondering what magic switch was flipped that turned this team into an offensive machine. Is Daz keeping out of the playcalling and leaving it to Loeffler? Have the young players simply grown into their positions? What has happened???
That's the million dollar question, Dixie.
A win over FSU would be very very good indeed. And it just might happen. They're scuffling without Francois and the Eagles appear to be hitting their stride. The turnaround has been nothing short of stunning. If they keep it up, heck yeah, Daz can stay.
Baker getting hurt at center and Petrula being forced into the center role with Dillion showing what he can do.
I liked the way the defense didn't give into VT in the 4th Q when they folded under similar circumstances against ND an d Clemson. The offense had to look at that and feel like they were not contributing enough.
But just take a second and acknowledge that Dillon and Brown could be the best backfield duo this program has had in 25 years.
Its amazing how a couple wins has people giddy to the point of delusion.
If by "backfield" you mean QB and RB, you are insane. If by backfield, you just mean the RB's, you are only crazy.
IT IS NOT DAZ!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT is 3 Brilliant Coaches who will move on if we don't pay them very well and once again
Dazzle-Not will back as he was when we were perhaps the very worst offense in division
1 football.
How could you FORGET a very recent past.
Crediting him with this turn around is UNREAL.
The loss to Wake was appalling. The second half capitulation to Notre Dame was appalling. The 4th quarter capitulation to Clemson was appalling. The 4 blowout losses by a combined score of about 200-20 was appalling. The winless ACC record two years ago was appalling. The 100+ ranked offense for three years in a row was appalling. Can we stop acting like Adazzio is suddenly some genius and recognize the level of horrific this program has reached and the fact that we now see wins over a Louisville team with a horrific defense and a UVA team that had played no one, as some kind of salvation. If the team wins out, he should stay. If we are not bowl eligible he needs to go. The question then becomes, what is done if the team finishes 6-6? If Kelly is waiting in the wings and has voiced interest, then its a no-brainer.
BTW, its funny how suddenly everyone thinks Brian Kelly is a genius again. We should have hired him a decade ago when he was basically begging for the job. Instead we promoted Spaz ...
Last I checked Anthony Brown is breaking some records that Matt Ryan never accomplished (and he’s only a redshirt freshman). Also, when was the last time BC has a 6 foot 240 pound 19 year old tailback who runs a 4.5. Oh yeah, that would be never
