More opponent previews and other links

Although each game is its own event, I do think college football -- with its short season and young players -- lends itself to game to game momentum. That comes into play with Syracuse since we face them at the end of the season again and they have a bear of a schedule (as USA Today's preview points out). They play Notre Dame, Maryland and at Central Michigan out of conference. I think there is a good chance they are out of bowl contention before the come to Boston. Let's hope they have thrown in the towel by then.

Virginia Tech is another team we get late in the season. This preview emphasizes what we already know: their D will be good and their offense will be a question mark all year.

Colorado State returns all of their key offensive starters and might be a tougher opponent than we think.

Kuechly talked about BC football.

Some people have counted Colorado State as an automatic win.

I don't know where that comes from.

I think we should win, but it's no slam dunk. A potentially very tough game.

We have got to beat Syracuse for sure.

a victory over VT in Blacksburg is tough - but sweet when it happens.

Go BC - Beat UMass.

One game at a time in 2014.

Good point BJK.

CSU is a 50/50 proposition at best. They have a QB who can pass and TE/WRs who can run routes and catch. (Gulp, as I think of our secondary) but their OL is new/rebuilding. Look for Don Brown to blitz like mad. It is a long distance road came for CSU too -so that helps.

But why did BC schedule CSU? Not a smart scheduling choice. Very little upside, and huge downside.

Are the MAC cupcakes turning us down?

Off topic, but this NCAA case is interesting.

.............. Delany spoke of his desire to return to a system in which freshmen are ineligible to play varsity sports. That was the rule when he was in Chapel Hill and Delany believes that year in residence would be a "silver bullet" to help athletes who are at-risk students adjust to the rigors of college coursework.

He also said that "when basketball season is over, they probably should just put a lock on the gym."

Yeah, right. When they started paying coaches exorbitant salaries, reasonable demands on the players and their time went out the window.
