Addazio is putting last year behind him

Give Addazio credit. He continues to show nothing but confidence. If he is right about his talent evaluations, this team should be fine.

You know, ATL, that Daz is full of baloney and always has been? Right? Not exactly an honest guy. A (bad) salesman. We're supposed to actually believe his "nothing but confidence" Schtick?

Hilarious.

@BCBCBC: In the case of "mod34b", it just so happens that he is right. The Dazzler has an eight year deal at 2.6 million per. Brian Kelly has a base salary of 900K. There is nothing wrong with holding his feet to the fire. He has a second honeymoon until Dublin. Until then, the cannons are silent but already filled with grapeshot. If you want to walk down the pristine path with no accountability quotient, Then walk on down with the rest of the quackers.

Thank you JBQ.

BCBCBC Hmmm. On team Daz perhaps? Been drinking the Daz KoolAid.? I am thinking that you are believing DAz. Too funny....

Addazio apologists will have a banner year - BC's schedule should allow for 7-8 wins and DAZ will be a "Top Notch " coach and might get another raise from BB !!!!Will be fun watching all the "National Powers" coming to Alumni Stadium - Wagner , Buffalo et al. Thank God that I gave up my tickets. So , how is the competition at QB playing out ???

I am not a huge fan of daz but you are just a negative asshole....never have any positive things to say and certainly nothing of value. U are just a miserable prick.

mod34b said...

poor BCBCBCBCBCBC he wants happy talk.... I didn't know you read all my posts and knew everything I said.. I've never seen you comment before... read more closely, realism does not equal negative. If the Daz reality is painful to read, well join the club. I want nothing more that to see BC back in the top 20 as BC has done some many times before...

So, in your 'happy view', saying truthfully that Daz is a bullshit is too much for your tender ears... tell me are you part of the generation that got 'participation trophies?" I'm guessing yes.

BCBCBC said...

bullshit. You want nothing more than BC to fail....its obvious.

Geezer eagle said...

BCBC
You attack Mod (who has his facts together) with vulgar slurs and nothing to back up your insults. What community college did you really go to?

BCBCBC said...

read his posts...they are all the same and all he does is spew hatred for BC....he's a fraud. I am all for constructive criticism and the program deserves it, but when its the same bullshit over and over and over, it gets old and tired.

Geezer eagle said...

Prove him wrong. He merely points out that beating five junior varsity teams ,( Wagner, Buffalo. UMass. Etc) and ending the season with seven victories is meaningless. Bates and Daz have stacked the deck.

BCBCBC said...

First of all, scheduling is a stupid argument...everyone schedules shitty teams. Second, Mod never even mentioned scheduling so I have no idea what you are referring to. Third,I am not referring to a single post, I am merely saying that he consistently brings a negative spin to EVERYTHING...he wants BC to fail because he is a negative nancy. Recruiting has picked up this year....we have two healthy QBs and a ton of returning players and had an incredible defense last year. I am hoping for a good season, and although I have my doubts about daz as a coach, I am not gonna sit here and shit on everything he says, especially when he is displaying a positive and optimistic attitude. Mod is a miserable prick.

Geezer eagle said...

Wow. Anger management therapy. BC, I wish I could share your optimism, but there are no blue-chip recruits in the pipeline. Sure we will be better than last year ( How can we not be?), but we are a long way off being able to compete with the big boys.

mod34b said...

BCBCBC. Share you knowledge of football rather some misplaced anger to be. (Who do I represent for you?)

Tell us why BC with Daz is a good thing.

Your opinions about me is just a waste of pixels. Honestly who gives a Ray's ass that you don't like me. I don't.

