yeah I was thinking the same thing.... definitely gave them an extra yard on hat last one.
albright looked good on that last tackle... I think our defense will keep us in this game, and we can win it with a big play. Who will be the playmaker tonight?
it looked like when he made the catch his left foot was still down... it was close though. either way, they are beating us with both short passes AND down the field looks now. c'mon montel, break one.
Stopping to reflect for a moment. This is pretty fun. Playing USC, playing against celebrity coach Pete Carrol.
I'm enjoying this for all the "people in the office" who dog BC and say we don't play against great competition, we can add USC to the list of BYU, Penn State, FSU, Miami, Clemson, Michigan State, Georgia, Boise State, Virginia Tech, and all the others from this decade. USC is the only one on that list we haven't beaten, hopefully that changes soon.
I also hope the BC community gives Gene D positive feedback so that he realized we'd rather lost to good teams than beat UMass or Kent State. We all know how wins and losses do nothing for our bowl positioning, and we're at the point of not needing that OOC game to get us bowl eligible. I hope he uses this to schedule more games like our upcoming USC series, and less games like Weber State.
if i hear, "there has to be indisputable video reference," one more time this season from this doofus...
we got it. 5 yrs ago.
moron.
having said that, it would be cruel irony if our walk-on fg kicker turned all-time leading scorer costs us the game. what a bookend that would be to a career that started with the winning kick against navy.
We. Will. Win. It's about clock and turnovers now. BC is a better football team than is SC.(Yeah, it's an Eng major thang...). We will beat these guys if we don't turn the f'ing ball over at the goal line. Watch and believe. The Eagles will triumph! We know we know! You can see it in the kids. GO EAGLES!!!
i gotta give claiborne credit. he had that one dumb late hit penalty. but his ability to run into the camera shot and congratulate everybody after every play is inspiring. he's encouraged me to run to the fridge for another beer. i hope he's there to give me a high 5.
I'll give credit where credit is due...the team played better than I thought they would for much of the game. Now please go out and get an 18 year old quarterback.

And I hate to say it because I LOVE M1H1 as much as the next guy, but this is the second game where a KEY red zone fumble from him really swung the momentum of the game.
Shinskie is horrible and where was the adjustment to cover Williams. He ran open all over the field the entire night and just killed BC. Yet Spaz and Co. make noa adjustments for that. Pathetic.
is Rettig enrolling in january? i sure hope so, shinskie does not seem to have much upside. its so obvious where he's going with it + horrible decision making. no thank you. those announcers were tough to listen to.
Another embarrassment...'nuff said. When it counts, and this did, we don't bring it...
(Yeah, we got torched by the refs, but when you don't have USC credentials, you get "flambayed" by the zebras--the calls never go your way when you are BC, w/ no national titles, so let's wake up and recruit some friggen' dudes, QB's in particular, who only major in Football.)
My USC aunt takes yet another few bucks from me, but BC loses more credibility again, because we can't WIN THE BIG ONE.
That's all she wrote I guess. Really enjoyed watching Richie gunnz the past few years and montel and kuechly really stepped it up this year. It's certainly been interesting and pretty fun seeing what you guys have had to say, thanks to ATL for doing such a great job as well. Hopefully we can build on the highs and patch up the lows for next season. Here's hoping for a great 2010 from bc and all of you. Merry christmas and happy new year to all and congrats to gunnell on the receiving record. We are BC!
Blockparty - get a life dude. If you are satisfied with BC football you are insane.
Posters who say Shinskie and Tranquill are brutal are 100% correct. I was also more than disappointed when Spaz decided to kneel it with one minute left in the first half.
Refs screwed us but Shinskie is terrible. Is that coaching? Also, is Montels chronic fumbling coaching?
I love Gunnell and hate to see him go, the guy was BC's best WR in a long time.
Enjoy your 8 wins, including 2 d2 wins a year Blockparty, people who actually care about BC are fed up with the soft OOC games, and are suck of the conservative mediocrity we see every year.
Tough loss, but for some reason I'm not too upset. Maybe I've just become numb....D plays well enough to win. Montel makes 99% of the plays, but the 1% bad play is a killer. And our QB just can't do it when it counts. I am still upset over the refs. I thought instant reply was meant to correct mistakes on the field...I guess not if you're up against USC.
I wish the Seniors well and look forward to Spring Practice. Happy New Year everyone.
Tim J -- don't get me wrong. I love BC football and want them to do their best and to do better than they did this year and tonight.
But it's really tiresome to hear these same a-holes game-in and game-out tell us why they think BC sucks. Constant snide and sneering remarks And this Bbill guys is just so happy to see BC fail. F'ing gleeful about it.
