A word on recruiting violations and BC websites

Eagle Action posted an article (since removed) on the two Cincinnati recruits and their upcoming visit. In the article their former St. Xavier teammate Luke Kuechly said this: "My main thing that I'm going to be very honest with them about things." Silly and innocent as it seems, that is an NCAA recruiting violation. The official rule states that schools, players and/or team official cannot speak to any media about specific recruits until after signing day. What happened with Eagle Action is very, very minor and shouldn't be a big concern. BC probably self reported the violation so that no one else would blow the whistle on them and make it look worse.

Although I personally haven't done any recruiting reporting for Scout.com since my affiliation with Eagle Insider, Scout has made clear any potential hazards and asked me to hammer home those tricky NCAA gray areas to my contributors (first the BC Draft crew and then the other Scout guys). My interaction with BC folks on recruiting was equally stringent. They wouldn't even broach specifics. That's why this mistake from Eagle Action is so surprising. I've had my issues with EA in the past, but I will give them credit for having the most in-depth BC recruiting coverage for a decade now. They should have known better.

When the smoke clears, I don't think anything will come of this. If we don't close on Duggan and Daniels it will most likely be about the program and not the websites.

I think the most disturbing thing about that article is the quote from Keuchly - it didn't exactly sound like he's full of positivity about the program to sell the recruits on. Not that that's surprising.

Looks like HD is having some mercy on us and using her reverse good luck to help us win this week. She's picking Clemson by 14 and citing Ellington having a big day running as a reson. Last I checked stopping the run is about the only thing we still do well. I think she likes Spaz and wants to cool his seat with her bizarro pick.

I think I've seen about 125 TOB-coached games in my life, and he's never one worn a decent looking hat. Always ugly.

Yeah man, aside from the NCAA stuff, that quote is awful. Would you say that if you weren't upset with something beyond the team's record? Not good.

Keuchly's truth: I was able to start as a true freshman, I have 97 tackles through 7 games, I will be an All American and I will make a boatload of money one day.

Where's the problem?

That hat was worn in honor of fighting breast cancer, hence the pink.

Very frustrating to watch NC State snatch a victory that they should not have had. FSU had a layup touchdown on that play and Ponder bumped into his own running back. What an idiot.

"BC consulted with the Atlantic Coast Conference and will self-report this as a Level 2 (secondary) violation. The only penalty/action is rules education"

Also, bye bye Phifer. Too bad. Time ofr Andre Williams to really step up. BTW, he looks like a beast in pads. (visually I mean, not necessarily on execution of plays). Hopefully he has a nice future here.

What's the status of Rolandan Finch's recuperation after he tore up his knee? I thought we had a winner in that guy - "Earned 2008 Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year honors as a senior running back at St. Xavier; also selected as Kentucky's Mr. Football in 2008 ..."

Dan - Maybe Keuchly actually cares about wins and losses. And maybe he has insights into the program that extend beyond his personal stats.

Nice win for NCSU last night. EagleLA -- I'd rather see TOB win than Jimbo Fisher win. Also, each win by FSU brings on more media stories about FSU being "back" to elite NCAA levels -- that will only enhance FSU's recruiting to BC's detriment (not in competing for FSU recruits, but in getting beat by FSU).

To bad about Sterlin P. Luv to know why he could not hack it and turned his back on his teammates mid season ala Haden.

Philips is out again . . hope he is not another injury-prone guy who never gets the chance to live up to his potential.

Is it just my imagination or do we have a lot more players leaving the team under Spaz than under previous coaches?
