Turner gone

Boston College sophomore AJ Turner told ESPN he will transfer. Has received his release.

If you want an example of the sorry state of BC basketball look at the case of AJ Turner's departure. Turner has been a frustrating disappointment who has never lived up to his recruiting ranking, yet the team will be much worse without him. Most view Jim Christian as a lame duck. But with a new Athletic Director coming in there was always the chance he would turn things around. Without Turner, things seem less likely to turn around. Maybe Chatman will get Turner's minutes, but there is no obvious replacement.

Other than frustration, I don't know why Turner is leaving. While BC is losing, I doubt he will be an impact player at other elite program. Plus, he will have to sit a year.

Where does Christian go from here? Hopefully the returning players step up. Who knows? I think we are in for another long season.

Basketball adds 5th transfer

Jim Christian added some much needed front line depth with Western Michigan PF Connar Tava. He missed this past season with a foot injury. Tava put up respectable numbers in MAC play two years ago. The best part of this all is that A.J Turner helped bring him to campus. The two were high school teammates. When your best players are selling the program at least we know there is hope.

There should be more roster movement in the following days.

Full roster for NC State game?

Contrary to some message board rumors, Dennis Clifford is playing at NC State. Yet in some potentially good news, A.J. Turner and Jerome Robinson did travel with the team and are expected to play. Both were seen in pregame taking part in shoot-arounds against Georgia Tech. Even with some rust or conditioning issues, both would be huge additions.

Regardless of who is healthy and who plays, BC remains an underdog at NC State. But the depth gives Christian a few options and can help in a tight game. Getting a win is the priority, but things are so bad I just want a little hope. Maybe Turner and Robinson can provide it.

Christian lands Turner

Football wasn't the only BC sport with big news on Saturday. A.J. Turner -- one of the elite players in New England -- committed to BC and Jim Christian. Turner plays for New Hampton but is originally from Michigan. The 6'6 wing's ranking varies by each recruiting service, but all have him among their top 150 players. He also holds offers from Michigan State, Stanford and Florida State. 

Christian now has a good mix of guards and perimeter players in his 2015 class. The focus now turns to inside players and big men to fill out the recruiting class.
