Lax comes oh so close again

For the third time in three years, the Women's Lacrosse team made it to the National Championship game. And for the third time they came up short, this year losing to Maryland 12-10. Despite the loss, the Senior Class leaves BC as the most accomplished in school history and can claim they put the program on the map. But where are things headed?

The history of NCAA Women's Lacrosse is relatively short. Maryland has been the premiere program, but they are in the heart of lacrosse country. The better model for BC might be Northwestern. They had a decade run when they came on the scene from a non-traditional lax school and won a series of National Championships. BC has yet to break through to win the big one, but there is no reason to think that they can not be perennial contenders.

The key will be next year. Acacia Walker-Weinstein has proven to be a great program builder. But now with her most talented players leaving, can she recruit and develop others? I think she can and as I have said before, I think like Jerry York, once she breaks through things will just take off from there.

Lacrosse loses ACC Championship to UNC

The Women's Lacrosse team is no longer undefeated. They're also not ACC Champs, as the team lost a tough game against North Carolina in the conference finals.

While not winning the ACC is disappointing, the main goal still exists -- an NCAA Championship. They've proven throughout the year that they are a championship caliber team. Now they just need to prove it.

Lax completes undefeated regular season

Congratulations to the Lacrosse team for completing an undefeated regular season. They did so in dramatics fashion (see tweet below) as Sam Apuzzo won the game with just 1.7 second left.

BC enters next week's ACC Tournament as the top seed. Let's keep it going.

Lax falls in Championship game to Maryland

A great run came up short as the Women's Lacrosse team lost to Maryland in the National Championship game. The first half was a great performance. BC fell behind early, then rallied to tie the game and stifled Maryland's offense. The second half was more of a struggle as the Terps would get a lead, BC would cut into it and then Maryland would build a lead again. In the end there wasn't enough time for another comeback.

While it is disappointing to come this far and not win, this game and run was a program builder. BC can now sell this success to more elite recruits. I think there are many Lax titles in the school's futures.

Lax headed to Championship game

It is so close, you can feel it. After beating Navy Friday, BC is now one win away from a National Championship in Lacrosse. The girls needed a second-half comeback to advance, but it doesn't matter how you win -- just as long as you win.

Next up is top-seeded Maryland. The teams faced each other mid-season and the Terps won. But this BC team is very hot and ready to take on anyone.

Women's Lax advance to Elite Eight

The BC Women got their first win over Syracuse Lacrosse at just the right time. The Eagles upset the Orange in the NCAA Tournament Sunday to advance to the Elite Eight.

Because of the upset, BC will now host its next tourney game against USC. Congrats to the team and keep it going to the next round.

Lacrosse's great season ended in the most disappointing fashion. Loyola University Maryland upset the Eagles 19-12.

Wisconsin offered current verbal Bryce Morais. Many other big programs will keep coming at him until Signing Day.

Baseball split their series with Hartford and are back at .500 for the season.

The ESPN crew don't think we are making a bowl this season.

Addazio surprising national recruitniks and other links

As Addazio piles up commitments, the national recruiting writers are starting to take notice. New coaches obviously have a natural momentum to their early classes, but I think Addazio deserves credit for what he's pulled in so far. None of this means these guys will be any good, but I think your player development starts from a better place when you get your first choices into the program.

AJ's tweet brought the following comments on BC's Facebook page to my attention. After BC posted an update on the new field, Gene and Spaz's critics took to Facebook to vent. The usual complaints about both guys, tailgating and the state of the program filled the discussion. But what stood out to me was one simple comment from Connor Wilson: "bring back lacrosse."  I don't share the BC Lax community's mission, but I respect their passion. Lacrosse is never coming back, but that doesn't mean BC shouldn't hear about it every day.

Women's Lax win in Crowther game and other links

Women's lacrosse beat Cal 16-6 Saturday in the first "Red Bandanna #19 Game." The goal was to honor Welles Crowther the former BC men's lacrosse player who lost his life on September 11, 2001. It was a nice win and hopefully the start of a nice tradition.

Baseball had a chance to upset No. 1 Florida State but couldn't hold the lead in the 9th.

Dan Koppen will be staying in New England a few more years.

The Football staff will be in Cincinnati this week to evaluate new recruits.

Although Reggie Jackson decided to keep his name in the NBA Draft, opinion is still mixed. This ESPN report weighs Jackson's lack of resume compared to other players in the draft and recent NBA success stories. Charlotte has two first round selections and their beat reporter calls Jackson "intriguing".

The women's lacrosse team was knocked out in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The baseball team beat Le Moyne 4-0 on Sunday.

Interest in BC target Brandon Arcidiacono is growing. He's added some offers from our usual competition.

BC has not offered a scholarship to Pennsylvania QB Matt Johns. He seems like a decent plan B for the position.

Weekend roundup

The bubble hasn't been kind to BC lately, but it came through for the women's lacrosse team. This will be the first NCAA Tournament for the program. They face lax powerhouse Northwestern this Saturday.

The softball team finished seventh in the conference and will face North Carolina in the ACC Tournament this weekend.

Wake Forest swept the baseball team this weekend.

Since there is a groundswell to bring back BC men's lacrosse, I tweeted this article earlier and wanted to repost it so more could see it. It confirms the biggest challenge facing Lax is Title IX. So for all you BC lax fans out there, just know that as long as BC has football we won't see sticks in the spring.
