As I tweeted this morning, Vanilla Ice is scheduled to be part of Ice Jam. I've hedged a bit because this all just seems "to the extreme" (bad pun intended). I could be getting played, but my source was adamant. I don't know how it will go over, but you can't blame BC for trying something different.

Vanilla Ice at Ice Jam?

I thought he was busy flipping houses?
I don't know why I care, but I really hope students show up for this event. I guess I just don't want my school to be a bunch of party poopers that are "too cool." An empty arena after this much effort supporting a new vibrant basketball coach and a defending national champion hockey team would be depressing.
They were playing an odd amount of Vanilla Ice at the football game
Ice Ice Baby was realeased in 1989, at which point half of the current undergrads were not even born yet, and the rest were still in diapers. They might as well have KC and the Sunshine Band perform.
It's listed on his website (vanillaice.com) under tour dates, so i'm certain its happening.
10/26: Boston College
Hosting/Judging with Bob Costas; Rob will also do 2 song track performance)
Funny, Vanilla Ice came to BC about 8 years ago, the fall of my freshman year. He performed in the Rat.
He has 2 songs???
He did perform with his crap band in the Rat years back. Nobody really cared about his band; everyone just wanted to see his Ice Ice Baby performance.
he came first 8 years ago and then again a few years after that...this is typical for BC though. rather than get a legit act in there, they go for a retread and hope to gain points for having a sense of humor by playing on irony when the fact of the matter is that they don't want to spring for anything more.
i appreciate the effort though as it is better than anything we have had before and i plan on being there.
btw...his second song would probably be play that funky music white boy. that got decent airplay once upon a time didn't it?
I guess M.C. Hammer was booked. Anyway, why didn't they get the Dropkick Murphys? Their rendition of For Boston is great, and the students love (or are at least familiar with) Shippin' up to Boston. And aren't some of the band members BC guys?
A few went to BC high I believe. But none of their songs are about ice.
And, looking at his tour schedule, how lucky is it he's able to squeeze BC in? Between Q Billiards & Sports Bar in Darin, IL and the Scranton Hardware Bar in Scranton, PA, it looks like he's booked solid.
This is an embarrassment, unless you like colleges with absurdist humor.
Now I know why it was a surprise musical guest. They knew telling people would likely only hurt attendance.
Mod: I agree it is an embarrassment. What initially seemed like a legit and fun event has turned into a joke
BC scored a major coup by getting Bob Costas to come, and then this...egad
Maybe Tranquill will play the drums - what a selection! Not surprising, however, with this AD crew. Wow!
A33Jim cracked me up.
Hey Gene - howaya?
Some of you guys would bitch if you found $10 on the ground because you had to bend down to pick it up.
First, the point of the night is supposed to be the teams/players. I don't think you'd want to attach a full concert to it. Given that, you need someone who will come in to do only one or two songs. Guess what? U2 isn't doing that.
Plus, I actually like the thematic consistency with Ice Jam. This isn't the highlight of the show (that would be the teams, then Costas).
Also, the current students are young enough that this has a bit of retro cool to it.