Are these your kinda guys?
Or, are these guys the type on your hall that no one would have a beer with (unless they supplied the beer) or no one would room with them (unless they needed their points.) I am just tired of hearing the dick comments by these clowns.
I know we still lost, but Bravesbill...didn't you predict us to lose something like 45-10? We kept it close for most of the game and had some bad breaks/calls fall against us...clearly we didn't do enough to win, and we didn't get any help...but the team played a lot better than you thought they would, no? I for one thought they were going to lie down and let USC trample all over them when they went down 14-0, like at Clemson and VT. I was encouraged to see that the team was able to come back from that and make it a game, especially after a bogus officiating call that helped USC to that 2nd TD. I think that Montel fumble inside the 5 was the game changer. If Bowman's picked turned into at TD, we could've really rattled Barkley. Some of the offensive play calling was spotty. There were times where they passed the ball when they should've stuck with the run. I also don't like how they ran out the clock with a minute to go in the half. The late drives also seemed to have no sense of urgency. I thought Donovan McNabb was our O-Coordinator for a second. This game in a lot of ways reminded me of the Notre Dame game...there were flashes where we played well but in the end we made too many costly mistakes. I was proud of the effort, but not happy with the result. Let's hope Shinskie can learn to play like he did in the 2nd quarter for 4 quarters by the time next season rolls around. This team should definitely win the ACC Atlantic next year, and if they don't, then I think it's time to make some changes somewhere.
At 8:26 PM, Bravesbill said... Let the slaughter begin.
I'm all for bringing the program to the next level, those kind of comments don't really bring much to the table though. I would venture a guess that the vast majority of Bravesbill's posts are in that vein. I like reading CT's comments, i think he's pretty fair. Bravesbill needs to get a life though, typical anonymous message board cynic. Whatever.
Yeah, Mod--you're right--but I'm venting after years 'n years of constant nights like this one--I mean like 40 seasons, if you get my drift. It just becomes "studiculous and rependously absurd" at every level.
I mean, the Pope gets tackled during Christmas Mass at the Vatican and Tiger gets stopped behind the line of scrimmage by text messages, and I can understand those kinds of irony--but BC was a better team than was SC this year, and we scuttled our own ship against the Trojans like Demos doing Health Care. That upsets me. From the first series in Half 2, we owned those dudes (with whom I must live daily...) and we fumbled and tossed passes to them willy nilly--all unforced errors-- and THAT makes me say foolish things. But, I still believe that we need to do this National Champ thing soon...and that means BA degrees in winning football games to key individuals. Otherwise these ESPN cretins will always treat BC like orphan children in a bad Dickens football novel.
Yes, I love our BC seniors who underwent serious storms of unpredictable fortune in the last two years...but tonite sucked because I know we should have won, and excuses don't cut it... Hence, I shall seek respite elsewhere tonite, and rise with new hope on the morrow. Good New Year to all...and to BC's all, A Good Night... "Always Believe in BC"...
Tonight was just frustrating because it was a microcosm of BC FB. We have a legitimate opportunity to do something huuuuuuge relative to our previous accomplishments.
I loved this team, sans Shinskie, and I am willing to give Spaz some more rope after our first three quarters (even though I don't think he's the one, ultimately) I just think we have some legitimate players that the coaches need to trust and need to call plays that aren't as conservative. Some of the play calls and strategies make me bang my head against the wall. Harris is a beast, he just needs to hold onto the ball. Shinskie has made little progress this year, and our D was sneakily stingy this year - they gave up a lot of yards and big plays but held the scoring to a minimum most of the time.
Losing Gunnell is going to hurt, guy was great and almost ended his career with a sick catch. That being said, I'm excited for next year but I hope the coaches don't hold us back. Go Eagles and now time to focus on hockey.
I predicted that USC would win 35-10 and I will admit that BC played much better than I thought they would, esp. after their play in the first quarter. They had every opportunity to win the game but couldn't convert because of poor QB play and a few game changing turnovers. That being said, how stating the obvious that Shinskie was horrible and nobody made any adjustments on Williams makes me a jerk or a douche bag is laughable. Yes, I'm a jerk for vocalizing what everybody with half a brain already concluded. Shinskie was horrible and nobody made any adjustments on Williams. If pointing that out makes me a douche bag, well then so be it. I'm sick and tired of BC being annually mired in a sea of mediocrity, largely due in part to conservative coaching and low expectations. If not wanting BC to accept this mediocrity that has come to define the football program makes me a douche bag then so be it. If wanting BC to take it to the next level makes me a jerk, then good. Maybe the rest of you should become jerks as well because the football program is on a slow boat to nowhere. "Ever to Excel." Not "Ever to be Mediocre."
