Looking at Addazio's inconsistency on philosophies

Addazio has spent the whole offseason saying the Defense won't change now that Don Brown is gone. He says that the terminology is the same, the personnel and of course the aggressiveness. While Reid won't be running a system he put together, he has enough experience in football that this shouldn't be a problem. Plus Paul Pasqualoni -- who used Don Brown at UConn -- is around to fill in any gaps. I am fine with this idea of keeping the system after its founder is gone. Limited practice time and specialized recruiting help "systems" work in College Football, as opposed to the NFL where you have to do it all. What I find interesting is that Addazio is married to a Defensive System, yet keeps changing his offense each year. You wouldn't expect that from an offensive guy.

Articles like this reinforce the idea that Loeffler is going to make drastic changes to BC's offense. Much more passing and more downfield plays. We probably have the QB to do this, but I don't know if we have the OLine to protect him or the playmakers to leverage it. We will see once the games begin. But what if BC struggles again? Will Addazio try something else next year?

I don't know how intentional it was, but Addazio stumbled into something beautiful and brilliant in his second year. Because of the personnel and coaching, BC ran a scheme that was part Oregon and part Stanford. We couldn't throw well, but we had a unique and electric offense. Instead of keeping that unique style, Addazio scrapped it when Murphy left and Offensive Coordinator Ryan Day went to the NFL. Last year we started in a more traditional pocket passing, power game. Once Wade got hurt we struggled to do anything. That is where the lack of a system comes into play. If Addazio was truly building an offense -- not just adjusting to players and his OC -- he would have been able to better plug in a replacement for Wade. We will have the same issues this year if a QB goes down or no one can catch.

Maybe Loeffler is finally running the Offense Addazio wants. Maybe we will be power running with play action for deep balls. I don't care. I just want him to find something that works and stick with it.

ATL, it looks like you are coming to grips with a basic truth; Daz is full of it. He does not how to recruit an OL or implement an offense. and he is touted as an Offense Guy and Recruiter. Please.

Honesty, what on earth did Uber coach Urban Meyer see in Daz? baffling.

It is year 4.

Earlier this year, Daz was asked about the D and the loss of Brown. He shot back "I am still here" and basically said the defense was his and that he would continue with the same approach. what a load of baloney.

Daz was smart to bring in Brown and give him a lot of room - his best move at BC - but that defense was all Donnie Brown. None of it was Daz. (and thank god for that)

also, in year 2 BC had an "electric offense"?

nyet

BC was 12/14 in ACC play in total offense and 90th national against FBS opponents in total offense. 86th nationally vs FBS in scoring

despite the luv of happy talk here, the 2nd year O under Daz was not even mediocre. We had exciting play by a top athlete - Murphy. unique and tough to repeat.

i said last year we should have put Willis at QB (his HS position) and run the Murphy offense for the rest of the season. changing of the schemes is troubling. Dazzler only gets one more shot, so this better work.

Willis at QB would be bad. He went to my HS. Triple option for 30 yrs now.

Agree with the premise, however. Daz is a spread option guy. Wade is not that. Towels is not that. Smith is not that. Just as you recruit to a zone or man blocking scheme at OL, you'd think Daz would recruit the most important position to his scheme. Maybe Brown? Who knows?

Doesn't matter what offense you run if you can't block. Football people have said forever that it all starts up front. In a couple of weeks we get to see what Daz has done about his big problem. We could have had Watson running the spread for us last year and it wouldn't have mattered, the results would have been the same.

He has been structuring the offense based on the strength of the team, he said so. Oline and running back were good so he went that route with Andre Williams. Florida QB was the strength so he used him. There were no discernible strengths last year. This year who knows. If Father Charlie Callinan is the best WR we have then we are in trouble again there. We haven't had a decent TE in 10 years. That is a position where we have fallen off dramatically. Had NFL talent there consistently for 15 years, Spaz ruined that too.

Rumor is Willis is the 2nd string RB. Bizarre, he is best RB we have. The moose from Rutgers is plodding, slow to the hole. Useful for softening D and goaline. That is it. Willis should be the starter. Darkhorse 4-5th round NFL draft pick if he is used and stays healthy.

. . . he can catch. Look for him and Bobby Wolford to catch some wheels this season.

Knucklehead said...

I love the wheel route. Like hitting an elbow jumper all-net or a flush 3 wood from the fairway.

