Weekend wrap up

Women's Soccer fell to Duke 2-1. It was their first time losing consecutive games this season. They are now 5th in the ACC.

Here is more on BC's newest basketball recruit Calvin Felder.

It is early, but it should be noted that Men's Hockey lost to Quinnipiac. That left them at 0-3. The worst start to a season since before WWII and clearly the slowest start of the season since York took over.

Louisville gametime, Addazio says nothing, and Hoops hype

BC is playing another early game. The ACC announced the kickoff for the matchup with Louisville will be 12:30. The game will be on your regional sports network and NESN in the Boston area.

Addazio said nothing Sunday or Monday about the various injuries of BC's star players.

Athlon put five players on the preseason All America teams. Dillon had the highest honors with second team status. But it is a good showing and speaks to BC's depth.

Brighton Complex named after Harrington and other links

During the Yawkey debate, I suggested renaming the Football Facility after John Harrington, since it was Harrington's connection to BC that helped drive the donation. Well, BC has named the new Brighton Complex after the former Red Sox CEO.

BC is in the mix for New Jersey DLine prospect Bryce Nelms. He specifically mentioned talking to Campanile twice a week.

Thursday was the final practice before the Spring Game.

The AP named Jerome Robinson to their honorable mention All America team. He is only the fifth BC basketball player to make an AP team.

Ohio DLine prospect Nate Leskovec had lots of good things to say after his unofficial visit to BC. He currently holds offers from a few mid-majors and some other ACC schools.

Hockey beat UMass in a rare Tuesday game.

This recruit claims a BC offer. I don't think BC will honor the commitment given that they kid was just arrested for crack cocaine.

Former BC assistant Dana Bible is joining Chip Kelly's team at UCLA.

Hasselbeck favorite for MNF and other links

Matt Hasselbeck will call the Pro Bowl with Sean McDonough for ESPN in place of Jon Gruden. It is sort of an audition/tryout for the full-time role on Monday Night Football. It appears Hasselbeck is the network's favorite for the job.

If you haven' already heard, Hilliman is headed to Rutgers. This was rumored since the bowl game. As a graduate, he will be eligible to play immediately. Best of luck to him.

Allen returning and other links

I never thought he was a real threat to leave, but Zach Allen announced he will return for his final year. His goal is to become a first round pick.

As for Darius Wade, if you base it off of who he started following on Twitter, he is talking to lots of teams. The obvious target is his home town Delaware, but he is following plenty of Illinois coaches, plus FAU, plus Kansas and Texas A&M, and many more.

Hockey lost their opener in the Las Vegas Tournament.

Denis makes All America team and other links

Congrats to Lukas Denis who was named to the Camp All America Second Team. I know BC has always developed and scouted well, but I do think Addazio's hit rate on underrated talent has been pretty good. Denis was only a two star and BC was his only Power 5 offer. 

Although there are not many spots left, BC is still in the mix with a few different New Jersey prospects. 

Dillon mentioned among the ACC's best running backs.

If Vine does come back, Addazio will be ready.

Moving up computer and human polls and other links

I didn't mention this earlier in the week, but BC keeps climbing the ACC's Power Rankings. That's pretty subjective. But what is a little more interesting is that BC climbed to 40th on the ESPN Football Power Index, which is an ESPN designed objective formula. If we beat NC State, I think we might start receiving votes in the AP Poll. 

The North Carolina media keeps mentioning that BC's backcourt came from the state and was ignored by the local hoops powers.

If you haven't already noticed, the ACC is putting up condensed versions of the conference games. It is actually a pretty useful tool if you want to revisit more than just the highlights.

The ACC named Field Hockey players Ymke Rose Gote and Frederique Haverhals the 2017 All Conference Second Team.

Louisville game time and other links

Following a national television night game against Virginia Tech, BC will take on Louisville on the ACC Regional Network. That's the regional syndication network powered by Raycom. The game starts at 12:20 pm. Whatever local station carried the Raycom games in your market will probably carry it again. The station list will be ready next week.

Zach Allen had his best game of the season. This was one of the notable highlights. 

New Jersey 3 star Elijah McAllister visited during the Central Michigan game. Most see him as a Tight End, but we are recruiting him as a DE and a Landry replacement.

Herzy to IR and other links

On Saturday, the New York Giants placed Mark Herzlich on IR. That means he is ineligible to play for the Giants this season. Once he recovers, he could come off IR, clear waivers and play for another team. But this might be the end of Mark's NFL career. It sounds like the Giants are already planning a post-playing career for him as they want him working with players and still being around. I hope Mark gets one more shot on the field, but if this is it, it was truly a remarkable playing career. When his cancer was first announced, there was real question as to whether his leg would be amputated. Instead he survived, played again in college and then played in the NFL for six seasons. That is amazing. Good luck to Mark on all his future endeavors.

In other NFL news, the Lions picked up Brian Mihalik and the Colts picked up Ian Silberman.

Another remarkable BC athlete's story continues as Boston has declared September 5 as "Pete Frates Day."

The Field Hockey team swept Maryland.

Women's Soccer beat Northeastern.

Fan Council and recruit updates

BC announced the members of their first Fan Council. The release didn't bother explaining who the members are or what their affiliation is to BC. I remain cynical as to how much impact the Council will ultimately have, but at this point Jarmond has very little to lose.

Future BC DB Tyler Days is excited about his final high school season.

The Panthers signed Connor Wujciak.

Spaz's son -- who had been a walk-on at UVA -- is now a scholarship player as a senior. UVA announced it as part of their preseason. Joe Spaziani is a QB and long-snapper. The other thing of note is the kid's facial hair. I guess when your dad is known for his mustache, you've got to take your facial hair game up a level.

Ole Miss used their new open staff spot to hire former BC player and coach Jack Bicknell Jr. This is probably only a one-year stop for Bicknell. Best of luck to him and hopefully he can leverage the opportunity into a more stable role.

Greg Toal is back coaching and there of course is a BC connection. He will be a DLine coach at Bergen Catholic under Nunzio Campanile. This won't help BC's recruiting at Bosco, but it won't hurt recruiting at Bergen Catholic.

Frates' financial challenge and other links

I don't know if many of you read this, but Peter Frates' family is facing financial difficulty due to his exorbitant medical cost. Friends of his are now raising money for something called the "Home Health Care Initiative." The goal is to help families like the Frates with their extremely high medical costs. The pilot program will be in the Boston-area for those who want to give or help.

Does the ACC have the best collection of coaches in college football? I would say so.

More Draft stuff

This has been around many of the BC message boards, but it is worth the attention. According to ESPN, BC is one of the college programs where our draftees out-perform their draft status. I wonder if our players will get a little more respect as Addazio's recruits become eligible for the Draft.