Georgia, BC has never had blue chip recruits. Due to a number of issues including Boston being a pro sports town, academic standards and lack of fan support, BC struggles to get the 4 and 5 star recruits. Just look at the TOB and Jags recruiting rankings. Mostly 2 and 3 star performers. Look at the BC players in the NFL. Again, mostly 2 and 3 star recruits. BC's strategy for years has been to find the hard-working, lunch bucket guys with a chip on their shoulders. They then develop those players and get them in alignment as one team with a common vision. This philosophy has worked for BC going all the way back to the Bicknell era. I've been following BC since 1983 and whenever we stray from this strategy, we have issues (Henning, Spaz). I can understand the negativity and frustration towards Daz. However, I also know what he inherited and the challenges of coaching at BC versus most of the other Power 5 teams. You have to be patient. This year, we need to get back to a bowl. Next year, in Year 5, we need to be at 8 wins. If we fail at either, he needs to go.

Geezer eagle said...

Eagle,
I agree with your analysis . I really do, but the quality of our recruits has sunk to new lows under the Spaz and Daz regimes. Surely we should be capable of attracting the same scholar athletes as the Stanfords and Northwesterns of the world. Our coaches, ADs and administrators simply suck!

Bravesbill said...

For all their faults, TOB and Al were able to develop talent. Daz and to a lesser extent Christian have not shown any ability to do so. I posted on here a whole lot more back in the day but Mod's insightful analysis makes me not need to.

Georgia - Landry, a 4-star DAZ recruit who had offers from Clemson, Auburn, FSU, Ohio State, has started basically since arriving as a freshman. he was one of our best players last year, and Pro Football Focus, a website that grades every single player on every single play, rates him one of the top 50 players in college football heading into next season. he will be a true junior. he isn't a "blue chipper"?

Jon Hilliman was a 4-star DAZ recruit. who had offers from, among others, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, and Tennessee, was an 3rd team All Acc as a true freshman. he broke his foot last year in game 3 but will be the work horse again this year. is he not a blue chipper?

Connor Strachan was a 4-star DAZ recruit from our own backyard in MA. not sure what games you were watching last year but he was right there with Daniels as our best linebacker. he'll be starting as MLB as a true junior.

echoing BCBC, i have my own problems with Daz (the lack of imagination in the play-calling, the meltdowns on the sideline, etc) but its just an inaccurate portrayal of the program to say we are getting a bunch of 2* mac players.

ranking regional athletics among 14-17 yr old high school boys is tough so the recruiting services let the colleges do the work for them. they are REACTIVE. a few years ago BC and Clemson were the Final 2 for Christian Wilkins, DT from CT. he was a 4* recruit, took a bunch of visits to BC. at the last minute he went to Clemson (where he started for them as a true freshman). upon picking Clemson he was universally moved from 4* to 5*. did he all of a sudden become a way better player? no, he just went to Clemson.

BC has a guy from RI named Kwity Paye committed for next year. he was a 3* recruit. he did a summer camp at ND and they were apparently interested - that alone got him bumped to 4*. its summer - he hasn't played any games recently. how did he all of a sudden go from average to slightly above average? simply because ND apparently liked him, that's how silly this whole process is.

if you GO to a football factory or have interest from them, your assessment moves up. if you commit to BC early in the process, you are a 3*. its the nature of the beast. go back to Matt Ryan or Kuechly (who was a 3* who undoubtedly would have moved up to 4 if Ohio State had taken him on), or BJ Raji - those guys were 2-3* recruits.

we had the #1 D in the country last year with many of the guys being Addazio recruits - its just not in line with reality to be posting every 4 hours about how we are on the brink of being UMASS.

Geezer eagle said...

Nah, not UMass, more like Central Michigan, Temple, and Northern Illinois. With a good coach like Tom O'Brien and Coughlin , and current recruiting levels, we should get back to minor bowl status. I want Standard level success. Screw ND. They sold their soul to become a football factory.

Geezer eagle said...

I would even be happy with Navy level success. Like I tell women. I'm easy to please 😃

Mod,
No one on this site has a choice but to read your posts. You write bullshit post after bullshit post to enflame people and then you get "holier-than-thou" and passive aggressive when people respond. It is on and on and on with the "poor me" routine and trying to displace your warped shit onto other people for reading it. A shrink would a have a "field day" working with you.

