BC picks four captains

After messing around with "game day" captains for a few seasons, Addazio decided to return to BC's old ways. The team voted on four captains who will represent the team for the entire season. The honored four are Truman Gutapfel, John Johnson, Tyler Rouse and Myles Willis.

I don't think captains or the idea of game day vs season captains wins any games for a team like BC. But I do think that having four elected leaders can hep build a better team culture. I hope these guys set a good example on the practice fields and the locker room and help BC get out of its rut.

I also hope that these captains set a good example while the team is in Ireland. We don't need any nonsense in a foreign country just as he season starts.

One of the things that bothered me most about the game was watching Tyler Rouse get so many carries after leaving the game earlier with a head injury. He visibly wobbled off the field.

There is so much we don't know about head injuries and concussions, it seems best to err on the side of caution. I also worry about putting the "play/not to play" decision on the coach and player. They are tough, competitive people. They are always going to play. That is why it should not be their calls. It should be a medical decision. Based on the solid reporting by Michael Sullivan, it appears the Rouse decision was handled under BC's current protocol.

Got clarification on the BC concussion policy: coaching staff has no bearing on the clearance of players, only BC's medical staff.

Should any BC player take the field after a head injury? I am not a medical expert, but I would like to see the issue examined further. However, I am glad that there is a policy and that the coach doesn't influence it.

Ugly win

Sometimes you feel good after a close win. Not today. That was ugly.

I didn't like the way they used Flutie. I didn't like they way they used Smith. And using Rouse after an official head injury notification that came from BC, is highly questionable.

Once again, BC's defense did everything only to see the O and Special Teams nearly give it away. The D is going to have to carry this team the rest of the way, since everything else from the game management to simple kickoffs is a mess.

I will have my grades and second viewing thoughts up late Sunday.

Rouse commits to BC

New York Running Back Tyler Rouse committed to BC Tuesday and will sign a Letter of Intent Wednesday. Although he was New York's Gatorade Player of the Year, Rouse didn't attract much FBS-level interest due to his height. He's only 5'8, however, his productivity shows he can carry a big load.

Congrats to Tyler and let's hope his decision means National Signing Day is a good one for BC. Addazio's reputation as a recruiter is not exclusively about sales. He's also supposed to have a good eye for talent. I hope this is an example of him finding a diamond in the rough.
