BC unveiled its plan for the Brighton campus and for 2000 Comm Ave.
Gotta love the jeering from the locals. It will be interesting to see who fills all the off campus apartments students currently use. I have a hunch the demographics will change and the Brighton folks will long for the days when students lived in the area. Here is BC's
map of the plans.
Despite Miami's strong push, we are recruiting Florida product Lawrence Henderson.
ESPN.com named Flutie Boston College's "face of the program." Was there much debate in Bristol over that one?
Former Eagle Pat Ross signed with the Panthers.
Matt Ryan hasn't forgotten his Philly roots. (Thanks to John S. for the link.)

when i was reading the blog entry i thought that there was some mistake because memory told me that 2000 Comm Ave was the really nice building with sweet apartments, res views, etc. a friend lived there back in the day, nice digs for a student. anyway i clicked on the article and was shocked to read BC is buying the building. obv a necessary move as the school grows.
ATL- any more info on exactly what facilities will make up the Athletic Complex on the Brighton Campus?
The residents that have nothing better to do than to show up at these meetings and complain should all be euthanized. What a joke.
in an area where there are muggings and sexual assaults every year, I'll never understand why the locals are so concerned with students who stay out past their bedtimes.
BC is paying something like $68 million for 2000 Comm Ave. That's roughly $300k per unit, not cheap by any means. I googled that address and found some photos of the back of the property. I had no idea there was a pool there! The apartments themselves seem nice, but I wouldn't call them luxurious. It's the location of course. Wish they had that building available when I was a student. At any rate, it's awesome that BC finally got that building. That will go a long way to getting 100% of students in university housing.
I believe that BC intends to remove the pool and the balconies that are on each unit (a good idea, when you think about it). Students already occupy 40% of the building, and its a good move by BC to get that goal of everyone in university controlled housing.
Patrick: I figured BC would want to remove the pool and the balconies: too much of a liability. Where did you hear that BC was going to do that?
balconies/pool decision was talked about at a recent alumni event in NYC
I'm glad that the plan includes the elimination of the "Mods". They were ugly back in the 70's - and I think they were popular for the party atmosphere, etc. But really, they are compeletely out of place in comparison to all of the other nice buildings on the lower campus.
Concerning Matt Ryan and his "worst in the league offensive line" - I wonder if the fans will give him any benefit of the doubt once he starts. I feel he will be a star in the league. Look at Eli Manning as an example. He struggled during his first several years, and now he's the Super Bowl champ!
first of all- eli manning is lucky he was surrounded by a good team. as a charger fan i am so glad he is not on our team and i will forever have no respect for his pre-draft BS.
second of all- the mods are awesome and the home of great memories for many, many, many alums
There are still mods there on the map. Maybe not as many, but they are there.
There's a very easy solution for the mod issue- just build townhouses. It will update the housing (which the school wants) while still preserving the backyards and the unique part that the students love. The idea of building just another enormous, anonymous dorm building is idiotic.