Georgia,
Nobody wants to play Boston College. Back in the 30's Yale dropped BC because the Fighting Irish beat the hell out of them physically on the field. In the 70's we beat Texas in Chestnut Hill. In the 80's Doug beat everyone except Penn State including Alabama, Clemson and Miami. In the 90's it was Georgia, VT, Notre Dame and Penn State. Two years ago this crew beat USC. With the advent of 9-10 conference games NOBODY is going out on a limb to play a team that is traditionally stacked with tough smart players. So quit whining about the schedule it isn't going to change. The current conference schedule is enough for this crew by the way.

Great post El Miz! Thanks for sharing some thoughtful and sensible analysis. Honestly it's amazing to me some of the people on this blog even call themselves fans. Their negativity and all around hater attitude does nobody any good. Why don't they go root for another team that only gets 5 star recruits and wins 10 games every year? It's not fair to the boys on the team that are working their asses off every day all year to get better and give those same fans something they can be proud of! These demeaning comments about how they are just lowly 2 or 3 star players is ridiculous. Your commentary exposes that. We have solid players and I am confident that we will see improvement this year. Will we be in the National Championship game like some of these fans apparently want and expect? Probably not...Do they not think that the players and coaches for that matter were just as embarrassed and disappointed with last years results and are doing everything they can to get better? How about people get behind the players and coaches and offer them some positive energy and support. If you want to just hate and complain go somewhere else. The team we have is the team we have and if people aren't going to support them then go elsewhere.

Reid's
There is no criticism of the athletes themselves. Proud of the kids and their efforts. The criticism is directed at the leadership cadre. Why accept the current status quo and the mediocrity it breeds? Where is your anger and outrage? The alumns need to rise up and demand excellence at all levels.

mod34b said...

Rei. On your first post you tell us "If you want to just hate and complain go somewhere else. ". Really??? What chutzpah

Georgia is right on the money. BC historically has done well with 3* recruits. But it takes a really good coach to do that- to create excellence. Takes careful recruiting too Most recently, we see what Don Brown could do with a group of BC players. We also saw what Daz could not do. Last year was a very black and white story of who excelled and who did not. Being a fan means not accepting garage coaching. - not enabling mediocrity

I think Daz is not a good fit for BC. Many agree with that assessment. Not to many are convinced that Daz is the right fit for BC. Are you?

But if you ar unaware of why he stinks, and you need to be happy with Daz and you really want to show it, we'll just clap your hands. It might work. (Click your heels too)

ReiDaDor said...

I think demanding excellence is a good thing Eagle but the anger and criticism I feel is unjustified at times. Sure after last season there should be some anger and outrage but many factors probably contributed to that. I copied some comments I've seen on this blog recently and you tell me if these are reflective of "no criticism of the athletes"....just an observation..

"the quality of our recruits has sunk to new lows under the Spaz and Daz regimes."

"BCs 2 star recruits versus the rest of the ACCs 3 and 4 star recruits"

"Where are the three star recruits that will make us competitive?"

"He simply hasn't recruited the talent"

Comments like this to me are a criticism of the athletes....If I'm a player on that team I don't view that as support...

mod34b said...

By the way, El Miz is missing the forest for trees.- focusing on a good player (tree) who arrives at BC every year in very small numbers , but ignore the team recruiting as a whole (forest) He is also - as usual - distorting information to fit his "it's all good guys, really!" Agenda

Geezer eagle said...

Reid, again, it's criticism of the horrendous recruiting and coaching, not the players themselves. Several of the two stars will exceed expectations (as pointed out) and have stand out careers. Unfortunately, most -despite their best efforts - are simply over their heads and not ACC material. Again, if Navy, Stanford ,and Northwestern can do it, why not us? That's the whole point !!!

ReiDaDor said...

I hear ya Eagle..fair enough...Let's hope we are proven wrong and our 2/3 stars develop into stud players! I am hopeful for this year and agree with a lot of what some people have said in that it will ultimately come down to the O line. If they can prove to be respectable and open holes and provide time for the QB to throw I think we will be in good shape as the defense should be solid once again. Time will tell....
