Coaches spend countless hours texting and calling, and schools build shiny new facilities all in an effort to impress new recruits. But the most underrated tool in recruiting remains current players. They host potential recruits and they create the team culture.
When things turned bad under Spaz, the players were the canaries in the coal mine. You could see their comments on social media and read between the lines on recruiting stories. If the current players are not buying in, it is that much harder for recruits to buy into a coach or potential program. I think the current players believe in BC and in Addazio. The most recent example is Jonathan Hilliman's tweet about potential transfer Matt Hegarty.
I have no idea if Hilliman has any prior relationship with Hegarty. The former Notre Dame player is from New Mexico, so there is no obvious connection. I don't know if Hegarty is interested in BC or if the staff wants him, but it is a great sign that our current players want him. If they are this excited about a transfer, imagine what they are saying to the high school kids that come to campus.
Hilliman is only one guy, but he's one of our best young players. Let's hope other players believe in BC like he does and want great recruits and transfers to join the team.

To all the detractors who think we're "losing ground" or "missing out" or whatever you want to call it with "important" states like PA, OH, or NJ... Hilliman should really quiet you, immediately. He was a 4 star recruit, committed to Rutgers, that Daz flipped at the last minute. He was one of the best recruits in NJ, at one of the best football schools in the state, and he has truly embraced a leadership role as a true freshman. You can read the quotes about why he flipped a year ago and tell this kid is not only the real deal, but a great ambassador for BC football. I don't care what state or school we get players from, but more like him would be appreciated (and consistently winning, again). That being said, if there is a player that could take us to the next level of recruiting, my money is on Jonathan... the 4 star recruit that flipped to a 2-10 team from one of the best football schools in the northeast, and country.
I don't get the big deal about where the players come from. I want good players period. I could care less where they come from. If Hilliman came fron Alaska, would that make him any less good?

Seriously??, getting 1 very good player from NJ is enough for you to conclude BC is doing well in recruing in NJ, PA and OH.
BC is targting OH, PA, and NJ heavily. So obviously BC thinks those are important areas to target.
you with me? so far so good.
But look at the results. We are not attracting significant amount of talent from those states like we should - Hilliman notwithstanding.
Mod,
You are mentally ill.
Knucklehead, skip the bullshit.....
Not to be too cynical, but Hillman's tweet could reflect lack of confidence in Galik's replacement as much as it it does about his Eagle enthusiasm.
I missed the part where Rutgers is one of the best football schools in the country.

Eagle1331 means Hilliman's high school. Not RU.
Mod, it's gotten to the point when ATL posts something, I'm surprised when I don't see a cynical comment from you.
blist.
I was not commenting on ATL's post. I was responding to eagle1331 cheer that "Hilliman makes it all okay."
Is my response cynical? No, its not. It is a response citing actual facts - which you can choose to accept or you can simply deny them as uncomfortable, inconvenient facts.
What's your view of Daz's recruiting? (a more intersting topic then your opinion about my posts)
Mod,
Your online persona is classless. Bet you are 40 years old and have 5 roommates. Just like the Mods right?
Knuckles, go find something useful to do and stick to sports here.