yo blockparty and gorgias, it's actually ironic. for being called a cynic, my expectations are actually higher than yours.
i never predicted a score.
kneeling down at the end of the 1st half is pretty emblematic as were spaz's comments at the end of the half about "keeping it close and maybe we can do something at the end." guess i'm not a big fan of the mindset.
that was a very winnable game. what exactly did i say that was so obnoxious? that shinskie stunk? wow. the refs sucked? ooh.
and gorgias, like i've said to you b4, defensive team speed, buddy. usc doesn't have it, maybe b/c they're all playing on sundays. plus, mccoy and mcknight were out. and gunnell and larmond are as fast as any of those guys, we all see as much. too bad shinskie, well, you know...
gotta get over the "we played well and weren't outclassed" mindset and get into the "we'll pound these guys" mindset.
what did i say a month ago? defensive team speed is most important. i never talked about usc. duh.
i said gunnell and larmond are as fast. not bc. hello? read lately? and i've said many times this yr that it's frustrating to finally have good speed at wr and not have a qb.
do you actually read all the way through or what?
oh, and maybe you noticed the cushion the usc wrs were getting on those repeated slants? cuz they're slow?
again. i'll even type it slowly. your comprehension skillzzz are lacking. but thanks for playing.
But please take a look at your comment on December 5 after learning that BC would be playing USC
"At 5:34 PM, CT said... cool...we'll see the difference in team speed..."
Now you say "what did i say a month ago? defensive team speed is most important. i never talked about usc. duh."
But you were talking about USC. Yes you were talking about USC and how USC team speed would make a difference. Now,of course, you'd like to walk away from your comments. You are quite the greasy weasal CTC
And its quite funny too that you, condescending CTC, need to resort to insults like "can you read" and "i'll type slowly"
mcknight and mccoy didn't play. both will play on sundays. we got lucky in that respect. i don't know if you've seen them play. that wasn't the 8 win usc team that played all yr, b/c two of their three BEST offensive weapons missed the game. take spiller off of clemson and they win 6 games.
oh, and the 2nd half...how much did we score? did we block well? why not? was williams not kinda good? their fb? their freshman-laden d front?
this is absurd. agree to disagree. but, you know, florida and texas, va tech's defense, spiller, clemson's defense, tcu's defense, oregon, and on and on...all have something in common. something bc usually doesn't have, sadly. even flutie says the same thing, homeboy.
if we have better coaches, if you're a player development guy, then why don't we win 10 games every year? in a weak conference? who don't we recruit? who can't we recruit? where did our one big play vs. usc come from?
if you don't think there's a difference...wow...good talk.
CT -- you have strayed from the topic. I am going to need to ask you to focus on the issue at hand: your fabrication that you did not say last month that USC had better, ahem, (let's say it togther) "overall team speed" than BC.

no more Wildcat...please!
perfect play for the blitz. and bad tackling. ugh.
1st miss for Kuechly that I've seen all year!
Let the slaughter begin.
and a bad kuechly miss, a little overzealous?
freaking hate these bad snaps. jesus
same pattern on every 3rd down.
setting up the corners.
usc gets some generous spots.
yeah I was thinking the same thing.... definitely gave them an extra yard on hat last one.
albright looked good on that last tackle... I think our defense will keep us in this game, and we can win it with a big play. Who will be the playmaker tonight?
I like our gold pants way more than
the white on white.
I don't like the facial expressions from Spaz, which looks like he expects to lose.
Team needs some energy on Offense, Def looks lively.
can we get one 3rd down stop tonight?
i think i agree with that call, as much as it hurts to say it
holy shit.
what an awful officiating crew.
wow.
mountain west.
What a bad call!
he was clearly out.
WTF???
first generous spots, now a blatant gift call for the Trojans...now way we will win with these refs!
under promise and OVERACHIEVE.
The Spaz way
uh oh
the ends and linebackers are horrible on the bootlegs. yikes.
it looked like when he made the catch his left foot was still down... it was close though. either way, they are beating us with both short passes AND down the field looks now. c'mon montel, break one.
i still can't get over that call.
he didn't complete the catch until he was a yard out of bounds.
well, the run defense looks pretty good. sadly, they're not running much.
embarassing. The Matt Barkley show...
perfect drive.
and then there's the kicker.
too funny.
Can we get a kicker next season please.
