Everybody loves Ice Jam and other links

Give credit where it is due, BC has turned "Ice Jam" into something. The second annual event went off without a hitch and all the reviews were positive. WZBC took advantage of the event and interviewed plenty of players. Remember to give them a listen now and then during games.

BC continues to graduate a high percentage of our athletes. We tied Duke and only trailed Notre Dame in graduation rate succes.

Mark Herzlich will be on 60 Minutes this Sunday.

Ice Jam is back and other links

When the inaugural Ice Jam was announced, no one knew what to make of it. Take a dash of hockey, include a little hoops, throw in some Vanilla Ice and ask Bob Costas to host. It could have been a disaster, but turned into a great, positive event. The second annual Jam will take place October 27. No announcements have been made regarding the entertainers invited to participate this year. But once you've seen Ice and Costas everything else pales in comparison.

Kuechly keeps moving up the NFL raft boards. For BC's sake I would love him to stay, but it doesn't make sense if you are a first rounder.

Here is more on our newest recruit Joe Rohan.

Duggan update and other links

Here is the update on Sean Duggan at Eagle Insider. This is shaping up to be a huge recruiting weekend for Spaz.

Alex Murphy keeps narrowing his list of schools and BC keeps making the cut. I know Donahue and Co are working him hard.

BC continues to lead the nation in GSR ratings (the sports grad rate measurement).

BCI has a great post on our ineptitude in the redzone. I think the redzone failure is the biggest indictment in the talent vs scheme issue. We are able to move the ball a bit into the redzone yet cannot finish drives. We don't have a goalline/redzone package the we can execute with any consistency.

Alex Albright might be able to play in a bowl if we get there. I hope the team uses it as a rallying point.

Finally, one of the highlights of Ice Jam.

Vanilla Ice at Ice Jam?

As I tweeted this morning, Vanilla Ice is scheduled to be part of Ice Jam. I've hedged a bit because this all just seems "to the extreme" (bad pun intended). I could be getting played, but my source was adamant. I don't know how it will go over, but you can't blame BC for trying something different.

BC Marketing makes bold move with ICE JAM

Why have a ho hum old Midnight Madness when you can have a four team, two sport smorgasbord christened "ICE JAM"?

The first ever event of its kind will include a half a basketball court and a half a rink. Celebrity parent and really nice guy Bob Costas will host the event on October 26. It's free so I hope students show up in force for the contests and displays.

For years people have whined about not having Midnight Madness. While confusing and potentially awkward, this show/pep rally/event is a nice new step by BC. I am glad Steve Donahue is on board, because in addition to the Xs and Os, we need him to sell BC basketball.

I don't know if this will work, but BC deserves credit for trying.
