BC connection to the Stanley Cup and other links

When I don't have a rooting interest in a sporting event, I usually look for an obscure BC connection and then root that team. In the case of the Stanley Cup, the BC connection is pretty obvious -- the owner's son Charlie Jacobs is a BC grad. Since I am not aware of many BC fans and grads from Vancouver, I am guessing most casual fans will be rooting for the Bruins.

Former Eagle Dave Emma's star crossed NHL-career led him to financial management firm specializing in helping professional athletes.

Here is another good feature on former BC assistant and new Providence head coach Ed Cooley.

This is from earlier in the week, but in case you missed Donahue discussing his incoming recruits.

So the owner's son over Corey Schneider, Vancouver's backup goalie?

The Jacobs's may be good to BC, but they're the cheapest owners in all professional sports. They milked loyal Bruins fans for years, consistently reaping some of the biggest profits of any franchise in any sport despite rarely shelling out cash to put a quality product on the ice. I turned my back on the Bruins years ago because of the way they milked their fans, and won't root for the Bruins again until the Jacobs's are gone.

Charlie Jacob is a current principal of The bruins and will be the head honcho soon, I am sure.

But as the heir apparent to a billionaire, has Charlie done anything significant for BC? I could find nothing (surprising, given his big involvement in many Boston area charities) So maybe this connection is not a positive. Hope I am wrong and guy gives back to BC. What's the story there?

But If that BC connection is too iffy, you need not stretch As Bruins are, obviously, from Boston. Duh.....what more do you need when playing Vancouver ??? Plus they are big underdogs too and have not won it all since forever ago.

Let's go Bruins.

And another scumbag bites the dust:

From the Boston Globe - COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State says football coach Jim Tressel has resigned as the NCAA investigates the Buckeyes for possible rules violations.

The university announced the resignation Monday. Tressel says in a statement that he met with university officials and agreed that it is in Ohio State’s best interest that he resign.

The school says Luke Fickell, an assistant head coach under Tressel, will serve as interim head coach for the 2011-2012 season

Rivals ranked Kuechly, Ramsey and Fletcher as one of the best Defensive Trios in the country for this upcoming season.

So, now that The Vest is gone, is it time to "focus" a little more on Ohio? Combine his resignation with pending NCAA sanctions and there have to be some OSU commits that are having second thoughts.