Great answer by BC - I think we can move the ball on this team. Hopefully we can stiffen up on the pass D.
something tells me that PAT won't be the difference... but my god
anyways, time ride montel. let this be his national coming out party, and not bleached blondie's
We can beat this team but not if we miss XPs and shotgun snap off Shinskie's shin when he's not paying attention.
Let's hope for mental focus the rest of the way. Go Eagles.
so that's what a good fullback looks like...
USC FB all night long.
Any idea why both teams just gave each other the ball on the 40 yard line?
that's part of the agreement Jim --- carroll asked spaz for no headsets and only squib kicks
obviously they've watched film and know that jeff smith is capable at any time of going 23 yds to the 25.
or maybe they played that clemson kickoff return from 2 yrs ago on loop.
Montel is a WILD ANIMAL... that was like Fletch playing for the Lakers!
We'll take it.
speed!
which team has the break-away speed???
Who can run the fastest 40s in the country???
Let's ask our senior captain after the game!!!!
At least we get the Emerald Nut commercials
Not used to seeing BC guys run away from DB's!
I ate an entire container of emerald cashews tonight is preparation.
My mindset is better than my stomach right now, but "whatever it takes".
same 3rd down pattern and same generous spot. unreal.
yeah what is going on with these spots???
DB's playing too soft
quick side note -- the announcers aren't too bad tonight... many have ripped ESPN guys all year (and rightfully so), but so far so good in my opinion.
Granted, having a BC guy behind the mike doesn't hurt. And screwing up papelbon's name is better than screwing up one of our guy's names.
That was 2 conservative at the end of the half. They should've tried to throw at least once.
Stopping to reflect for a moment. This is pretty fun. Playing USC, playing against celebrity coach Pete Carrol.

Good post Erik.
the color analysis guy is awful.

@ Erik
I love that you didn't include ND in your comment, whether it was intentional or not.
urban meyer stealing some thunder from our beloved emerald bowl.
more reason not to listen to sports talk radio in atlanta. they'll talk about it for the next three months. every day.
agreed erik. said it before and i'll say it again...play and lose better than playing and going through the motions vs. suck st. univ.
still a long way to go b4 we beat our chests.
and with that, another pathetic kickoff.
Oh Bernadine.
oh lord. another fumble close in. looks like the nd game.
Memo to Spaz/McGovern: 3rd and between 5 and 10 means USC will run an inside slant pattern. I'll bet my entire BC tuition on that.
their walk-on kicker is better than ours. must be the walk-on rivals rankings.
when the dude went to interview the 12 yr old usc fan with cancer, who just lost his eyesight, he asked him to give us his "insight."
We. Will. GO EAGLES!!!
now that was a shinksie possession.
off the target.
that's our ball!
how much does a referee cost, pete?
did tim donaghy bet on this game?
for the love of god, refs, make a correct call. one half of announcers is enough, I've had enough now.
and give the ball to montel PLEASE. 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd down. It's that simple.
mmason, are we into the 2nd blender yet?
oh.my.god.
CT is correct - these refs are in the bag. This is BAD.
omg - i guess espn has paid off the refs.
what conference are these refs from
Get Gause a damn protractor.
It's not ESPN, the announcers are as surprised as we are about these interpretations
i still cant believe that forced into contact what a bunch a crap
Watching in a USC heavy environment, and even they think this officiating is crap. What did the boosters give the refs?
refs are mountain west conference.
hey tranq, a bootleg might work. you awake?
Justice - but a 50 yard difference.
well the field cost them 3 and us 1..... I like BC's energy right now. Just please..... no passes out into the flat (or anywhere else, really)
If I didn't like TCU, I'd be asking if Mountain West was a real football conference ;) Totally kidding (sort of with these guys)!
shinksie is like rob deer.
homerun or strikeout.
Shinskie, Shinskie, Shinskie.
If Harris is gone we're really behind the 8 ball.
Morrissy was just held and was not called either....fucking sectacular. Thank god for Kuechly
ROB DEER!??!?! Ouch - another tortured Brewer fan. Of course - at least Deer hit 220. Shinskie bearly beaks the mendoza line.
hopefully montel just had the wind knocked out or something like that.... clearly his lower body was ok.......
i gotta give claiborne credit. he had that one dumb late hit penalty. but his ability to run into the camera shot and congratulate everybody after every play is inspiring. he's encouraged me to run to the fridge for another beer. i hope he's there to give me a high 5.
3rd and 1...shotgun throw?
is that a joke?
not a funny one
tough to understand that
that was the shinskie throw we were waiting for.
he's been pretty bad other than the 2nd qtr.
