Brown hype building

Praise for AJ Dillon is not new. We heard it all summer. Seeing BC in the Top 25 is not unexpected. A good start and the sleeper talk from voters allowed BC to move into the rankings quickly. What is surprising is this early speculation about Anthony Brown. The AP's own hype machine is touting Brown's start in relation to its All-America team! This is a guy who wouldn't have been included in a discussion of the ACC's best preseason QBs. Now he is getting featured by the organization that produces the most prominent All America team in College Football.

Obviously this is very early in the process and probably premature. Even if Brown remains the FBS passing leader, an older or more high profile QB will probably get the call. But for Brown to get this sort of praise this early in the season is a nice surprise. As long as he keeps putting up big numbers and BC keeps winning, the praise will grow. So let's keep it going.

If I remember correctly, ATL was very low on Brown going into this season. Didn’t he predict a 7-5 season due to question marks at QB? Half the people on here wanted to start Perry or McDonald over him! I said it in preseason and I’ll say it again, there is no one in this roster with even half the arm talent of Anthony Brown. We’re lucky that he’s doing this now, but we’re even luckier he’s only a sophomore. He will be an all ACC player by the time he’s done at BC

NYC, it's not wise to over-hype Brown or the team this early in the season. It may come back to bite you.

His accuracy has improved. Nobody questioned his flipping "arm talent." He had no pressure from stinking Wake Forest. Well see how he handles pressure both in terms of his knee and his accuracy.

There were a lot of question marks about his health and how quiet the team was being about it, along with his lack of participation in practice, NYCEagle. Everyone's doubts were justified, but he is silencing the critics thus far, and for that, we are all winners.

He will get good protection all year. BC allowed the 6th fewest sacks in the country last year. Our pass protection is better than our run blocking. He has the arm talent and has been very accurate. There were many posters on here who questioned his accuracy, but he was a freshman last year. What did you all expect?

@GeorgiaEagle is right. Let's not put the "cart before the horse". Let's play them one at a time.

Pointing out an area of concern is not the same as expectations.

I never said, not do I recall reading here that the expectation was that he would be accurate. The point was that he wasn't accurate.

Accuracy has nothing to do all with arm talent.

The middle LB had 15-20 tackles and Ray Smith was taking 2 douchebags each play which lead to Wyatt Ray getting 4 sacks. The problem is not the players the problem is their usage against teams that spread the field and play offense fast.

Like I said last week. Three DL and more nickle.

"Accuracy has nothing to do with arm talent" See Jeff George. Big arm, tight spirals. He threw a beautiful ball. He also had no idea where it was going. Drew Brees doesn't have a particularly strong arm, but he'll finish his career in Canton because of accuracy.

I agree 100% Knuckle...Smith has been taking double teams in the middle and holding his ground for the last couple years which also factored in to Z Allen having the year he did. It’s amazing teams don’t double team Allen and Wyatt Ray more but that’s their problem. Everyone does their job and the chances for success increase substantially, doesn’t matter who gets the credit. Another observation I had was outside contain. We seem to lose outside contain a lot, do you guys agree?

I want to see Brown perform in a couple more games, but I'm close to proclaiming him the best BC quarterback since Matt Ryan. Like Ryan, he can lead the team on quick scoring strikes. He throws the ball deep and puts the ball where only his receivers can make a play on the ball. And, unlike Ryan, he does not turn the ball over. I'm starting to get really excited about this offense and Brown at QB.

Having said all of that, I'm very nervous for Purdue. I think they are the best 0-3 team in the country and I never, never like playing teams with their backs against the wall. I think BC will prevail, but they better not take this team lightly. They have a freshman flanker that is going to be darn near impossible for BC to stop. Brown and Company will need to put up 40 again to win.

Both SI College Football and Ralph Russo of AP have us being upset this weekend. Very little respect for this BC squad currently

Knucklehead said...

No respect? Ranked 23 and 25 with wins over nobody, essentially. They are respected as hell.

Weather should be good Saturday. We should win.

Knucklehead said...

Foreseeing issues with officiating in this game. Big Ten does not want to lose to ACC and Purdue needs a win at home.

If the punts, kickoffs and xpoints are clean then we win. If not then we probably lose. Cannot overcome 14-21 gifted points every week.

NYCEagle said...

If BC’s roster was wearing a Florida uniform they’d have started the season top 15. So yes, I do think they’re not respected right now. Wake isn’t nobody either. That was a short week on the road against a middle tier conference opponent. They’re currently 49 in FPI even after the loss

BC has averaged 39.8 points over their last 10 games. And now I’m supposed to think that the absolute opposite of a stout defense in Purdue is going to be the one to stop that? Please

Eagleboston, I'm thinking back to the Tom O'Brien years when looking at this upcoming game. This is exactly the type of week where the players would fail Tom. That's why he said 9 or 10 wins is the best you're going to do at Boston College. A week like this one--there's really nothing he could do.

On the one hand I was thinking perhaps Clemson needs Boston College to be good with FSU struggling, such that ESPN would push for at least fair officiating. But then I saw that Purdue is playing Ohio State in a few weeks. With other Big Ten teams disappointing (looking at you, Wisconsin), you have to manufacture as much strength as possible in OSU's schedule. Getting a win here would be critical to validate Purdue, as close losses are still losses. That's doubly true given the unfortunate nonsense that Urban has had to endure over the last couple of months due to Earle Bruce's ridiculous ex-grandaughter-in-law, as described here:

https://247sports.com/Article/Ohio-State-football-Lynn-Bruce-mother-of-Zach-Smith-tells-her-side-of-story-120536920/

You never hear this part of the story, only the assaults on Urban. So with that plus Purdue needing to win for OSU's schedule strength, I think the game officials are going to have to come to play this Saturday. So long as the officials throw some clever holding and illegal use of hands penalties through the game, I think they'll come through.

NYC,You missed the point. Like Lichtenburg.

Its like you are sitting there with your head up your ass crying while typing. If BC were Florida they would be ranked 8 spots higher. . . What the fuck.

Knucklehead said...

Observer made a straight forward assertion. Years of therapy have paid off.

Cannot say the same for the Palo Alto crowd

NYCEagle said...

Do you disagree? Literally if you took our players and put them in Florida uniforms that team would get 10x more respect than our team currently does. I don’t think I missed any point at all. So many national prognosticators are chomping at the bit to assert that this BC football renaissance is a fluke. I do not believe that to be the case

Knucklehead said...

The Purdue game. We only lose to them if the kicking game gives up 10+ or the refs decide the Purdue needs a W. We are not losing them otherwise.

BC vs. Florida in the rankings. Yes I understand in a general sense in the preseason. It is very difficult to cry disrespect when you are ranked 23 and haven't beat anybody good.

He has looked very mediocre and pedestrian. Forget the Heisman. It's already out of reach.
