Report: FSU thinking of adding Lacrosse

A college lacrosse blog used a Freedom of Information request to look into rumors of Florida State starting a DI college lacrosse program. While most of the official channels within the university focused on a Women's Team, there has been talk by their administration the past few years about including Lax in their master plan. Aside from the growing popularity of the sport, their rival's (University of Florida) expansion into lacrosse seems to be driving some of the interest at FSU.

What does this have to do with BC? While we can't do FOA requests to a private school, I imagine the topic has been discussed in official channels lately. We know all of BC's recent Athletic Directors have gotten the question from the Alumni base. Jarmond has repeated the same old narratives about the challenges of bringing back the Men's team. If other ACC team's expand, it will only make those excuses more hollow.

If other people are into it, more power to them. Still, we play in a legit baseball conference, let's focus on that. If we were an elite ACC baseball program, that'd be more impressive than 50 consecutive NCAA LAX championships.

It should happen & I hope we do it right, not half-heartedly. It's a very fit w school's geography & student base. Women's program proves the model can work. Michigan moved up while MJ was at OSU, so he's seen it work. I suspect he's supportive.

Every lax guy I knew at BC was a douche. No thanks.

Boston College baseball is the definition of a sunk cost.

The land they allocated to that program for the god foresaken baseball stadium is worth $10's of millions of dollars. Waste.

It makes absolutely zero sense that BC lacks a men’s lacrosse team. It is the fastest growing sport in the country. The popularity and success that the women’s team enjoyed last year is proof that there is an appetite for lacrosse at BC.

BC currently offers the most sports programs in the ACC (at or near 26 if I remember correctly). Some of these programs include sports like water polo, diving, and fencing. Surely BC can trim the fat somewhere and replace one of these irrelevant programs with one that will actually give it some national recognition.

If it's any college in the U.S., everything's about the money. Lax needs to crush it.

Fastest growing sport in the US? Are you crazy? No one west of the Mississippi cares about LAX.

The number of youth players topped 450,000 for the first time ever, and lacrosse continues to be the fastest-growing team sport at the high school and collegiate levels. Over the last five years, the number of schools sponsoring lacrosse at the high school level has risen 27 percent, and the number of NCAA schools sponsoring lacrosse has grown 33 percent.

Jarmon went over it in pretty good detail at a meeting down here in Philly. He’d love to do it but it would take $40M in his and the schools estimation, based on scholarships, facilities and keeping men’s and women’s sports compliant with Title IX. Come up with the dough and BC will make it happen. Apparently there are some eager alumni that have verbally committed to about $10M of that, but that’s not gonna get it done.

Jim Brown was a lacrosse legend at Syracuse. It is all about Title IX and placating the fairer sex with pseudo equality through lacrosse and ice hockey. Most D-1 schools have 120 scholarships for football. BC has maybe 90. I am sure that Mod knows the exact numbers.----There were always two legal interpretations for giving out gender scholarships. One was the percentage of students who wanted to participate and the other is the one that we have of a complete quota.--- There is a scene in "Last of the Mohicans" where friendly "Indians" were playing lacrosse. From information garnered from the writings of James Fenimore Cooper, certain tribes played lacrosse using the heads of their enemies. Actually that was the preferred method of Jim Brown.--- Now tell me again how if women get tough enough from lacrosse and hockey that one day, we will have integration into D-1 football.--- It just "ain't" gonna happen except in reruns of "Wonder Woman" If chloroform can knock her out, just think what Luke Kuechly would do. One look at Mark Emmert of the NCAA as seen handing the BBall trophy to Jalen Brunson of Villanova with his duck bum hair style and you will know all that you need to know.
