Teenagers are flaky, Example 697

One day after news broke that Don Brown was headed to Michigan, BC verbal KJ Gray announced he was reopening his recruitment. Although Brown was involved in recruiting Gray, don't attribute it all to his departure. Most recruiting observers viewed Gray as a soft commitment for weeks. Unfortunately from social media, people can track what these recruits do, follow and say. Gray never really seemed locked in on BC. Taking more visits falls in line with what observers felt. Plus, in media reports Gray even admits he wasn't sure he wanted to play defense at BC and is now considering offense.

Aside from his ranking, I don't know much about Gray. If Brown liked him as a DB, then I view it as a loss. But I also think BC needs guys who are buying in regardless of the coordinator or position coach. We are coming off a terrible season. Everyone coming in needs to commit towards turning around. If Gray comes back to BC, I will be happy. But getting too concerned about teenagers who are changing their minds daily, is a waste of time. Recruits flipped on us before Don Brown and will flip after.

Buy in? He isn't on the team. The coaches' job is to get good players on campus then get them to buy in. Maybe the bigger problem is that there isn't much for Adazzio and his staff to sell. The biggest asset you could objectively point to is packing his bags for Ann Arbot. But that's not a loss b/c he wasn't buying in right?

I bet we win one by sheer luck... but I wouldn't wager on two.

I checked Sagarin NCAA rankings

BC comes in at #203!

next closest bad ACC team appears to be Clemson at a full 100 steps higher at 103.

Thanks BB. We have a pile of dog shit for football and a pile of cow shit for basketball.

Could it get any worse? Ranked 203, are you friggin kidding me?

mod - sometimes your fancy stats don't really tell the story. its really too early to tell - case in point, BC at 207 has wins over Harvard (152) and Fordham (106).

ACC W/L will really be the barometer for how good this team is. i doubt we see more than a handful of wins there, which is just about how good this team is this year. for reference, the 11-12 Eagles (which featured pretty much all freshmen, like this team) went 9-22 on the season and 4-12 in conference play. i think these freshmen (JROB, AJ, SBT, Meznieks, Millon, Dialo) are better than those freshmen (Clifford, Anderson, Lonnie Jackson, Jordan Daniels, Caudill, Heckman), so hopefully we exceed the 4-12 record they set.

fun facts - former Eagle Ryan Anderson leads #13 Arizona in PPG (16) and RPG (10). former Eagle Joe Rahon is averaging 11 ppg 7 apg 1 spg for St Mary's, currently 9-1 in the WCC.

^ sorry for double post.

good win for the team today but... damn. the acc is loaded. maybe we beat clemson and have a run at FSU?

mod34b said...

el miz, the stats are just math facts. nothing fancy. rankings, which is what the #203 is, are quasi math.

the conclusions to be drawn - or not to be drawn - are up to you

glad they won today.

ccw said...

Uh, the math is pretty telling. If you want to get all phony philosophical then go ahead. But the data says we're a very bad power conference basketball team. I'd be shocked if the data said anything different by year end.

I was at the game and Va Tech played before us. ST. Joes handled them pretty easily, so we'll have a shot against them IMO. I agree w/ MIZ that this group of Frosh. Is better than O nahue's group. The problem is the league is so much better w/ the addition of Lville and all. BC probably doesn't belong in this Hoop league, but as they say, it is what it is.