You knew that was coming. We could beat this team with a half decent QB.
i hope the trainer told the coaches montel was one hit away from a broken hip. that would be the only excuse i would accept.
i'm over the shinksie experiment.
no improvement.
first guy covered? major issues.
you can't let one receiver beat you w/ double coverage. bad safety play.
24 - 13 is tough, unless Jeff Smith runs one back.
Can't believe USC is kicking short.
With all due respect to Shinskie, it's tough for me to like the dude.
no worries....this high-powered offense, innovative offensive coordinator, and dynamic head coach are built to outscore teams.
One of these incoming freshmen should be able to beat him out.
Dear Spaz,
I'll give credit where credit is due...the team played better than I thought they would for much of the game.
Now please go out and get an 18 year old quarterback.
Sincerely,
Goberry
nice knowing you shinskie. I never want to see you take a snap after this year again.
my lord. shinksie decides b4 the play starts where he's throwing the ball.
with a qb like this, i really wish the refs got the long pass play and the punt fumble calls right. we have no margin for error.
glad we made adjustments on covering williams.
brilliant.
Commence the 15 minute ESPN/USC slurp-job down the stretch.
I really do not want to see 3 and out. Can we come up with something to sustain a (quick) drive? It seems as though there has been less substituting in this game. The same players have been on the field all night.
the game has gotten very predictable of late.... if that continues, a pic (6) is probably in order here, making the game look like a blowout.
though i won't lose hope, i guess
The old college try - slide down before the first down.
The game has been predictable all year - even to casual fans. PATHETIC.
shinskie is awful.
'nuff said.
I feel bad for Gunnell. I'm over Shinskie.
We've got some very good players. It must be tough playing for this team.
I feel bad for this defense. Played their hearts out, and kept this team in it almost all the way down to the wire. If only we had a competent offense, we could have done something with that effort.
Too bad - good night all - Happy New Year. Thanks seniors - you played very well.
Pathetic.
Let's hope CT and BravesBill take their negative-nancy, cynical know-it -all bull#%$# and take a hike. You guys suck. Real douche bags.
sorry to see gunnell and the rest of the seniors go out like that...but, given the qb, not a hard call.
the refs sucked.
nobody did anything different on williams.
shinskie is the same now as he was 8 wks ago.
i have more respect for montel than any bc running back i can remember. but that fumble sucked. i bet he took his eye off the ball.
keek the freak is fun to watch.
our o-line doesn't pass protect very well. surprised we didn't max protect more and run 2 wr routes.
thought tranq had a good 2nd qtr and horrible 3rd and early 4th, until the game was decided.
team will go only so far as its qb. that sux.
merry christmas, blockparty. and happy new year.
is Rettig enrolling in january? i sure hope so, shinskie does not seem to have much upside. its so obvious where he's going with it + horrible decision making. no thank you. those announcers were tough to listen to.

"Ever to Excel." Not "Ever to be Mediocre."
yo blockparty and gorgias, it's actually ironic. for being called a cynic, my expectations are actually higher than yours.
i never predicted a score.
kneeling down at the end of the 1st half is pretty emblematic as were spaz's comments at the end of the half about "keeping it close and maybe we can do something at the end." guess i'm not a big fan of the mindset.
that was a very winnable game. what exactly did i say that was so obnoxious? that shinskie stunk? wow. the refs sucked? ooh.
and gorgias, like i've said to you b4, defensive team speed, buddy. usc doesn't have it, maybe b/c they're all playing on sundays. plus, mccoy and mcknight were out. and gunnell and larmond are as fast as any of those guys, we all see as much. too bad shinskie, well, you know...
gotta get over the "we played well and weren't outclassed" mindset and get into the "we'll pound these guys" mindset.
my .02
CT -- You've done a 180.
Now you are saying that USC does not have "overall team" speed on D and that BC guys are just as fast as USC.
But that's not what you said a month ago, is it?
CTC, you are full of it.
gorgias, you're turdy.
what did i say a month ago? defensive team speed is most important. i never talked about usc. duh.
i said gunnell and larmond are as fast. not bc. hello? read lately? and i've said many times this yr that it's frustrating to finally have good speed at wr and not have a qb.
do you actually read all the way through or what?
oh, and maybe you noticed the cushion the usc wrs were getting on those repeated slants? cuz they're slow?
again. i'll even type it slowly. your comprehension skillzzz are lacking. but thanks for playing.
CTC -- I am turdy? Is that from 2nd grade?
Now fess up.
usc was, is, and will always be faster than bc.
can you mitigate it? yes. play zone. run up the middle. screens. bc loves to do that. or get beat man-to-man in triple coverage.
ha.
i mean, come on. i'm tired of this. it's not even two-sided.
greasy weasel?
mom, is that you?
