Loeffler to Bowling Green, BC getting new OC

Congrats to Scot Loeffler. He's leaving BC to become Bowling Green's new Head Coach. It is a compliment to him, BC and Addazio, that another FBS school hired him away from us based in part on what he accomplished at BC. But as a fan and critic of BC, I am not upset or really worried about his departure. While a seemingly nice guy and good fit around the team and campus, Loeffler is below average Offensive Coordinator.

This season BC had an offensive S&P+ of 95th in College Football. Last year it was 101st. In 2016, Loeffler's first calling plays at BC, it was 124th. Some of this is talent. Some is Addazio's philosophy and game approach. But much of it is Loeffler. He was OC and it was his job to prepare the players, plan the schemes and adjust during the games.

As a frame of reference, BC's S&P+ under Addazio and prior to Loeffler:
2015 (Todd Fitch as OC): 125th
2014 (Ryan Day as OC): 50th
2013 (Ryan Day as OC): 30th

This is an opportunity for Addazio to boost the offense and help this team get better. I do believe there is offensive talent. Hence why BC can be so explosive. However, I don't think the coaching or play calling is great and that explains why they can be so explosive one play and inept the next.

If Addazio follows any pattern, it will be that he hires someone from his current coaching network. I have no real insight, but you could probably throw names out there like Mike Sanford Jr., Mark Whipple, Kevin Rogers, etc. I would be surprised if he promotes from within, but Brian White has been an Offensive Coordinator before.

Ultimately this is an opportunity. BC has playmakers, we just need someone who can get the most out of the talent and who can work with Addazio.

Insane that anyone would want Loeffler after the sad sack offenses he's had. Daz is still the main problem so expect the same next year offensively. Congrats to Loeffler, hopefully he does well, though that just damns Daz more.

It's insane to think that the Dazzler was not the OC. His fingerprints are all over it. Bowling Green obviously believed that Loeffler was not the guy behind the run up the middle philosophy or else they would have never hired him. Dazzler will hire a sycophant. Would anybody else take it?

Yep

Let me repeat a previous post.
ATL, please come down from Mt. Olympus and organize an online petition to the Mouse demanding Dazoshit's immediate termination. Just once show some leadership and stop being a cheerleader for the administration.

when Day left after the 2014 season we promoted from within and went with Todd Fitch, and promptly had the worst offensive season in the history of the school and probably of any team in the ACC. let's hope Jarmond did build in the "win 8 or you're gone" ultimatum in the yet-to-be-reported extension so that Daz takes it more seriously this time around.

i actually think Loeffler did good things for us and Daz gave him the rope to call plays and set the tone - we went no huddle, played with tempo, passed more - all of that doesn't scream DAZ to me. stuffing it straight up the gut til the other team taps is more DAZ to me.

this could be a good thing if we make a good hire or an even better thing if we make a bad hire, the team implodes, and Daz is fired.

@ATL - why in the world would Kevin Rogers be hired? he was the loser Spaz hired and last coached in 2016 for William & Mary. am i missing something? last time we hired an old loser out of retirement was Gary Tranquill. come to think of it - maybe he is still available? (just kidding)

hard pass on Whipple as well.

El Miz, where the hell is your outrage that Dazoshit is still our head coach? I guess you fall into the column of Dazoshit apologists.

I have no respect for Loeffler either because he was an awful OC, or he didn't have the guts to tell Addazio where to go.

@GA Eagle - Daz is what he is and i'd love to see them make a change. not worth spending more time than that on it though until there is an announcement one way or the other.

my guess for Offensive Coordinator - current co-OC at Florida John Hevesy. is from Connecticut, went to Univ. of Maine, and he checks the "Daz Familiarity" boxes - was a grad assistant at Syracuse when Daz was the OL coach, 05-08 he was the Assistant OL coach at Florida basically backing up Daz, and is sharing the duties now so it'd be a promotion in name. maybe add a "Assistant Head Coach" or something silly to get him to decamp from Florida. according to google he makes $575k this year (have no idea what Loeffler made) so pay/cost of living might be an issue, but maybe he wants to be back in the northeast?

Why is @atl a cheerleader. he does a lot with is site. Why don't you and KH and Mod be the cheerleaders to get the change that we all want. You organize the petition. Stop talking and start acting.

Im an old baby boomer. Wish I knew how. Comrade Joey, your self-righteous holier-than-thow routine is getting old. ATL almost always predicts BC victories, and never shows outrage over the failed policies of the triumvirate - Leahy, Jarmond, and Dazoshit.

GE, don't forget the board. Where are they on this? Do they even care about the university's ranking as a school, never mind the football and basketball polls?

Geezer eagle said...

Agreed. Everyone in the chain of command is culpable. Clean house from top to bottom and start fresh. Keeping Dazoshit one more day as our head coach is an outrage.

No shit, Mod. My frustration is just boiling over. If there is one person who can help the regional alumni convey to the powers up in Chestnut Hill our disqust with Dazoshit it's ATL. For reasons unknown, the man refuses to act.

In all seriousness, I would like to see Addazio thanked for his service and relieved of his duties. That's not happening. I'm guessing BC is trying to get Addazio to take a cut-rate extension of some sort, and Addazio is telling them to pound sand.

So cheap BC, after more grousing from Addazio, will announce the "extension". This will be another year at full freight. Terms won't be announced, though, because the purpose is to salvage recruiting. A 2-year buyout is the price of salvaging recruiting classes.

I'd like to see BC bite the bullet now, but they won't.

OC, if they can him now, it's a 2 year buyout. If they do the extension, it's a 2 year buyout. All over one recruiting class. Idiotic. When Alumni Stadium has more empty seats than fans, maybe they'll wake up, but I'm not betting on it.

Oh, and riddle me this: who is going to take the OC job at BC under Daz? When Daz meddles heavily and sits squarely on the hot seat?

Certainly not the co-OC at Florida. Maybe the best option would be a position assistant from a fired FBS staff, where the offense was strong but the defense was the culprit for the HC being fired. Or perhaps an up-and-coming OC from a FCS program. Knowing Daz, though, he's going to pick a buddy. No thanks.

Was this a relationship with Daz thing or a long sought after opportunity?

In all seriousness, it's a HC gig at a FBS school. When is Loeffler going to get another offer like that? If he catches lightning in a bottle, he has a chance to get a FBS head job and lock in a comfy retirement (see O'Brien, Tom, @NC State). That wasn't going to happen based on his work as an OC.

You have to imagine Daz has one more year left, as we all know he''s not winning more than 6 or 7 games. You get that much more stale, so grab the brass ring now. Even if you flame out at BG you should get 3 years at a minimum, which is two more than the one you'd have with Addazio at BC.

If Dazzler got him the job then he sure as shit feels secure that he is coming back for 2-3 years.