Heard Lichtenberg is the kicker again this season and that he missed a couple kicks in the scrimmage.

That is pathetic.

Watch Michigan St this season. Their kicker committed to BC and then decommitted. He was a decent kicker after the first few games last season but he is a complete DB after he makes a FG. I recognize the position in play but it seems like we recruit tools in that role now. That was also a strength of BC for 15-20 years and has fallen off 100%.

Knucklehead - you made a comment about Father Charlie Callinan and I am not sure what you may have been implying(seemed negative). However , based upon what I saw last year , he had potential , but did not have the benefit of a QB throwing to him. Moreover, this year , he has bulked up to 240lbs and I am sure that this situation was another ADDAZIO brainstorm !!!! Bulk him up and make him a blocking Tight End. That is the STUPID Addazio mentality. Other schools have tight ends that are forces in the offense - that used to be the case in the heyday of BC football. But more to my point , the kid can catch and at last year's size (about 220 lbs) he had very good speed , maybe 4.6.But now , it is my humble opinion that Addazio has wasted a talent. But what's new - Addazio is a total stiff !!!!!Another comment - mod34b is not negative - he is very realistic when it comes to the coaching and recruiting talents of ADDAZIO. I will repeat myself. ADDAZIO IS A TOTAL OVERPAID STIFF !!!!!!!!!!

It is now two weeks until takeoff. The Dazzler has a base salary which is three times that of Brian Kelly. Not much can be said until Dublin. Daz has a second honeymoon. "Mod34b" is not far wrong and I believe what he believes but not much can be said until Towles throws it down the field at 6 ft 5.

if the OL holds, we are in biz

Kash86 said...

The OL comment is true, but to say that Addazio hasn't been able to recruit an OL based on essentially 2 recruiting classes is crazy.

Knucklehead said...

Yeah. Father Charlie. What are you insinuating? Some type of bigotry? Your name is Guido. Moron.

The problem with Daz is consistency. He brought in the florida guys as starting 5th years. The o-lineman was the anchor of that line emotionally and talent-wise. Then doesn't bring anyone in. Then he brings in a QB and a lineman this year. He thought they were going to be good last year. That is why people can say he sucks.

Guido said...

Knucklehead - why throw my name in your comments . If I responded to a situation or statement incorrectly or improperly - just say so !! And then clarify . I am trying to elevate my knowledge to your lofty standards. Obviously I misinterpreted one of your prior comments . So Sorry.

Guido said...

BTW - Knucklehead - Guido to you may be a racial name , but that it because you are a "True Knucklehead" and obviously are narrow minded. My best friend (obviously Italian ) - his grandfather's name was Guido and he happened to be the nicest man that I have ever met !!!!! To shitheads like you , Guido has racial overtones only. EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS - YOU DOPE !!! Are you a BC grad - MY GOD - I HOPE NOT !!!!

Knucklehead said...

Guido could be a bigoted name. Just like Father Callinan might be a dig at Catholicism. You never really know though.

Hhahah. You're pissed.

Guido said...

I am not pissed - just amazed at your ignorance !!! My reference was strictly about football and the abilities of a Boston College receiver. I thought that this board was about college athletics. Your reference to Father Callinan was way above my head. You were disparaging the abilities of a young man who has many talents that have not been utilized - that's all. You are ,once again , a very ignorant person . If you went to Boston College ( I doubt VERY MUCH), then you are a disgrace to a fine institution.

Knucklehead said...

Hhaaa. If there is one place on gods green earth where someone can call someone Father Callinan or Father anyone it is at Boston College.

You are pathetically sensitive.

Guido said...

Last comment - I had no problem with the use of the term - "Father". I was neither offended by the term nor did I understand why you used it . Maybe it was hilarious , but your humor was totally lost on me. If you knew me , you would certainly know that sensitivity is not a trait of mine at all - not with my "upbringing". but whatever , have a good day, although you may want to explain why I would be offended by the reference to Callinan as "Father". I truly do not understand at all. Maybe someone else could "enlighten me !!!

It's funny, that's all I can say, just like Fr. Guido Sarducci. It's a joke. I think u have to be an old time BC person to really appreciate it. I guess the downside to being an older alum is, I don't know how to use the sarcasm font, that could be useful for attempts at humor. I've never understood though why these exchanges have to turn into a can u top this insult contest. The world's ugly enough why add to that?
