Basketball wins Fort Myers Tip-off

I don't know if you want to call anything a bounce back, but BC slightly redeemed themselves after last week's terrible loss to IUPUI by defeating Loyola-Chicago to win the Fort Myers Tip-off. As holiday tournaments go, this isn't the Maui Invitational, but it did involve BC winning multiple games in a neutral site against some solid mid-majors. Baby steps, I guess.

The good thing about this game is that they played well with Bowman on the bench for most of the first half. Loyola did not shoot well, but some of it was due to BC's defense. Chatman filled the void and played much better than he did against Wyoming.

Do we know what to expect from this team yet? No. But we will have more answers next week against Minnesota.

Glad to a better effort. We shouldn't be a good "mid-major" but its better than losing. Alot left to see with this team. I'm hoping for .500 ACC but thats a pipedream i think.

Wyoming is flat out terrible. Loyola Chicago made the Final Four last year but do they have anyone left from that team?

BC should take note on Gonzaga beating Duke to win the Maui Invitational. Their star is Hachimura who is NBA bound. BC has to recruit better.----The Duke freshmen are "out of this world". The left handed dunker. Williamson I believe, is from another universe. BC has no chance for this type of player. Therefore, they should do what Gonzaga has done and change their recruiting tactics. --- BC could get players like Sabonis who is now tearing up the NBA or even Wagner of Michigan who is now playing pro back in Germany. Basically, BC is in the third level for recruiting elite black players. They may find a "diamond in the rough" because of playing in the ACC.-----When Ralph Sampson was being recruited by Virginia, Digger Phelps of Notre Dame remarked on the going price for such a player. There is just no chance for BC to get such a star. Now if they can expand their horizon to other countries like Ed Kelly of soccer has done, then they will succeed. They would also need an elite coach.

Can BC sports get any grimmer? Villanova, Gonzaga, Loyola, ND, Georgetown, they all have had their brighr shining moments of Fame. BC , on the other hand, has pretty much been a backwater in college sports. I'm so disgusted.

Jared Dudley, Danya Abrams would help dramatically looking for the better almost elite black players .
A good idea to starting hitting foreign recruitment as well.
Nice wins in Florida CONGRATS but it is all about recruitment if we want to regularly
compete for places 4-6 in the ACC as well as a third every five-six years.

There are no elite white, Asian or Hispanic players to recruit?

Risking the ire of some, I think that recruiting the best(period)that meet our academics standards is the job.

A change at the very top is needed to achieve excellence across the board. Until the university policy changes we can expect more of the same. Athletic dominance is not inconsistent with high academic standards. There is evidence of this all across the country. I wonder if Jarmond's plan of sweeping excellence is an indication that university policy has changed, or is it just more blather without top level sanction?

Joey, Every now and then you and are on the same page. Recruit the best available players who meet our academic standards. Absolutely.
